well, I'd be much happier if Hussein turned a new leaf and changed his ways, but that's not realistic thinking. Just dreaming.
I used to support the death penalty until a few years back. Now, I can't see the use. Then again, I can't see the ultimate use in keeping them from the death penalty either. Either way, when the man dies, he's got some explaining to do.
You know, if you believe in life after death and whatnot.
But in the here and now, i doesn't sit well with me to kill someone. Likewise, for all of Saddam's supporters to know that he's just a man, and can be contained and broken down to "only human" is more a message the world could give than making a matyr out of him.
Judging by the replies in this thread, I don't think any of you really understand what the ACLU actually does.
My point was that killing Hussein is continuing on the same dependance on hatred and death he held above his people for so long. The same thing that Hitler used to try and rule the world.Quote:

Letting him live kills his way of thinking and that's the true enemy. I don't mean to get all meaningful and whatnot here, but it's true.
I say we sentence him to life in prison on the Island of Elba..and if that can't hold him, we ship him to Saint Helena to rot away, slowly poisoning him while treating him like a king.
Pre-post note: I'm fairly indifferent to the question at hand.Allowing evil to fester does not destroy it. A caused death in and of itself is not nessecarily evil, you're placing an irrational train of thought on a grand scale next to a rational one on an incomparitively smaller level.Quote:

No it doesn't. Allowing one to live allows one to think as they will, he's not going to go all Tammy Faye Baker or anything.Quote:

Maybe you feel differently but people having so much bloodlust is bad (in my books). Let the past die. No good comes of revenge in the end. All killing one human could do is continue the notion of killing.
