Console VGA Solution

Hey there,

Could someone point me to a good VGA box/cable solution for my consoles? I currently have a VGA box that allows you to connect Xbox, PS2 and GameCube to it, but the quality of the visuals isn't all that great.

I am also considering the LCD Flat Panel monitors from Samsung that has S-Video input.

i highly recommend getting the vga adapters for both the xbox and gamecube. i have both, and they're amazing. dreamcast vga quality, even. there is a ps2 vga adapter, but it has problems, and there aren't many games that support progressive scan.

i don't think there are any all-in-one adapters that'll give you results anywhere near as good as those two adapters. as for the ps2, i sometimes hook it up to my xrgb2+, but it's really expensive and doesn't look as nice as a regular s-video connection.

I there anyway to play no progressive games on a VGA monitor? Not that I would, but just curious.

I'm playing one right now using a VGA box but I believe it is upscaning from s-video or even composite video.

the xrgb2+ can help with that. it upscans from non-progressive component (rgb) video, so it looks better than most/all other upscanning cables, but not as sharp as the 2 cables i mentioned. it's great for older systems, though.

anyway, most worthwhile gamecube games and 99.9% of xbox games support progressive scan, so it shouldn't be an issue with those systems..

Listen to the man. I have the Cube one above, ordered from the same shop. It is amazing. Just be ready to not see boot up screens (will be a problem with any true VGA solution since the boot up screen is 15 kHz). The visuals can't be beat though.

Yes, you'll be very happy with the picture quality you get from the Xbox and Gamecube adaptors! If you've seen the DC VGA box, be prepared for more of the same.

One thing, though. Are your Gamecube games PAL, or NTSC? PAL Gamecube games don't have progressive support, unfortunately.

BTW, I've still got a few Gamecube VGA cables left for sale if you need one :)

Has anyone tried this VGA box? It supports composite, S-Video, VGA and Component inputs -- with one VGA output.

I can vouch for quality on his work (as can tons of other people here and other places). Matt correct me if I'm wrong: He makes custom cables from actual Nintendo brand component cables. He made me a dual cable that works in both progressive (on my HDTV with VGA input) and RGB modes and I have to tell you that for all the slack GC gets as being less powerful -- it is a truly beautiful site in progressive scan. Just give a game like Viewtiful Joe a try in VGA and you will never go back.
