Last Samurai-worth seeing?

I'll be seeing this movie again tomorrow, and hopefully at least 2 more times while its still in theaters.This really is a good movie, and while I am not a fan of Tom Cruise, he did an excelent job in this film.

Saw it after work today at the Snowy Annapolis Mall, it gets my vote for movie of the year.

Just came home from watching it. I thought it was just okay (maybe I've lived in Japan long enough, or I've seen one Kurosawa flick too many, but not once did I feel enlightened by anything the movie had to offer, or felt that the movie brought anything new to the table), but my Japanese ex-gf who I saw the film with was really moved by the acting and messages the movie had.

Seeing that the cast has its share of Japan celebrities and movie stars, displays many Bushido principles that outsiders have no clue about, and contains a lot of specific cultural/patriotic morals and messages, this is probably a movie that will receive higher praise from Japanese moviegoers than from another demographic.

Well, Its definately not as great as Kurasawa classics, but it still a great modern Hollywood film, and it had a great deal of respect for Japanese culture in it.

amazing film that does justice to japanese culture and doesn't dumb itself down. Better than Dances With Wolves, Last of the Mohicans, insert movie where "savages" win over a western hero, etc.

I loved it. I'm a huge Kurosawa fan, and Last Samurai was probably the best samurai movie since Ran.

I just saw it tonight. The snowstorm broke and was able to see it. The Movie Of The Year, bar none. The message of the movie was clear to me. Its a shame I don't know more about my culture(though I am Korean, still.). :(

It relates to now and in Feudal Japan. Honor has been lost, and we trust more with high tech gadgets, than with sheer willpower and skill.

Like I said ... BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR ... AND it squeaked in.

Add to the fact that I think Tom Cruise can't act out of a tissue paper bag ... He did a wonderful performance.

Going back to Last Samurai, it had quite a few moments, were tears come to my eyes, and its not something that happens all that often.

I really like Dances with Wolves, but this movie is better (I think anyway). I haven't seen Mohicans and Lahrence of Arabia or whatever....
