Homies

For anyone not in the know, I am talking about the little plastic sterotypical "urban" black people that you can get out of the candy machines at stores. I can't really decided how I feel about the things. On on hand the concept of it is so mest up it's funny, on the other, I have to wonder why they don't piss people off as its borderline racist, if not full blown.

At first I was happy to see them, I thought to myself "ok, this marks it, the industry has exploited rap and the "urban" style to the point that little white kids can buy little sterotype people at the grocery store. Everyone is going to wake up to the fake materalism of it all and it will fall like glam rock did" But that hassen't happenned yet. They are on their third series now, and have got, what I am guessing, a series of sterotypical itallions(sp?).

I don't really know what to think myself, other than the fact that these things sale is really screwed up.

Yea, I remeber seeing these in a toys r us a while ago... with mexicans smoking and such. My favorite is this mexican homie in a wheelchair with a broken leg... while holding a brown sack. A close second is bobble head shinainai.

I thought it started out as little esé(how is that spelled?) figures, not black people. Little flacos and sleepys and the like. I had a friend that had a decent sized collection and thats what they all looked like. Its milking the audience of the "mi vida loca" and somesuch stickers I used to see in the little supermarket capsule machines.
