WHat games are on which platforms? Which will stay where they are, which will move and or go multi, and make guesses as to which platform certain series will go.

We're still starving for info on it but Outrun 2 is supposed to be based on Xbox hardware. *-neo

I wonder what system Sonic 3 will be on if it is made. I hope it is made.

That might actually get me to buy one of those things...

WSB is supposed to be Xbox this year so they can work on the engine and get it as good as possible with out having to worry about porting it. Next year it's supposed to go to all three.

I'm not a baseball game fan - I hardly like the sport most often.. but I like what they are doing with WSB2K3. They are taking advantage of the most powerfull system (IMO... I'm not getting into heated debate over this, if anyone wants to discuss that they can without me participateing) which is unheard of in a sports game... excpet first paty titles... and those seldom look better than the multi :/ I hear that WSB is turning up aces actually this year... what a reprive from the last 2 shitty years. Will it top High Heat (PC) in the gameplay Dept? Not unless they get a network up fast :)

I'm certian Outrun 2 will be Xbox. I personally wouldn't mind seeing Sonic stay on one colsole. Though he'd sell wherever he goes - Sega will get more bang for thier buck on GC. let Sonic Team focus on making NiGHTS and I'd love to see what they could do with Shining Force (I know it's Camelots baby, but I'd trust it to ST first if not Camelot).

Microsoft owns the rights to Shenmue 2. It's even being shown in the Microsoft booth rather than the Sega booth. As for those other games, deals were made with Microsoft for exclusives. Also, the developers might have a vision for those games which could only be achieved with the Box. They may be more focused on creating a masterpiece than making something just so every platform can run it. How many of these factors played a role. We probably won't know. But I do know that Sega said that 7 exclusives were comming to the system back in the day.

No, it would be a waste if those games had to be less than they could be just so people that only have inferior consoles could play them. I wish most of Sega's lineup was Xbox exclusive, just because it's the best piece of hardware going. Let's face it, if it was just about making the best games possible Xbox would get most games exclusively, with GC in second (I know that the machine has PLENTY of potential) and PS2 being dead in the water altogether.

And don't don't know if anybody mnetioned it, but TJ&E3 is also Xbox 'sclusive. :) EDIT: yep, it was mentioned. :o

I said that if it was just about making the best games (not PROFIT) then it would be best if Sega mad their games mostly Xbox exclusive - I'll stand by that statement, and it has nothing at all to do with the issue of whether or not I want Sega to stay in business or not (which, duh, obviously I do). But I will say this, if worse came to worse, I can see Microsoft bailing them out anyway...in some form.

I don't think anybody on here that has any sense is really going to strongly argue that the Xbox isn't the best hardware going - which was my central point, and exactly why I prefer Sega's games to mostly be exclusive on Microsoft's hardware.

How offensive for me to want the best games posssible from Sega. :rolleyes:

Panzer Dragoon Orta and Jet Set Radio Future would look absolutely tragic on anything other than Xbox. The very thought of it is both ugly and offensive. I'm glad they are exclusive to Xbox, it means they can spend more time getting the best results out of the best hardware rather than dumbing down for the weaker systems. Sega have always loved powerful hardware, good for them for choosing the system that best allows them to realise their game plans.

Sonic however is Sega's mascot, his games will sell like crazy regardless of platform. It would therefore make sense for Sonic Adventure 3 to come out for all 3 systems. It may seem like i'm contradicting myself here :) But seriously, a multi-format Sonic game would be a sensible decision financially whilst Panzer Dragoon Orta wouldn't be.

Some of you seem to be quite obtuse pertaining to this issue. Sure there a lot of Sega games on the X-Box, but that's only because of the huge resources that Microsoft has available. Also, you have to remember that the majority of these games were being developed before the launch of the X-Box. In terms of success, the PS2 is unquestionably the king of the consoles, with the GC coming in at a distant second. After this year, I'll almost guarantee that there will be far less Sega games on the X-Box compared to the PS2 and GC. It's just a bad business decision to develop games for a system that will ultimately lose the battle later on down the line. With the horrible Japanese and European launch of the system, the future of Microsoft's baby is dim at the most. The PS2 will be getting the majority of the Sega games, with the GC being second priority. Just watch, it'll happen.

OK, let me break it down from what I have heard from DEVELOPERS mouths.

GameCube is the easiest to develop for. If GameCube didn't have the image of a "kiddy" system, an had a larger installed user base, this would be the platform of choice.

XBOX is the second easiest to develop for, but its much harder than the GameCube. The difference is, when you put the effort in, this is the most capable peice of hardware, and games on this platform look stunning. There is also the Hard-drive and upcoming XBOX network to look foreward too.

PS2 is hella hard to develop for. If Sony's system didn't have the large user base, nobody would opt to develop for it. True, they have a hard-drive and network coming up, but if their installed userbase were not what it is, nobody would care. Developing for this system is a chore, but its worth it because the sales will almost definitely be better than the other two systems.

Ask Yuji Naka, he'll say its GameCube all the way. Yu Suzuki isn't a big fan of the PS2, and he'd tell you that in person. He'll probably get comfy with the XBOX because its the most capable of making his visions a reality. As for the other teams, most have already chosen their weapon of choice:

AM-2 - Currently multiplatform. PS2 gets VF4, XBOX gets Shenmue II and VF4, Gamecube gets Beach Spikers, 18 Wheeler and VFRPG.

Amusement Vision - Currently GameCube exclusive.

Hitmaker - Multi I believe, as I'm pretty sure Crazy Taxi 3 will go multi just like 1 did...

Overworks - Will probably go GameCube (Skies of Arcadia) and continue to focus on J-Phone content.

Sega Rosso - Your guess is as good as mine, but because they are going very arcade friendly I would assume their decision would have to do with which arcade hardware they choose.

Smilebit - Clearly 100% XBOX content from them. (Also GBA games...)

Sonic Team - Will be predominantly GameCube and GBA.

United Game Artists - PS2 exclusive as of yet (Rez, Space Channel 5 sequal) in addition to J-Phone content.

Visual Concepts - Will stay multiplatform, and why shouldn't they?

Wow Entertainment - Currently J-Phone, GBA Gamecube and XBOX. I'd assume they will develop for PS2 also, to complete the loop.

I think we'll be seeing lots of ports onto PS2, and lots of releases on the other two. I think SEGA will make their money on PS2 but I don't think they will release games first on it. Name all the games that Sega developed that dropped on PS2 first. Virtua FIghter 4 (But they would have rather released on another console). I think they'll support it, but begrudgingly.

There's a good reason for that. My earlier post was intended sarcasm to prove that point. The best platform should be chosen for each and every game (not just Sega's). No game should be ported, and none should be developed to the lowest common denominator. The GameCube clearly is where Sega feels Sonic belongs, thus, that is where he should stay.

It seems like some of you want Quanity over Quality, yelling that certain big titles should be multiplatform. Thats just a stupid idea if you ask me. Sure it will make the game more available, but it only hurts the game it self. If you want the best possible game you NEED to make it exclusive to one system. Its all about tapping into each of the systems aspects that the others just don't have, or are better at doing. And Sega seems to be relising that, I can guarantee that you will never see JSRF and Gunvalk on Cube or PS2 because they were made for the Xbox, and only the Xbox, it would only hurt the game to have to dumb it down in certain areas to get it onto another system. That would be the same if the game was made for Gamecube or PS2, that it if the tax the system so it can no longer be ported. The games are better if they are made so that its impossable to port, its just common sense.

Do the words "recent financial trouble" mean anything to you people? SEGA went mulit-platform for a reason. As long as the original game is maximized for whatever platform it's released on, why does it matter if another console gets a crappy port of it? "It won't be ture to the nature of the original!!!" So what? That's the kinda crap that got them in trouble in the first place.

SEGA needs the money. Ports are cheap and easy. This is elementary.

Well I just read that JSRF will be ported to PS2 at http://www.segaweb.com/news/1001/005.html I think this is a very poor idea by Sega. Because there is no way this game will look this good on PS2, and if it does expect monsterous Load times. Plus doesn't JSRF stream off the Hard Drive because the load times would be so bad if they had to stream it off the disc? I am betting this will be a poor port.

The only reason Crazy Taxi went to the other consoles was that deal Sega made with Acclaim. Hitmaker had nothing to do with it, as far as I know.

Seeing how they're probably my favorite team, they better stay with the X-Box. I wouldn't mind seeing Virtual On: Force on the GameCube or X-Box, but a PS2 port? Ung.

I actually kinda disagree with you here. As much as I prefer the other two consoles, VO is the sole game in existance (outside of Ape Escape and MGS) that could actually use the DualShock effectively. Think about the placement of the analog sticks, they're right next to each other, lined up, just like mini-Twin Sticks. Especially since VO4 is four-player, that would mean that to actually get a four-player split-screen VO4 going on, you won't have to buy four pair of Twin Sticks to offer good control. I rather think it's perfect in that regard.

Saint of Killers: It was more about keeping the hardware alive then keeping software alive (which were tied into each other) that drove Sega down. The amount of people who think Sega creates bad games are very few, and they will sell. They didn't before because of the system they were on, ports will help them financially, but I'd rather only have access to a handful of excellent games that work well with the specific controls then I would a lot of decent ones that are forced to conform to the lowest systems abilities. With them multiplatform, they'll sell on all fronts, and they don't have to use that money to keep the system alive, it goes right to making more games.

It seems to me that SEGA is spreading out their games really well so far. the only thing that has dissapointed me is the amount of ports, but I don't blame them much because they did make some great games that didn't sell well because they were on the DC.

I'm having a tough time getting excited about SEGA's upcoming stuff. I'm more excited about virtua fighter quest than anything, but that won't even be out this year. a new sonic gamecube game would be great, and i'm sure it'll happen, but not anytime soon. same with skies of arcadia 2. and im not that exited about a panzer shooter. I would have much prefered another saga game. im trusting that SEGA will suprise us with a few games that come out of nowhere, kinda like what rez or cosmic smash did. i guess the age old phrase "wait till e3" applies here as well. and Mr. SEGA, if you're listening-no closed booth this time!

Actually, I've heard this many times. Personally, I would hate to use those analog sticks to emulate the completely digital Twinsticks, much like I hate using the Dreamcast's analog stick for any fighting game. Using the four buttons in combination with the D-pad and shoulder buttons, on the other hand would, be a decent way to control Force. Either way, me and most of my friends would probably buy a "pair of" Twinsticks, no matter the price.

I would rather see it on X-Box because I feel that Microsoft would "treat it right", so to speak. Not only that, but I think that a port of Virtual On: Force to the PS2 would be worse than the fairly accurate VOOT DC port. As I said, I would end up with Twinsticks either way, as long as they would be released.

Finally, while I'm really not sure, Force would most likely have online play on the X-Box. In all honesty, I don't care about online play too much, but after I found out how VOOT is played by most people, I felt everyone would learn a thing or two from online play.

I also hate the analog for fighting games, but having my thumbs on the sticks emulating the same motions as the sticks would help me so much over the DC control it isn't even funny. Even the Saturns' mapping the different directions to the d-pad and buttons was more helpful to me, and it was sucky even then.

I honestly don't touch my copy of VOOT solely because there's no way to control them with the DC pad that suits me. I hate that, because I love VO with a burning passion, and my copy collects dust because every time I pull it out, I remember why I put it away in the first place.

i dont care if the XBox has a dim future, no major dev in Japan, etc.

Sega is spreading the butter pretty evenly, and the way they are applying that spread seems to be helping each platform in a specific way. hooray for Sega.

I thought I would note that the post about the ports to PS2 of those games is from october of last year, also evident by the fact that they're showing off 'crazy taxi' and 'VF4' which have obviously been out for a bit.

LOL, that is an old news item :) I agree, a PS2 JSRF would be absolutely horrendous, it cannot do the game. Imagine the slowdown on the fortified residential area. I am a huge PS2 fan, it is my favourite system but I have to condeed that having played the game through to completion that a port could not be done. Regarding the HDD, I think you're right. The sheer size of the areas requires it.

Capcommie~ Sega definately have the resources to make Sonic for all 3 systems. They won't let the series' sales stagnate on GCN when it could easily sell a million on PS2.

As for Hitmaker, I really want to know which system is getting Maze of Kings and VO4. Hopefully E3 will reveal this.

As an aside, I think Gamecube is getting the least of Sega's love. Super Monkey Ball 2 is nice but Beach Spikers never was a good coin-op and PSO 2 is also being developed for Xbox.

1. Mech Deus - it seriously makes that big a difference to you? I get along okay with the DC control - it's not perfect, and Cypher's kinda hamstrung by it, but the game's not unplayable by any means.

2. Who cares if Sega ports its games to multiple systems? Hardcore gamers are the only ones who'll care about the differences between versions, and they're clued in enough to get the one they want; your average console owner will just be happy they get to play a game they wouldn't have otherwise. I don't think Sega'll be putting out any games hacked up so badly it gives them a bad name. If the PS2 hard drive makes porting JSRF a reality, I'm all for the evangelism of that game, since I'm not sure its Xbox sales alone warrrant another sequel.

3. VOF should offer an option for digital or analogue control. They both sound alright to me, really. Analogue sticks can be set to only measure digital repsonse.

