If you play it a few times, you realize that you can dodge everything the same way every single time. Play it enough, you do it without dying. Easy.Quote:

A game I can one credit within a week is easy. Every death I died was kinda cheap, since it could only kill me until I found out what to do. Then I did it the next time I played. And I thought it was a great game! I really liked it. Welcome to our reality!Quote:

Shattered Soldier is neither hard nor easy, by the standard of a game like Hard Corps (which kills Alien Wars, by the way), or any other side-scrolling platform shooter.
It's a different animal, unlike the old school shooters, because Shattered Soldier is all memorization - it plays the same way every time.
Good shooters involve learning patterns - the ways the boss shoots, the relative speeds of bullet spreads. After that, you're on your own, and hopefully you've got the reflexes to make the right choices when the boss sends a pattern you're expecting your way.
Shattered Soldier involves memorizing the way the game plays out - all of the choices you have to make aren't that hard or reflex-intensive as long as you know what's coming. It's cool, but too Dragon's Lair/Ninja Gal for me.
Excellent point. Look at it this way:
I beat Hard Corps. Is Shattered Soldier harder than Hard Corps? No.
I beat Ghouls 'n Ghosts. Is Maximo harder than Ghouls 'n Ghosts? No.
So they're less than hard. Can we compromise and call them normal?
For us, maybe. I've seen a lot of people who never had any consoles prior to PS and/or PS2, and to them, Shattered Soldier and Maximo seem like the hardest thing in the world. Comparatively, they're not hard. But for someone who has nothing to compare it to, I guess they could be considered difficult.Quote:

Shattered soldiers was harder than hardcorps. You basically had to die to move an inch. You pass one scene after you memoize it, but you have to die to memorize the next. It's pretty shoddy game design IMO.
Hardcorps was easy as hell for me for some reason. All the other Contra games including Alien Wars was harder. Alien Wars is the best Contra game I'd say.
I loved Shattered Soldier so a new Contra is definately welcome.
