I have finished one of my finals projects for the semester, and I am just going to post it up for the hell of it...
If anyone else has any illustrator stuff, or final projects for school (pen, ink, ms paint...blood?) then please share :)
My Blues Poster:
the quality is horrible as a jpg, but oh well...
that's good stuff. I'm very intimidated by Illustrator. Outside fonts, logos, and flyers, I won't touch the thing.

this is a zip disk cover from spring '02 that was done in illustrator and quark, but it could have easily been done in illustrator alone. it's nothing big or impressive, but making the smilies alone was tons of fun.

the ugly blue blotches came from the shitter scanner i had at the time.

Illustrator intimidates me for ANYTHING outside of font work. I could learn it, hell, I even have access to a legit version of it at school two periods a day. It just scares me. :sweat:

BTW, how big is the actual poster? That contact number looks kind of small and important... you know?
I dig the zip ashen... mzo, I printed it out 8x10. It can be blown up to pretty much any size as it is vector, not bitmapped :)
Illustrator is really quite fun once you get into it. I was scared by it at first also, but you can really do so much with it :D
You should work on your typography, but the drawing/illustration is awesome.
Thanks Andrew, I tried toying with the type for a while... you are completely right though. I am taking a typography class next semester, and then I will touch up the poster with something more appropriate. But for now, the illustration is what I care about... so much work to tweak before it all goes in my portfolio!
Damn, I lost all my Illustrator files..actually, I might have it on my MAC formatted ZIP disk. I'll go to class and see if its on there..if so, I'll have to transfer all my work onto a PC formatted ZIP disk.
Just a suggestion but have you tried making the background all light or dark? The verticle spacing on the type is way too dramatic and the arch is very ugly. Not trying to discourage you or anything, but arches are never used by designers (well, not NEVER but very very very very very seldomly). Try fooling around with the typeface itself.
You have limited type but the typeface would probably be better. Serif is probably the way to go, but it's not as legible as it is now. TYpography is one of those things where when you get it, you get it. But until then you're in the dark.
The only thing I have ever done in illustrator. It is suppost to have a pop-art look, but the size of this image doesn't show it to well...
I too am very intimidated by Illustrator, but I have no formal training in graphics at all.
That's very good though... the type seems to be fine and the drawing is very pop-artish.
this is way better than anything I could ever do... what's up with the mic though?
Here's a piece I did about 2 years ago for a class... it's kind of a shitty image though... I don't have the original anymore (hard drive crash) so it's just a scan of the last printout I made.

Shakey, it was a mic I found on the net when I was looking for something simplistic. I may actually change it if I get the chance, but at the moment I am on the last of my finals and I also have a job... so unfortuantely, free time is few and far between.
Negitoro, that picture is really neat. Definately not as crappy as you may think. Looks like you put most of your time into the buildings... :D nicely done.

naturally, and I didn't mean to nit-pick... if it makes it any easier blues harp players typically use bullet mics and hold them in their hands right up against the harp, so usualyy all you really see of the mic is the cord coming out from between their fingers.Quote:

Oh, so all these fucking blues players are anti-microphone? They're microphonobic, that's what they are. They're so ashamed that they can't project as well and turn all red. I'm sick and tired of these blues players doing all this scatting business by themselves without a mic. Why don't they just use the mic? Can they not see their destiny is green without the way?

No, no, like in the Simpsons, when Homer and Marge are in bed thinking up ways to discipline Bart, and Homer has a notepad and his glasses on, and it looks like he's concentrating and listening to Marge... but then you see what he's been writing on the pad and it's a picture of a robot cooking a hot dog on a stick over a flaming barrel.
I always loved that.
But you want it drawn out in a more professional manner?

hmmm...i found my illustrator files on my mac zip disk, but I dont have illustrator installed on my computer, so i cant make a .jpg file. I'll see if i can "get" illustrator. i even got quark xpress files..damn its old.
Am I the only person who thinks arced text is absolutely fugly?
That's the only thing I really don't like about your piece.
I wouldn't go so far as to say absolutely fugly but people have mentioned it needs some work.
I think it shows some promise. Looks like there's some gaussian blur and other effects (like on the hair and shadows), which I think detracts from it. I'm just not a fan of them in Illustrator.
I haven't done a whole hell of a lot in Illustrator as far as complete pieces go so...it's the same one I've showed here before...sorry.