My take on the whole thing:

The DC pad is more than adequate to control VOOT. Anybody saying that you "need" twinsticks to be able to play the game is full of shit. People say that because its the "cool" thing to say. Having the twinsticks is nice, and clearly better, but when people say "I can't fully play/control the game with the DC pad" then they are talking out of their ass.

But congrats to Metal_Slug. I'd love to own a pair too, but the DC pad works great while I wait for my pair.

Xbox exclusives should be left alone because the other 2 systems cannot handle them. I'm no technical expert but I remember Smilebit stating that the PS2 would have a hard time doing JSR. JSRF is so damn huge and makes full use of the HDD. I doubt Sega will devote resources to ports full of loading, 20fps and a shit draw distance.

Sonic is Sega's mascot and almost guarentees awesome sales, niche titles that have been built around Xbox hardware don't. A multi-format Sonic Adventure 3 is therefore the way to go. I don't see how Xbox sales worldwide come into this.

Sorry Master but I am one of those who leaves his VOOT untouched due to lack of Twin Sticks. The control on the DC pad is horrendous and makes the game much harder than it should be. VO4 would work well using the dualshock2, better than the Xbox pad anyway.

I'm sory to jump to conclusions but you have no idea how many people say that the control is bad just to jump on the bandwagon. I feel you. I personally work around it and find that it actually makes advanced techniques like Watari Dashing, and simple techniques like Jump Cancelling much much easier. But thats me, and to each his own...

I first played Virtual On on the Saturn, with a Saturn pad, and did fairly ok. And when I purchased VOOT for DC, I was at a loss with the provided control schemes, non of them really made sense to me, and that seems to be the main reason why I have barely touched the game. I have used the Twin Sticks once in the arcade a long time ago, when I had no idea about the game. It just seems like the Twin Sticks are required. I am sure if I took a lot of time to learn the DC controls it would feel better, but all the provided options are odd to me, it makes no sense that I can't configure my own set up! Also, can you use the Twin Sticks with the American VOOT? Saturn or Import DC.

I'd like to see you pull off a Swallow's Tail with ease on the pad. Or, try to be a good Dordray or Raiden player with the pad.

I'm not talking out of my ass. The sticks are better than the pad. That's not to say the pad is trash, as I feel VOOT controls fine with the pad. I played with the pad for about a year. But for a lot of the more "advanced" techniques (Watari dashing is NOT advanced. It's pretty much a requirement, as is jump-cancelling. Turning should NOT be used to find your opponent), the sticks are simply better. I'd say that they're marginally better than using an arcade stick over the pad for most "normal" fighting games.

That's what I think.

Master and StriderKyo: Yes, the Twin Sticks make that big a difference to me. I loved VO in the arcades (despite how badly I did), and when I got VOOT, I tried to deal with the controls, I really did. But I always felt like I was never in control, and could never turn or move how I wanted to with the DC pad. I eventually just decided that the amount of control wrestling wasn't worth it, and just finally put it aside.

Maybe I'll give it a try again, after learning GunValk. But I really need Twin Sticks before I'll feel comfortable with it.

Ah, I love this comment. It's so true... more power = better games! Remember back in the day, when the SNES had better hardware than the Genesis? Didn't that get the best games possible, while the Genny was dead in the water? Yeah, what a crappy system that turned out to be. And remember the Jaguar? That killed those measly 16 and 32 bit systems with it's superior "64" bit games. Sure wish Sega hadn't wasted their efforts on that Saturn, that thing was so dead in the water.

Of course, now that the PS2 has run it's course, it's so useless... no one can make a good game on such ancient hardware. It's been out, like, forever, man. What a dinosaur.

I dunno...I make no claims at being a VO:OT master, but I've played both arcade (okay, only VO:OM) and DC, and there's only a few things that are really tougher to pull off, Cypher's flying being the main thing. And there are other more significant things, like jump cancelling, that I'd say are easier to do on DC. Hey, Dango said DC was better, so I'm not sure whose word to believe...

The PS2 is more than capable of handling games that are on the X-Box/GC with the exception of first person shooters. Sure, there might be some hiccups here and there, but it's not as if the game is gonna look a "generation" worse than the other versions. The most noticeable difference would be the aliasing, as we're all aware of the PS2's inability to handle those damned jaggies. But remember people, we're talking about Sega here. These kids can pull wine out of a system if need be; they're more than capable of creating games on all three systems equally impressive. Yes the PS2 version will be the "ugliest" of the three, but it wouldn't hurt the game to any great extent, which includes JSRF.

