Jesus fucking Christ is that ever an abomination, which I'm not too shocked about, quite frankly. I saw the "preview" for this after Raw and lost all hope. 20 mins. of Funk-Flex and "only SpikeTV would throw a party to announce a party" and about 5 mins. of actual gaming stuff... Well, hopefully, they'll be as comedic as the video game awards that TBS or TNT aired about eight or so years ago. I'll tape this one when it gets replayed, my tape's going to SmackDown.

I don't think a licensed soundtrack should count... only original compositions. But that'd be the least of my complaints. GOTY is a barebones, interception-fest update to last years Madden?

How does Halo get the best PC game? Maybe if Microsoft didn't screw us and it came out over a year ago on the PC when it was supposed to. I heard it's a decent game but games like Max Payne 2 murder it.

True Crime's combat system is great, same goes for the driving and, to a lesser extent, the shooting stuff. Good to see it win something, although "action game of the year" is a bit much. WWE SmackDown: Here Comes the Pain wasn't even the best wrestling game this year, let alone fighting game.

There were good nominees, but the results don't give any indication of that.

I doubt 99% of the people who votec Splinter Cell for handheld of the year played it. That game didn't sell. People just voted for it because it has the name of an Xbox game they like.

SmackDown has fighting game elements in it, but not enough to be categorized as a fighting game. Much like how VF and Tekken have wrestling stuff in them, yet I wouldn't call them wrestling games.

I'm definetly watching this, just to see Tony Hawk's Underground win. I wonder if Hawk will accept the award, like he did at the BlockBuster Video award show. He skated in from out of nowhere, said some cool shit, then ollied out of there. It owned.

Check out the www.spiketv.com site's video game timeline. Sure, it's filled with a shit load of typos and some of the information is way off, but the visual presentation and 8bit music playing in the background really made me smile. Be sure to check out the song called "Timemachinego". Props to them for having so many Williams/Midway games on there.

They ain't paid to cover the "lesser known" titles. This is nothing more then a way of hyping software so publishers can get a bigger sum on their paychecks.

Good fucking lord. I'm still gonna watch the award show though, cause frankly there's not much else on thursday at 9pm.

This reminds me of the "TNL Top 50 Games of All Time" list that was compiled a while back... it was one of the worst lists Ive ever seen, much much worse than anything EGM/GamePro/NextGen/whoever put together.

If you watch the Blockbuster Awards, which has the public pick the best movies and tv shows and shit, they are just as ludicrous as this SpikeTV shit.

Madden's a great game. Knock it all you want, and think you're hardcore while doing it, but Madden's a great game. It's not a bad GOTY pick at all.

actually, with madden 2004 winning game of the year, you'd think EGM was behind the list.

Well, at least CoD won best FPS. It deserves it.

I like Madden, but it's definitely not GOTY. At least not for me. God forbid people like a game. :\

Because Madden 2004 was such a GIANT AMAZING EARTH SHATTERING leap from 2003, that it should be GOTY in every magazine and award show.

It's obvious why Madden 2004 is GOTY, because it's a football game, on a network "for men". I can name at least 10 other games which easily, easily surpass Madden 2004. in the last few months alone. I'm almost surprised DoA Volleyball didn't nab GOTY.

Good list. Nice to see DOAX, THUG, and True Crime on it. Three games I really enjoyed. I'm not going to argue Madden as GOTY since I haven't played it, but if you think about it from a sheer sales standpoint, what other choice could there be? To some people it probably was the only game they bought all year.

See though that's an opinion. My boss at EB was a gamer in every sense of the word, and he said that Madden was the game of the year a number of times. Why? Because it's his favorite game of the year. Simple as that.

So, if you think "that honor" belongs to KOTOR (like me), fine. If you think it belongs to Wario Ware, fine. If you think it belongs to Madden, fine.

I mean, really YOU dont think its GOTY caliber, but plenty of people do. End of story. Just because its a sports game doesn't disqualify it from anything.

I like a lot of the winners.

I have no prob saying Madden GOTY, but ... Enter The Matrix? I played that pile once and I hated every minute the only reason I continued to play was for the sheer lameassness of it all. SD: HCTP as Fightinggame of the year? My lord who chose the winners ... Helen Keller? My dog ... Pip copuld pick a better winner than a damn Wrestling Game ... HEY SPIKETV ... If any of you would put the time into Madden (or any time, for that matter) that you put into your silly Japanese RPGs or shooters, you would know that this game only marginally improves year after year because it's so fucking great that there's not much to change but minor tweaks and added bonus features. I would've given this to KOTOR, but as long as Madden keeps being so good, it can be GOTY every year if it wants.
