When I was a child, I said the Pledge, I said "In God we Trust," and I wasn't religious and didn't believe in God.
And guess what? Saying that line didn't oppress me. It didn't brainwash me into believing in a God. It didn't push me in the direction of a cult.

Oh2, I think "One Nation Under God" should be taken out because it was artifically added to what is otherwise a beautiful pledge, because it turns the pledge into a battleground, and because its a silly anachronism from a bygone era.

brainwashing: I wonder about this sort of word, but rote repetition of something throughout your youth that you don't understand and time isn't given to explain is close enough. Ever heard someone say something like: "This is one nation under god, isn't it?" Regarding religion in America? Why, how did that notion get into someone's head? Its almost like it was washed into their brain.
Whatever. People that are so adamant about defending the line shouldn't be bothered by people that really want it gone. They've both proven its importance to them by their manner and so its foolish to say one half is just taking it to seriously while they're being reasonable themselves. Those that are for it could just say: "Ah, I suppose it doesn't matter. Ok, drop the line." if they're so for appeasement instead of standing in front of a building reciting it for the media, and those that aren't could very well see it as not that big of a deal and go about their business.
I think its a silly line in particular because of how it came about. Next thing you know the government will put out a mandate that all bathroom paper towels must be extra soft since the rough brown paper angered workers and made them America hating bolsheviks~
