Best fighting game for the Xbox?

First, know the audience. The purpouse of my game purchasing is to entertain with company. The company being construction workers, the people that built your house.

So far I have bought:

1. Halo
2. Fusion Frenzy
3. Project Gotham Racing 2

These have been a hit except for Halo. My friends mostly like to drive, so we played Gotham Racing most of the weekend after I helped my friend get his new piranhas into his tank. Our fingers didn't get bitten off, so we had a good time playing.

All I need to be a hit at our parties is a good fighting game. I should get one before or just at the start of Feburary as this is when crawdad seasons starts and I plan to bring the Xbox to the fourth annual crawdad eat. I mention the purchasing date as this could have an effect on the answer if a new game is coming out in Feburary. In other words, perhaps I should wait to buy a fighting game until a certain date, which hopefully will be no later than the middle of Februrary.

Any suggestions?

Well considering how your friends like simpler games, DOA3 is probably the best bet, or maybe Kung fu Kaos(but I have yet to touch that game).

It's got a 4 player tag team mode which is great when your playing with a group of people since it means less people having to wait to play.

If he is playing with Construction Workers (this sounds like a Gay Bar joke) the chicks in DOA3 will get a rise out of them.

Sounds like they'd also like Burnout 2, though that of course isn't a fighting game.

Basically it's contray to opinion and depending on whether you prefer 2D action over 3D. If it's the latter, you should definitely go with Soul Calibur 2 or Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. Capcom vs. SNK 2 is perfect for those still craving the Street Fighter/KOF style of gameplay. (Just keep in mind that roll cancelling has been removed from the engine.)

My friends work both in the office and on the lots. They are not strictly lot rats these days. The girl on my bowling league (hot) owns a really nice house (huge actually).

Construction can pay. Don't believe the stereotypes. My friend who I played video games with this weekend spends more time faxing these days than he does inspecting houses.

We are blue collar, yes, but we are as likely to watch a doccumentary on the making of the Hoover Dam or one about black holes and Hawking radiation as we are to watch Heavy Metal videos. We are different.

Good input. Excellent. I definately prefer 3d and as realistic as possible. No magical powers and especially no powers that allow a player to strike from a distance. If I want that, I dig out Halo.

Holds are okay, but I prefer realism. My friends and I have had martial arts training and my friend has been to security guard school. We know what is real and fakness just kills it for us.

If you're going for realism, get DOA3. Soul Calibur would be my second choice, but Spawn has a few "magical powers," as you called them, and a lot of people play a distance game. DOA3 is all in your face fighting with nothing but fists.

Do fifty-foot falls and continual breaking of limbs which have no lingering effects bother you? If not get DOA3; if so you don't have much choice beyond SC2 (which still has the latter).

There really aren't a whole lot of good Xbox fighters, they've all been listed here.

DOA3, MK: DA, Soul Calibur 2, and CvS2. That's pretty much it.

But...you want to know what the ultimate party game is? Mod that box and play some 4 player Simpsons or TMNT arcade... fun fun shit, it never gets old, and everyone loves to play it.

DoA3 and Soul Calibur..thats it.

For the record, CVS2 has the worst netcode of all time. I felt like I was playing Doom over Battle.net.

Nods to CvS2 and Soul Calibur--but seriously, Dead or Alive is pretty bad (reversals are ridiculously over-powered) and Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance is down-right terrible. Even still, both DoA and MKDA are better than Tao Feng...

The whole counter system in the Dead or Alive games makes the game play wayyyy too defensively. It's ridiculous that a simple counter can take 25% health.

The whole OHH and AHH over DOA1 was over the fact that you could counter-counters which was relatively easy to do back then. I still remember PSM going ape shit over that fact alone. DoA2 and 3 it's dependent on the counter but its still possible. This is funny, because I remember bitching about Tekken 2 and how Nina and Paul players were unfairly balanced since they could counter the bejesus out of people. Then I used my head and got around it. For as easy as it is to counter stuff in DoA, there are several ways around it. Using counter-resistant moves for preasure, throwing often to get the person on offense and just plain mixing up your attacks, you know like every other fighting game ever made.

None of those are reversing the reversal (as was discussed above), that's strategy. One's a move while the other's a thought process. DOA3 is RPS: Attacks counter throws, throws counter reversals, reversals counter attacks.

Buy a ps2 and virtual fighter 4 if you want realism. The throw escapes look too amazing to miss out. Conversly, i think it was doa that had directional throws that could not be broken? That alone is not looked highly opon in a 2d fighter.

I like SCII the best out of those.

All 3D fighting games are blah.

CvS2 is the closest thing to a good fighting game on the Xbox, which is sad.

MvC2 is (for me) unplayable w/o an arcade stick, and only fun if you play against people who don't pick the same three guys over and over again, going through their robot-like routines. In other words, play it like an earlier vs. game and it's fun, otherwise it gets old real quick.

I would go for the 3D if they are casual gamers. People like 3D graphics. I'd recommend DOA 3 or Soul Caliber 2. I personally like SC 2 better, but I have the Cube version.

But you probably would have more fun with 2D fighting games.

True, no reversal-reversals. However, it's hardly RPS, as obviously the timing, hit-level, and use of all the different attacks and throws interact with each other strategically. Many times, if we stick with RPS, it will be rock vs rock, and there are plenty of rocks that beat other rocks, and certain throws have advantage over others and all that. Body placement and using the environment is fairly crucial in DOA3 as well. To say it's RPS at its core is like saying VF is: strikes > throws, throws > blocks, blocks > strikes.

For those that complain about reversals, I seriously think the "reverse-abuser" is the easiest opponent to beat, since they are the easiest to fake out and punish (command throwing a whiffed reversal). Even without that, just pecking away at them while they try to guess what you're doing will win you the round even if you get reversed once or twice (they're not nearly as strong as in previous DOAs).

On topic though, DOA3 is the best party-fighting game I can think of, and a damn good one all around. SC2 beats it out, but for what you're describing, DOA3 is the way to go (and it's a cheap platinum hit). Just be sure to unlock all the outfits, since playing dress-up is half the fun :sweat:

Anybody suggesting 2d fighting games clearly doesn't understand the audience Parcher has presented.

Get DOA3, or if you want realness, one of the UFC games. Though the UFC games are pretty mediocre.
