So Everyone looked forward to Bonk's remake but not Master Higgins? I can see why given the Adventure Island games are of mixed quality. Anyway, picked this up and surprisingly I'm enjoying it more than Bonk. Hudson has done a great job balancing and enhancing these classic games. In Star Soldier, they took the score system of Star Soldier NES, added the enemies and feel of PCE Star Soldier, and new elements from Mars Matrix and Ikaruga. In Bonk, they made the game less cheap and perfected Bonk's controls.
The great thing about Adventure Island is it is basically New Adventure Island from the Turbografx, probably the best title in the series. The graphics look great for a budget title with nice shadows and decent scrolling. The character animation is nice too, one of my few complaints with Bonk. Sound is right on, and control is perfect. Bosses look great and have new attack patterns (the two I've fought anyway). One oddity, the screen will sometimes lag for a split second, like a very minor drop in frame rate. Still haven't figured out the secrets, there is some commericals and I think you can play as the girl Higgins is always trying to save. Great little game, better than any Sega Ages game I've played yet.
Anyway, Hudson still has volume 5 and 6 to go, I'm hoping for Lords of Thunder, Air Zonk, Hagane, or Dungeon Explorer, but I'm thinking Momo Tarou or Bomberman will show instead.
