I really dug the music and the general ambience in CV2. I feel like the different gameplay elements introduced made it superior to the other NES CVs at the time, plus the multiple endings were neat.

I love CV2... it's a wonderful game... but it's not as great as CV3 was.
Castlevania 2 was good but like the other 8-bit Castlevanias, I never considered it an excellent game.
this was probably one of my first NES games. i remember that my dad just bought it out of the blue too. i don't think there was any reason for it, but i took it anyway. figured it was a cool game with vampires and a dude brandishing a whip, but once i played and it turned to night... i shut the system off. it freaked me out cuz i didn't know what was going on. scariest game for me at the time. it was a while before i touched it again, but that time i also had the code for eveything.
the only other game to make me shut the system off in fear was the demo for Silent Hill 1. once you got blocked in at the dead end and those babies came out... *shudders*
I don't think 8-bit get's much better than CV2 & 3. The non-linearity, story, graphics, gameplay and control are all A+ for the time IMO.Quote:

I only got to play CV2 two years ago and I hated it. None of the puzzle made sense, and I was lost for hours on end. A shame too, cuz I'm a big Castlevania fan and I was really looking forward to it.
I wonder if I would have enjoyed CV2 if I'd played it ten years ago.
Everyone should own a copy of this great classic, this was a time when companies were not afraid to try new things.
Mario 2 was different
Zelda 2 was different
Castlevania 2 was different
These 3 are some of my favorite games ever, and all because they took a chance and shook things up abit.
Yup. I friggin loved this game when it came out. Then I bought it about six months ago and oh man is it crusty. I honestly wonder how many of the people praising it have played it recently.Quote:

Yeah, my experience is somewhat similar. I don't think it's aged well, I couldn't really get into it. Same for Super CV4, actually. And yet Rondo of Blood blew me away. *shrugs*Quote:
