Recent Japanese Games

Odd that I can't seem to find many impressions of these games. If anyone has them, please tell me what you think.

Fullmetal Alchemist
Ashita no Joe (is this Hajime no ippo 2?)
Astro Boy GBA (by treasure - is this worth picking up)
Front Mission 4 (never played the series and doesn't look interesting, but I could try something new.)

Basically, I am just looking for a new game that is going to grab me and hold my attention all the way through. I pick up Viewtiful Joe Revival and that is about the most fun I've had with a game in a while. Nothing is clicking.

Anyhow, any info on the above games will be appreciated.

From everything I've read about the new Front Mission game, is it's for the most part Front Mission 3 with updated graphics and sound.

I'd suggest checking out the third game, which can be had for much cheaper to see if you like it. Not to mention FM3 is a great game itself.

Edit: I'm wrong, Full Metal Alchemist is out already. Move along, nothing to see here.

Ashita no Joe is not related to Hajime no Ippo. Both are based in different animation series and both are made by different people. The one by Treasure is said to be the best.

What are the differences between this and the regular version - I hear its just an added Super Easy and Super Hard mode or something - is that correct?

Yeah hmm. I've never played the original. For me, the difference was almost 3000yen. It came out with a new lowered price - other than that, I have heard the only differences are the difficulty settings. ..and new box art.

OMG Fanboys!!11!!

Astroboy is oldschool Treasure kicking ass and doling out the style of game they haven't attempted since Silhouette Mirage. It's tough (at least on the harder of the two difficulties), fast paced 2D action, with a crapload of bosses, and great level variety. Also a gorgeous looking game, and just very well made all around. It's sorta like a mix between Alien Soldier and Viewtiful Joe with Astroboy.

Treasure's Ippo game on GBA is indeed great, but the PS2 Victorious Boxers is likewise very, very good. The PS2 one is a realistic sim, and the GBA one is fast and stylish arcade boxing.

Treasure is a hit or miss developer. Thankfully Astroboy is on the hit side. It's in the style of the Genesis classics.
