I do realize that, and it's a shame. :( A total Charlie Foxtrot of a system that needs to be amended greatly. If an artist doesn't get enough sales, then they could end up owing the label. There are artists I like that do happen to be signed with RIAA labels, but I buy for the artist's sake.

As for MTV- the M has practically become a misnomer. You don't see enough videos there now.

I'm starting to look into some independent music though. One indie label I've checked out lately is TDI Music (label founded by the group Tangerine Dream). I've just preordered TD's DM4 which comes out in January.

I guess I'm one of the few who never bothers to notice and doesn't care what the "label" I'm buying is. The main reason I don't buy CDs is because they are too expensive in stores...but I will sample music online, and then buy cds at $10-15 online (that magic price range) if I like the stuff. Music retailers are a joke anyway...I'm finding less and less reason to buy much of anything beyond clothes and food in person anymore.

I went into my local CD chain to buy a CD from the early 90s that I know was $10 when it came out. The price tag was $17. This was after buying the Pirates of the Carribean 2 DVD set for $16. Needless to say, I didn't buy the CD, but I'm not about to pirate it either. I'll stick to the CDs I have and screw the music industry.

It's this knowledge that has led me to feel good about spending $152 on a couple shirts and stickers at a concert. At least I know the $49 of profit from each shirt goes to the band and not some no talent corporate bastard holding a contract.

But I also refuse to pay any amount of money for an mp3 of a song. Seems stupid to me to pay "full price" for music that has almost half the sound quality. It's a good thing 98% of computer speakers suck or people might start to hear how bad mp3s really sound. :p

Now if only they stopped flooding those messed up MP3s onto the P2Ps.......

Dude, Soulseek is so much better it's not even funny.

I've never even heard of Soulseek. Then again, I'm on Mac, so my choices can be limited. Poisoned works really well for me. Connects to FastTrack (kazaa), Gnutella, OpenFT and the gIFT project. Lots of results.

Granted, I don't often use it to download music. I make better use of it ^^

No, I don't download porn of any sort, just to clear that up. Typically I'll download anime I can't get in the States/wont pay 30 bucks per 2 episodes for.
