The next Sakura Taisen game will be released March 18 in Japan. The official website has posted a movie as well as pics & bios for the new characters. This game doesn't look as import friendly as Sakura 1 Atsuki, but I'll take the plunge anyway and post impressions when the time comes.
Looks ok, but what makes this appear more import unfriendly than normal ST titles?
To me this new title looks no different than previous STs, as far as the content goes.
No battles in this one, which was the only part of the previous games you could play without a guide or a Japanese dictionary. Plus it's a mystery so you'll need to have an actual understanding of the dialogue rather than reading it for pure enjoyment sake.Quote:

I am a little apprehensive though with no battles and possibly no dating events either...last time I played a digital novel game based on a series I loved (Suikogaiden V.1 and 2) it was boring as hell, even when I understood enough to comprehend the story.
The dating sim portion of Sakura Taisen 1 PS2 featured a mugshot of Ogami in the lower left of the screen that changed depending on your response to the girls' questions. You could guess correct answers with surprising accuracy by matching his face with any girl's current mood. Sakura Taisen Mongatari Paris will not include this feature, despite that greater emphasis will be placed on dialogue choices because the battles are also cut out.Quote:

Considering that I keep seeing Limited Box sets of the PS2 version for $35 I do think about giving it a shot, but then again I really like these thirty five dollars.
Oh and I was only referring to characters and vocabulary in terms of 'the content'. The website made other gameplay differences pretty clear.

No, that would not be fun. There's a translation for ST1, but they changed some things in the remake so you no longer have translations for some of the questions so you could use that as a crutch. There's a LIPS guide for it now though so that's a bit moot.Quote:

If you're talking about this game, there is no U.S. release. If you mean ST 5 Ep. 0, then maybe, the most that's been said is that there is a worldwise release planned.Quote:

Hmm looks nice but not sure it's worth an extra $25 since I'll probably never use it.
Edit: Looks like NCS has it in stock and has some of the pre-order CD-ROMs too. I think I'm gonna have to cancel my VGD order and go with NCS this time.

Hmm I'm a little dissappointed that it's not quite the epic adventure I was hoping for, but hopefully it will at least be better fleshed out than the Ecole de Paris OAVS.
Sounds like ST4 all over again. A good budget game that they made me pay full price for. :(
Too many other games worth getting coming up. I'll pass on this for now.
I finished it this past weekend in less than 7 hours. There are 10 endings to collect: Erika, Glycine, Coquelicot, Lobelia, Hanabi, Mell, Ci, Miki, Elsa, and Bernadette. Each adds special art underneath the "privileges" option in the main menu. Other unlockables include Sakura 3 movies, screenshots collected during gameplay, BGM sampler, and a mini-adventure. Although it lacks the battles, there are a few more movies plus more new characters than in Sakura 4 and a decent story to make it seem fresh. Still, I'd recommend this only to die-hard Sakura Taisen fans, 8/10. If you import but aren't a fan, then 5/10. Anyone else probably would be wasting their money.

I thought we were getting the real ST5, and that it was being tailored for the US market; It's set in the US, and it's a prequel with no returning characters, so that it'll be accessible to US gamers with no prior knowledge of the series.Quote:

ST5 isn't a prequel, it's set after ST4, though there won't be any returning characters and it is set in New York, but Red have only said they would like to bring ST5 to the US. They said the same thing about the ST1 remake and that never happened.
I'm still interested in Mysterious Paris and will probably pick it up at some point, but right now there are too many games coming that are more full games than just side-stories that I want to get. I love the characters, but time and money encourage me to pass on it for now.
