new ps2 remote......

now you can reset and power off with the remote.....mother fuckers! so does this mean it only works with the 50001?

(5:11PM)- Sony Computer Entertainment America has shipped the new DVD remote for the latest model of Playstation 2 to retail shelves.


The remote, created specifically for the SCPH-50001 PS2 unit, adds to the existing feature set of the original remote by including the ability to power the unit On/Off at the press of a button. It also gives you the ability to Reset the system. At last, our couch potato wishes have been granted... It may be a few days until you start seeing this unit in stores, but look hard enough and you should be able to find one sooner rather than later. Should make a great Christmas gift. *Hint* * Hint*

Mine doesn't have power/reset buttons. I have to hit those with my "reaching broom."

Nah! If the remote was had a eject button on it and was able to swap games for us without having to get up..than you can call us lazy assholes.

Excellent, it's finally shipping! Just in time too, my old DVD player died last week and I was planning on going out and getting some component cables to make my system the new primary player and play the games in component with 5.1 sound.

Time to trade in my old remote and upgrade to this :D

Sony isn't going to sell the old remote anymore, and the only way consumers are gonna know that the current remote only works with the 5001 is to read the fine print on the back of the box.

And all you you retail workers know exactly how often people actually read the back of the box, right?





We all need to do our part to keep the public educated, and keep angry people from trying to return open remote controls.

I dont think its the buttons, I would have to think that the new remote doesnt come with the IR receiver. Without the IR receiver for the new remote, you cant use the remote on the old PS2. The new PS2 has built in receiver. I can use my old DVD remote on the new PS2 without the receiver.

Looks the same..just no IR receiver and has two more buttons on top (Eject button and reset button).

What SONY should do is put a small sticker or something to say that its ONLY compatible with so and so model.

Here is a link of it with a picture. The picture is a bit blurry but you can see the 2 new buttons on top (green and left to it)

Casual Gamer Joe doesn't know the model number of his PS2...

they should put the same "+" sticker on it that they put on the new PS2 system boxes
