I think that is going to become a growing thread. Probably the only games that will support dial-up a year from now will be EA sports titles.Quote:

Soundtrack is decent too (which I was able to grab).
I think I will rent it next week to check out single player portion.
Think I'm gonna try swining by Best Buy today and see if I can nab it with the GGC, doesn't seem to be on sale anywhere :(
If you install it on the HHD, do you still need the disc to play, or is it like FFXI where you save the disc for a rainy day.
i'm almost positive you need the disc to play. the only reason you don't need the ffxi disc is because you can't get the hard drive without also buying the game.
This is your best bet, cause it's not on sale next week either.Quote:

It doesn't seem like important item locations (keys and weapons and such) are randomized, which I find really disappointing. (Mind you, I've only played offline twice and online once, but each time was identical.) Maybe PSO fans who like this kind of consitent braindead (excuse the pun) gameplay will really enjoy this too, but I do like a little variety when I go online.
Nonetheless, the game is still pretty fun, and, in fact, is even better when you have a team of assholes. When I played online, my teammates ran ahead and actually baricaded me out of the room with all of the weapons, so I had to run to another room and hide under the bed until the zombies broke through the barrier. It pissed the hell out of me, but certainly made things way more interesting. (And then we all died, anyways.)
This could interest some folks - http://www.digitalbackspin.com/compo/contest-reo.asp
Oh...thanks for the link. It would great to win, but I seriously doubt. You never know though...
I got this today but haven't played online yet. I did sign up under D8onaUSA.
Same here. No online play for me though :( :( :(
Will be playing it in a while.
ign? is already saying capcom is making a sequel.
yup it was ign

just saw bahns thread.....*grumble*
Damn, a sequeal already? With featuring the same people from the first game? That doesn't make any sense...what's the point of having the same exact cast? What are they going to do, all survive the wipeout of Racoon City, band together and take on Umbrella at their European Headquarters?? I can understand Kevin going after them (he's law enforcment like the older RE characters) and maybe Yoko due to her being connected to Umbrella, but the others are just regular folks (which I doubt anyone of them survived).
If you're going to make a sequeal/prequeal to this game, at least do something like have a totally different cast of characters in another part of the city (sans an Umbrella lab this time). They have something going on here to help RE with Outbreak being different in most aspects than other RE games, I don't want them to fuck it up with an s-load of sequeals/prequeals.
Is someone going to post some impressions? I've heard that the load times are very long without the HDD. Is this true?
Yes, That is true. It does load for quite a bit, between rooms, and cut scene events.
Controls are Analog this time, so dont expect usual RE like turn and move scheme. It confused me for a bit. I only had time to play around with two characters so far, Kevin and David. Both can get a gun at the beginning, and later on collect more ammo, and few hand weapons to help fight off the zombies. The cpu controlled characters can be very annoying, running around all the time, and since I am used more to the single character adventure settings of previous RE games, it annoys and confuses me. I need to learn how to interact and trade with them right, since they can grab and carry items that you might need. They havent been very helpfull when I get attacked, once in a while they would try to rescue you, but most of the time they run in and out of the rooms, spotting quotes.
Hand weapons are cool to use, but break too easily. Steel pipe is not the steel pipe we all come to love in Silent Hill. After few bumps to zombies heads, it becomes a mighty bent pipe
Since most of the characters are not skilled fighters and firearm users, their aiming and firing skills can pretty much suck. It makes fighting and shooting zombies more of the challenge than usual.
The game itself looks nice. Not as nice as Cube RE games, but very good for PS2 standards. Nice and gory opening CGI movie. As usual Capcom does well there.
Crows are pain in the ass, since its hard to aim right, especially with characters slow responses. I got pecked and clawed alot :(
One thing I hate is a friggin Timer event. I got pretty far in the scenario and then the even kicked in. My character at the time was very injured so he was moving with the snail speed. So by the time I was finally able to reach the 1st floor of the next building, the timer ran out. And bam. Game Over. For NO APPARENT REASON. I just died. Sucks.
After each game you collect points, that can be used to buy art in the gallery, CGI Movies, New Costumes and other things. Should be interesting to get these in the long run.
And I forgot to mention: There are no pause in the game. When you go into inventory/ map screen, the action doesnt stop. Reloading doesnt happen right away either, so you are open to enemy attacks, if you try to do that with monsters nearby.
Nice impressions, Despair. I am going to try to beginning-to-end the single player mode tonight, so I will follow-up with my impressions tomorrow.
I really like the beta, which consisted of the first 2 scenarios, so I can't wait to pick up the retail version. Probably on Friday when I get paid, unless I can't resist the lure of Wario Ware.
Great impressions, Despair. It sounds like typical RE fun but with some spice to keep things fresh. Are the scenarios long? I wouldn't mind if they weren't as there seems to be a lot of them and the HDD could be used for DL content.
CAPCOM: LISTEN TO ME!
HDD + BB connection = easy DL content! :)
Ok, Spent more time with it tonight, and finished Outbreak scenario. Got used to the way it controls, even though Analog and slow turning with it still bugs me. You can also use Dpad for the usual RE control, so at least that is familiar.
You use Right analog stick to give other characters different set of commands, but I usually leave most of them behind, or they ran off by themselves.
Action bits are more akward than in other RE. It somewhat hard to aim right, and characters react much slower, than some of the zombies, which can unexpectedly rush and punch you. And if they trap you near the wall, or the corner, and you happen to be turned the other way, good luck getting out alive. Happened to me, almost at the end of first scenario, where they almost killed me, just because the dumbass Kevin didnt want to turn right.
None of the other characters made it to the end with me, and when I triggered the final event, i was barely alive. Limping between horde of zombies, in mad rush to reach the detonator controls, before the zombies grab me. I barely made it too. One more bite would have killed me :)
Got more points after finishing, and bought 2 cgi movies from the collection. I guess you will have to play alot of Outbreak, to be able to get all the collectibles.
You can find couple of typewriters along the way, and this time around you dont need ribbons to be able to save. But catch is, you can only save once, and the game takes you out to the main menu, and that save is deleted after you loan the game later on. I dont like this much :(
I was told of this and it sounded stupid.Quote:

outbreak 2 confirmed for US release and screens.
"it has been confirmed that at least one of them will take place in a deserted zoo where the animals have been infected by the T-Virus. Elephants, tigers, and other such mighty beasts are just a few of the critters that players will be exposed to"
if its a deserted zoo why are there animals in it!?
I'm gonna play in like 5-10 minutes. Anyone with me?
UPDATE:
I tried to get online 3 times last night, and I failed each time.
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/board/a...achmentid=4392
That sucks. If I had NA, I would have definatelly tried the online play.
I got a chance to try offline for the first time today. I finished the first scenario with Mark (Black security guard). I think this is a nice twist on the series. I am glad it is a "gaiden" and not RE4, because it is definitely different, but I like it. Do yourself a favor and pick a character that starts out with a gun the first couple times you play. Those would be Kevin and Mark. It makes getting the hang of everything much easier.
The single biggest difference I see between REO and the main series is that it is not possible to clear out areas. Zombies will disappear if you kill them, but more will spawn soon enough. It works well with the plotline of escape. Remember, these are not STARS members, who are trained to be combatants. They are just civilians caught in the middle.
My biggest complaint is that there are multiple servers online, and there is currently no way to pick which one you go to. If you and a buddy end up on diferent servers, you are SOL until someone tries to log back in and gets lucky. Supposedly, there will be a fix for this coming soon. The volume of players was highr than expected, so they weren't ready.
Yeah, I agree. I dont like being rushed through the areas, barely having time to explore around and pick up things. It makes it even harder with respawning zombies, and slow reacting characters. Even Kevin who is the closest thing to STARS is too friggin slow.

Not being a big fan of Resident Evil, would you guys say this game would be good for the online play?
It sounds like it is quite different from RE anyway, so maybe I'd like it.
Get out of our thread, pinko! :pQuote:

I really want to play this, but from what I'm hearing, I'm not going to touch it until I get the HDD, and lord only knows when that will be.
yup.
I think that one is caused by a system check:Quote:

Played more RE Outbreak. Man, do the cpu controlled characters annoying or what. If that god damn doctor says "I Just Had A THOUGHT !" one more time, I swear I will feed him to the zombies. I had doctor and Alyssa chick run around poor Kevin, spouting their lines sometimes in great combinations endlessly:
Doctor: I Just Had A THought !
Alyssa: No Shit !
Doctor: Oh God
Alyssa: No Shit !
Random Zombie: Ooooo !!!
Alyssa: Get Away From Me !
Doctor: I Just Had A Thought !
Doctor: Oh God !
Man, Great voice acting and repeated ad nauseum lines make for great experience !
Knife became my weapon of choice, while facing zombies. Few slices to the head and they go down, and most of the time, one slice makes them stop whatever they do, and just stand there, so you can do few more quick cuts and down they go. The annoying part is the collision detection of the knife sucks, and in the tight quarters you will end up contantly hitting the walls and surroundings instead of the target zombie.
I DONT like RESPAWNING zombies. I would understand it in the streets of the city, but within the complex, in the SAME friggin rooms, it ridiculous and stupid.
Anyway, got halfway through 2nd scenario, but then friggin T-virus finished me off. And thanks to the sucky save feature, I am back to the start.
I'm returning this today.

I just played a European Xbox game called Obscure. It's not terribly unlike Resident Evil Outbreak, and it lets you play 2 player on the same system (ie, not on XBL).
RE Outbreak would've been better if you could play it multiplayer without connecting to the internet. System Link woulda been nice.
Originally there was talk of 4 player split screen, but that was cut. I really wanted it for that alone, so when it was cut, so were my plans to buy it.
I refunded it ^_^
Seriously, as an Online game it would have been good fun. But the one player mode is just crap, my impressions somewhat parallel Despair's.
The controls are just plain frustrating after being so accustomed to tank controls in RE. I spent all this time making awesome neural connections to prevent zombie bites, connections I could've used for useful things like dancing or layups, and now they change everything back to normal. MY CEREBELLUM SAYS FUCK YOU CAPCOM.
Also, I play RE games a certain way; I'm really cautious, I conserve my ammo and herbs, and I take things slow and steady. Now, I don't think the rushing is necessarily bad for the game, since it gives it a certain amount of atmosphere and urgency you'd expect running from a horde of respawning Zombies; In fact, I imagine that Online it would have been a lot of fun. But... when your companions are bunch of useless herb eating/ammo wasting AI arseholes... things aren't as fun.
Upon scrapping European play, they should've either beefed up the ally AI a lot, or had a Secret of Mana-esque action grid to give you some control over them. The only time they helped, was when I missed the jump across the rooftop, and even then, they took their sweetarsed time to respond to my cries for help.
