I'm finally upgrading my television (27" Sony Trinitron), and I've decided to go HD. I've got a couple of models in mind:
Sony 30" Widescreen HD TV
Sony 32" Flatscreen HD TV
Who else is running HD TVs and how happy are you with the support from ye olde console makers?

I have a Zenith 27 inch HDTV I bought back in January when I moved out here to Vegas. In retrospect, I kind of wish I'd waited and gotten a larger one, as 27 just feels too small.
Zenith has been a good brand for me and my family, despite reports I'd heard from various sources of their quality. Masaka, from what I know, you'll generally either want to go with a Sony (really nice screens, great performance, sometimes questionable reliability) or a Toshiba or Panasonic (still nice but not quite as nice as Sony screens, but better performance and reliability) for an HDTV.
If you plan on hooking up a DVD player to it or watching DVD movies, I HEARTILY recommend you pick one up that has 16X9 and Widescreeen support. Also, learn for my mistake and don't get one that's any less than 32 inches (though I suppose that 30 inch widescreen you're looking at ain't too bad.) That's about all the advice I can give :)
My sister has a 48" JVC widescreen HDTV, although the HD aspect of it isn't being used due to having plain-ass cable and the DVD player setup through S-Video...
i have a philips 27 inch HDTV...
i originally bought it refurbished for $500 (including shipping!), but it died soon after i got it.. Philips warranty rocks though, so they replaced it with a NEW hd of the same model..
i love it, except that you can't switch between progressive and component on the only input that supports progressive without getting in back and switching all the wires around, so sometimes it's a pain in my ass.

If you plan on playing games on the Sony 4:3 model, you should know that it compresses any HD signal into 16:9 mode. I.E. no full-screen progressive scan games :(. I was looking at that one too and that feature really turned me off. I ended up getting a standard analog WEGA that has the 16:9 compression mode for movies (which looks as good as HD IMO). Kind of the best of both worlds for me, since I didn't want to spend over $1000 on a TV, the majority of what I watch is on DirecTV which reportedly looks like complete crap on HD sets, and I didn't want to have to upscan all the non-HD stuff I watch.Quote:

Wait for the plasma screens to come down in price. Some new plasma tech was developed a little while ago that should drive prices down over the next year or two.

This isn't true. We have the 32" Sony HDTV at work and it displays progressive XBox signals just fine without doing the anamorphic squeeze.Quote:
