i'm excited about it, of course. i'm a big pitch black and vin diesel fan so i've been waiting for this one for a while. i just hope they don't try to do too much. the teaser trailer looks promising.

Anyway, I think Vin's pretty cool, and Pitch Black was an awesome, unique movie (well, visually, anyway). I doubt it was originally intended to make a sequel- I think no one expected the movie to be as big as it was or for Vin to become so popular. Still, Riddick was a cool character. I hope this movie turns out good.

i don't think they intended to make a sequel but it was still a thought it their minds. the original script for pitch black had riddick killed off at the end instead of the girl. they changed it just in case they decided to do a sequel since they figure riddick had more "sequel power."Quote:

Interesting, though vague. You'd think they'd play up the fact that Vin was the star, or perhaps show footage of Pitch Black to tie it in so the audience would know this was a sequel. Some weird imagery, what with all the funky statues everywhere. Could be good...
I'm a fan of Vin Diesel, and I loved Pitch Black, so it pains me to say this, but this movie looks like complete and total ass.
We're talking competition for Battlefield Earth here.
I dunno, something about the atrocious writing, the cliched premise (a "collective" that destroys planets in its wake -- hello, Borg?), the sloppy editing of the trailer, gave me a really bad vibe.
Give it a chance guys. I think the Chronicles of a dark a demented guy is pretty cool, considering that in Pitch Black a demented psycho actually helped them. Kind of makes you question what people thought of him.
As for the unrealistic stuff, I don't know. I mean, it's a sci-fi thriller all the way, so you have to expect some over-the-top crap. It's actually possible in a futuristic setting. I'm not an advocate of this movie, but something set in the future shouldn't be ridiculed because it's supposed to be "too unrealistic" is jumping the gun. All of it could be explained well in the universe its cast in.
I'm going to wait and see before I jump the gun. It will probably suck though.

Half of me gets this feeling that the movie is gonna end up sucking eggs (but not Battlefield Earth size eggs, man that movie was terrible! all those stupid angled shots...). Pitch Black is being re-released as a director's cut to coincide with the theatrical release.
There's also an animated Riddick feature called Dark Fury that's done by Peter Chung of Aeon Flux.
They're really pushing this character.
I watched Final trailer last night, and it thought it looks pretty good. Quite a difference from dark and lower budgeted Pitch Black, but some of the scenery and action sequences looked exciting enough.
saw the trailer while eating lunch yesteray. just sat there there whole time like "what the fuck IS this?" and then i saw vin. talk about taking a franchise in a totally new direction.
I saw a brand new trailer for this movie in theatres when I went to watch Van Helsing and it actually looks pretty good. The ENTIRE movie looks like it has been thought out and there is a lot more going on than just Riddick.

wait the movie picked up where the game left off? i thought the game was a prequel to even pitch black (i dont know i havnt played it yet). or is just part of the game a prequel?
Here's the deal, Riddick is on the "Snowy Planet" at the the begining of the game (after Pitch Black). After a slick (that's for you, andrew :) ) fight scene with some kind of indiginous, viscious beastie, Riddick is visited by a "mysterious voice (whom we find out to be the elemental chick in the movie, through no direct means, but it can be assumed from her voice and insights)." This voice tells him to think back to Butcher Bay and all the fun he had there, which he does, and then the game begins (before Pitch Black).
After the closing credits, we again see Riddick on the "Snowy Planet" as he finishes up the conversation with the "mysterious voice," and we learn some truly revealing things about the man (after Pitch Black).
The movie then begins (after a short explanation of the Necromongers) with Riddick being chased by bounty hunters across the snow drifts and icey peaks of this obviously remote planet, the "Snowy Planet."
It is all rather seamless, and incredibly impressive. I'm a stickler for continuity, and this series, even with the game, nailed it all flawlessly.
I am becoming quite the Vin Deisel fan, and I really used to hate the bastard. Go figure. :p
The animated prequel Dark Fury comes to dvd next Tuesday, and it will tell the story of Riddick beginning, and why he was sent to Butchers Bay. Its done by the guy who did Aeon Flux.
There is no "S" in Butcher Bay. :p
I'm really excited about the animated feature, but after the HORRID Van Helsing piece of shit, I must admit I am a bit warry. I will purchase it, but I hope to God it's a decent flick that I enjoy watching.
There really is a lot about Riddick that we don't know. This series could go all over the place with his origin, etc. It also helps greatly that I love the universe in which he exists.

To be fair, Fox shit on the show scheduling wise. There were several episodes shown out of order, hell, the pilot was the last thing to ever air. I didn't really dig it until I watched it on DVD in order. If you listen to some of the commentaries Joss & co. go on and on about how much FOX just didn't get the idea behind the show.Quote:

I caught Chronicles today and really enjoyed it. Pitch Black is still a better flick but this one was fun to watch.
I liked this movie. There were some logic and plot problems, but I found it more enjoyable than Van Helsing or the last two Matrix movies ;)
The middle of the movie broke up the flow a bit (in a bad way), and I wish they had made it R instead of PG-13, but for it was, it was a fun movie.
As everyone else says, Pitch Black was better, and presented Riddick as a more compelling character, instead of the superhero-esque Riddick of CoR. However, I'm much more interested in what happens to Riddick after this film than after PB, for whatever that's worth. -and now I really want to play the game, damn my budget.
Play the game, man. Not just for Riddick, but because it's the best damn game available for the XBOX.
Just got back from seeing it. No time for full impressions before work, but I enjoyed it. It was a fun little action flick... it wasn't a great film, but the fights were good, and the special effects were cool. Well worth my time.

was anyone else bothered by all the strobe lights used in the first half hour? It was hard to look at the screen and it made me queasy. The naming scheme they used was retarded too, take the first few sylables of a descriptive adjective and then add the last sylable to make it appropriate. We get it, the necromongers are half dead, furions are furious, and crematoria is like a crematrium.
Overall a good movie stuck with a few shitty movie cliches.