What an unfounded statement, the PS2 is worse all around. Ports that weren't made with it in mind in the first place wouldn't work very well IE rallisport challenge, JSRF, munch, etc. None of those are first person shooters BTW. The hard drive is the biggest difference. As opposed to performance, it changes the very design limitations. If you found an Xbox centric game that you could port with any semblance of it's prior self, the framerate would be hell.

JSRF _can not_ run at 30 FPS. It just can't and still be playable.

One of the flaws in the game is when you get all the people in your garage, the garage sometimes hits 30 FPS, which means you can no longer practice there. Kiss your carefully trained timing good-bye. The character controls like he's wading in mud the whole time.

Now play the garage like this, but also imagine terrible low rez textures and jagged polygons, and that's what playing it on a PS2 would be like. Of course, the PS2 could only handle the garage in the first place, at least without a hard drive to help out with the huge levels. I can't even imagine what the occasional stutters would be like on a less powerful console, which the PS2 factually is.

Bottom line. JSRF on PS2 would be unplayable. I hope Sega still has some pride left because a port would be a waste of resources. Though honestly I don't care if they port it or not because it doesn't take away from my experience.

I found VOOT to be incredibly playable on DC, largely because I used only Fei-Yen. My friends stuck with Cypher (noticeing that his Jet form was Inearly impossible to control - he actually switched to an Astropad (!!) and found it easier to control it), Raiden and ApharmdB (AphB is a tough son of a bitch in the right hands). We all got comfy with the DC Pad controls - I guess we're not good enough....

and Jump Canceling is easier then turning.

Xbox to PS2 ports, hmmmm not good. I guess we will see when Wreckless for PS2 comes out, I don't think the PS2 has the raw power to run that game, that also goes with JSRF, I think we will be seeing some ugly ports in the coming year. Hopefully, publishers/developers will see this and hold of the port maddness, I am really sick of the port disease that is going on right now! Bleh just about every week there is a port coming out, and it makes me sick.

As far as I'm concerned, Sega is one of the few companies doing it right. They have original content going to all major consoles, and they seems to be trying hard to make such releases take full advantage of the respective platforms. Once that is done, I couldn't care less where the "ports" go.

E.g., JSRF came out on Xbox and took advantage of the hardware, as most/all Jet Set fans have seen (and heard...and played). Now, there's rumor (fact?) of a PS2 port? Who cares!! I think it's just dandy that some PS2 owners will get to play it (albeit, in a probably inferior version), and Sega will make a few bucks.

The point? Sega's teams do not appear to be getting into the very BAD habit of creating projects for SIMULTANEUOS RELEASE, which is typically a recipe for mediocrity. Like I said, I think Sega is doing just fine by gamers, regardless of which console(s) they happen to own.

Well said....and remember, we're talking about Sega here. They won't compromise gameplay over graphics, so don't worry too much about the playability of the title. I mean, did you see VF4? Or, what about Gran Turismo? Or what about MGS2? Or what about DMC? Or what about ICO? Or what about Baldur's Gate? If any of you says that these are games are mediocre compared to other X-Box and GC games, you seriously have some vision and mental problems. Sure there are better looking games, but not by the margin that some of you think. The PS2 is capable of doing some great things, it's just a very shitty system. Long live GC!

No Ginjuro, I think you're the one that's never seen any Xbox games in action if you think so. MGS2 is the only game you listed that Would still qualify as having 'good' graphics if it were ported to xbox, and that would only be because right now it'd be a 2nd gen title.
Rallisport Challenge looks alot better than GT3, and runs at silky framerates, DoA3 looks ALOT better than VF4. DMC ICO and BG:DA are all pretty ugly to begin with. Crappy texture quality and unimpressive architecture in all 3. Heck the only cool lookin thing in BG:DA is the water rippling, which is pretty simple in actuality.

Well all the games you mentioned (minus VF4 and Baldurs Gate) were made for the PS2, not ports. As in they were made with the PS2 soley in mind. Much like JSRF was for the Xbox, so porting it DOWN to the PS2 means they have to alter things to dumb it down for the PS2. Xbox is more powerfull than the PS2, things would be differant if the game was coming from PS2 to Xbox,it might look better on Xbox even. Also, VF4 was hurt by the PS2, those jaggies just hurt like hell. Ico is one of the best looking games on the planet, but thats not do to the power of the PS2, thats due to art direction. When you have to bring things Down from a level to fit on a lower level, they will not look the same. PS2 does have lots of power, sure games made for the PS2 look great, but a game made strictly for the Xbox will look better.
