Big Fish

I'm not going to write a review because I'm lazy, but I would definitely recommend this movie.
I didn't know what to expect from this one, since I knew nothing about it going in, but I was surprised by the fact that it wasn't one of Burton's typical dark fairytales. It has a more serious, subdued tone, but there's still plenty of weirdness in the depiction of main character Edward Bloom's tall tales. The story is about Edward's life and how his son is trying to seperate fact from fiction so that he can get to know his father better. I won't say anymore about the plot.
I found the pacing a bit inconsistent, and I think the story would actually be pretty sappy if not for the imaginative way in which it was told, but overall, I thought it was a great film.

Anyone else see it?

i saw a preview of it the day before it came out a few weeks ago (small impressions in the movie of the year thread). simply marvelous. Big Fish just has the Burton touch where reality is like one big fantasy. from start to end, you're just caught up in the tall tales being told, not really sure if it's true or false. it was a bit slow during the middle of the movie, with Helena Bonham Carter, but other than that, just pure goodness. i thought the movie was pretty sappy though. not super sappy, but happy sappy. like you want to cry because it's a real joyous feeling, but also because it's a bit sad to see how things happened.

definitely worth seeing.

I'm a huge Burton fan, and I want to see this in the worst way. However there are no showings where I live. Is this going to get a wide release at any point in the near future?

i actually didn't know that this was a limited engagement at first. but the next openings are on christmas day, and then i think the nationwide release is Jan. 9th.

Saw it Friday.

I'm going to wait until I see it again for final judgement; but until then, this is possibly the best movie I've ever seen. Everything was perfect. The modern myth-like storytelling really caught me by surprise, but was very awesome to see. I've not seen anyone do that before now.

I was really impressed with this. I knew that I would like it becouse it was Tim Burton. But to my surprise it is now my favorite film he's done. I'm going to go and se it again later this week.

anyway, i saw this a few days ago and i agree it's a great film. it's very entertaining and very enjoyable. i don't know if it was just me, but did anyone else have this uneasy feeling while watching the movie? it's not a bad uneasy, but rather a good uneasy. still, it was uneasy nonetheless. it was like you were watching a ghost tell a story or something.

Saw it last night. A great, great film. The story was touching and uplifting, and the telling was very clever.

I can't say that. I know alot of people are, but it lacks the style that I've come to love burton for; That sort of macabre Dr. Suess thing he has going. His movies were my faves growing up, and this movie doesn't have the visual appeal, black streaks, or unforgettable soundtrack that I've come to expect from him. I cannot wait to see his Willy Wonka remake; I couldn't think of anyone more suited to it.

Still, Big Fish was a fine, fine, movie.