Dont have time to talk about, but I thought movie was great. Some cool action, nice fx, Riddick still a bad ass. Loved the mercs and Prison planet the most, but Necro stuff was cool as well.
Loved "Death by Teacup" !!!!
Sure it had its share of one liners, some bad dialog and the conspiracy subplot wasnt really necessary, but it still was good.
One of the better movies this summer so far, granted I havent seen Troy, but it was WAY better than Van Helsing.

Usually when you use a loose term in describing something you can atleast give specific portions in the scene that made you feel that way. I just hate it when people describe scenes in one word. It made 24.5 million this weeked, which is somewhat dissapointing, because of moderately high budget it had. I do wish it will make more, since it ended on interesting note, and I do want to find out how Twohy will resolve the situation. What do you think?

Well, Maybe they will do animated sequel(like they do with Dark Fury) since its would be a cheaper route to go, if live action film wont bring in enough revenue.

Yeah, so I just came back from seeing it, and I thought it was merely okay. It wasn't bad, but it never really did anything amazing either. I never saw Pitch Black, so I didn't have a frame of reference, so I can only judge the movie for what it is. I wish Vin Diesel would've kept his mouth shut throughout the movie. His acting abilities leave a lot to be desired. The stuff on the fire planet was pretty cool, even though it was rediculous. The one thing I really didn't like was the main bad guy. He never really struck me as being something to be feared. They should've gotten some one else to play that role, or made his costume look more menacing.
Not bad. Heavy Dune vibe, but that's not a bad thing. Bit predictable, but an enjoyable sci-fi movie.
Saw the movie yesterday, I really enjoyed it, I thought it was better than PB.
I hope it does well enough to get the other two movies made, as there's so much more they could do with the story and world ... I know it'll blow up with DVD sales, so that'll probably help.

Rather than collect the art (murder is, after all, but a moment in time) she collects the artists. Riddick of course objects, and is the star of quite a few brutal action scenes on his way to escaping.
The cruiser itself is interesting; one long corridor the characters walk through for example houses fugitives on one side, and mercs on the other; both in a cryo sleep. In an attempt to capture the escaped Riddick, a bounty hunter of particular note is released from his cryo chamber. We also see the start of the transformation Jack has undergone at the beginning of Chronicles, and the point at which her and Riddick's paths separate for the five year long period.
The dialog is fine, with cool one-liners that would have fit well in either of the films, and all of it is adeptly conveyed. Vin Diesel and Keith David both return, as does the voice of Jack, slightly less successfully. Fans of Gargoyles should already know David does voice well, and Diesel’s low growl lends his character an appropriate cool.
Animation-wise the short film was inconsistent. It is more stylized than realistic, which is fine, but sometimes that would be taken too far, with oddly proportioned characters in a good number of scenes. The action is nicely storyboarded however, and smoothly executed. It is good to see so much blood flow freely too, after the sanitized feeling of Chronicle's PG-13.
In short, if you've seen the movies, played the game, and like animation, I don't see why you wouldn't enjoy this. Worth the 10 bucks.
Thanks for great impressions of the Dark Fury. I really want to see it, even though I am not a big fan of Aeon Flux style of animation that Peter Chung used in DF as well.
Cool to see that all of the actors return to portrait there characters, especially Diesel and David. Plus being R and not watered down PG13 always helps the action scenes.
I checked my VH this week but sadly they didnt had it, but I hope they might get it next week, or I will check out BB next.

Ok...I'm ashamed to say I liked it. I just wish they would dub over Vin Diesel's voice. Shitty lines I can deal with but when they have a shitty ape voice to back them up....urrrgh.
Funny MVS should mention the Dune vibe because that's what I picked up too. Worst of all I also smelled some Conan in this. Come to think of it, this movie feels like Universal is trying to recreate some of that 80's Conan magic. Vin Diesel is no Arnold though.
I can't believe they made all of this out of a subpar sci-fi flick that rotted in the USA network's rotation hell for years.
You know nothing. Pitch Black was enjoyable little sci/fi horror film. Better than most of the shit they release nowdays anyway.
Sorry, but I thought this movie was terrible.
I liked it too, the special effects were good,the action was there, Riddick was a bad-ass and had some good scenes, and by the end I also got the whole Conan feel from it....which isnt a bad thing.I'm kind of hoping they actually do a sequel to it, but I'm not sure where the story line would go the way it left off, Riddick being stuck in his position and all.Quote:

I thought Pitch Black was very cool. Haven't seen CoR yet but I'll rent it when I get the chance.
