Upcoming TV Series DVD's

I know there's a similar thread like this. But I thought I'd refresh the listing and ask everybody to compile a list of TV Series DVD's they're looking forward to. Here's mine, although I'll never be able to afford all of these things:

Firefly - Amazing show. It's really cool and i'm sorry it got canned. Firefly movie is set to be coming out. I'm a big fan of Joss Whedons work

Angel - I've already bought Season 1 and 2 and 3 comes out soon. Again, Whedons work and I enjoy the show.

Buffy: The Vampire Slayer: Same as Angel, only Angel is darker and I like it more.

King of Queens: Funny show. Fills the void left by Seinfelds finale.

Curb Your Enthusiasm: Again, hilarious show. I know it's air dates and availability is quite low, but it's so well done.

The Simpsons - goes without saying

Futurama - same with the Simpsons

Family Guy Seasons 1 - 3 - same as Futurama

Malcolm in the Middle - I like this show a lot. It has refreshing writing.

The Sheild - I'm a huge fan of semi-corrupt police and this show has just that.

Seinfeld - Rumoured to be coming out soon... who knows. They'll sell like crazy. There's a rumour around that they're going to drop all 9 seasons at the same time. That would rule and suck at the same time.

Deep Space 9 - My favorite Star Trek. These things are so expensive.

So, list what you have your eyes on.

Curb hits tomorrow but I think I will wait for my bday later this month to get it.

Just picked up the Shield Season 2 on dvd...great stuff. Now I have both Volume one and two :)

How much were they? Curb is only 2 discs, so I don't think it'll cost too much and I may pick up the Sheild season 1 as well. I missed a lot of those first episodes because of work and inconsistent air-dates up here in Canada.

NewsRadio: Seasons 1 and 2. It was supposed to come out this month, but looks like it got pushed back.

Married... with Children came out with a set some months ago. season two is coming soon i think, and supposedly going to have somewhere around 40 easter eggs.

All the Family Guy seasons are available on DVD now (just 2 sets). We get season 3 of Futurama in February while season 4 came out on Region 2 this past November.

Invader Zim is sometime in spring.

Punk'd comes out January 20th... The Simple Life comes out a week after the final show airs.

Seinfeld wanted all of the people to do a commentary track but the 3 turned him down because they didnt get enough $$$. Supposedly they wanted a piece of the DVD sales.

But I wonder if they wanted that because they havent been able to do anything significant since the show ended, and Jerry's living large.

Actually Jason Alexander started The Producers and starred in it for a long time. So he's actually been successful. The Producers won almost all of the performance awards it could and is, historically, one of the best shows of all time.

They probably just wanted an outrageous amount of money because they didn't want to do it or are bitter Jerry and Larry get so much money because of their producing/creation credits. Seinfelds going to be doing a movie about bee's in the future. I think Dreamworks (Shrek) is going to animate it for him... it should be different.

Well, having bought X-Files seasons 1 through 8, I'm looking forward to season 9 coming out this May. Now if only they would start releasing Millennium on DVD. That would make me very happy.

Of course, Futurama season three is on my must buy list.

This might be a good place to say that Spec's (a music and DVD chain retail store) sells DVD seasons used at very good prices.

I've bought Star Trek Seasons 2, 4, and 5 for $40 a piece, as well as X-files 1 and 4 for $50 each. They were all minty as hell, I might add. I asked the clerk about it, and she said that people don't trade them in to the store; rather, they get them sealed directly from home office. Which is weid, but I'm not complaining.

EDIT: Will someone release the Tick cartoon series? Please? :(

Rhino is putting out Jem and the Holograms Season 1 this summer. Hopefully. :D

I just saw the Aqua Teen Hunger Force set at BB for 17 bucks. Cheaper than I thought it would be.

Any news on Everwood season 1 hitting DVD anytime soon?

Okay I forgot about that. And I heard the show that he was in (Bob Paterson Rules The World or whatever it was) was a pretty good show, Fox just canceled it way too quick (like the Andy Richter show, or TV Nation, or dozens of other great shows they have had). So yea, he's done something. But not the other two. I actually went to a TV taping of that show Julia Louis-Dreyfuss was in last year. BLECH! It was goddawful. It's not around anymore.

Yea, like I said, they wanted PART OF THE DVD rights! I never heard of people getting that for a fucking commentary track. I always thought the commentary track was getting a bunch of people, some beer, maybe some coke (it is Hollywood after all), turning on the movie, and turning on a mic. Just a way to fuck around for a few hours. Oh well.

They want a percentage of the DVD sales. That's really nothing new. It's like the star of an action movie taking less salary for the movie but getting a cut of the toy sales. A lot of people just do it for fun and shit, but apparently those 3 got a bum deal on the show as a whole (our idea of a "bum deal" may be different from theirs though). I can see where they're coming from though. They were a big part of the show and depending on how they do the commentary (every ep? every other?) it could add up to a lot of time (8 or 9 seasons wasn't it?)

Lets see...only things that I can think of that haven't been mentioned is finishing up the Transformers seasons, and the Highlander series is slowly but steadily being released on DVD. Yay.

I'd love to pick up all the Star Trek: The Next Generation box sets but we're talkin' big bucks there. I'll get around to it one day.

My brother (pixel assassin on these boards) has seasons 1 - 5 and is getting 6 and 7 in a months time. He's done his collection. Took him like a year and a half or longer.

I would loved to have Millenium set for Season 1&2. Long Gunmen too.

Brimstone is another cool Fox series that I wouldnt mind owning.

And Nash Bridges, but I doubt it will ever be released.

I'd love to see Mission Hill and Oblongs sets, but I doubt they'll ever see the light of day. I'm astonished at how relatively cheap many season sets are. Three's Company's first season is like $12 at BB. I have yet to see the ATHF set there though, odd.

- Next Generation 6 and 7 ($110 CAN ea.)
- Buffy Season 3(missed it), 6-7(when they are released)
- Angel 1-3
- Frasier Season 2 (low on my list, but I have #1)

In the next month or so, I plan on buying Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Next Generation Season 6. The first 2 sets are kinda more obscure, nice to have and watch. My Next Generation collection is coming to a close, but then I must buy DS9 and Enterprise, I'm pumped for DS9 though as it's a sweet show that I have not seen much of the later seasons. Voyager I *might* get some year just to say I have all the shows but meh, I dunno. Apparently watching it in order brings it to life... so I can't say it sucks.. yet.

Anyways, that's my future - I guess. Oh yeah and the Rundown comes out in March and that's a must buy, that movie suprisingly rocked a lot.

You forgot Stargate SG-1 season 5, it hit's on the 20th of this month. I'll be picking that up along with Angel 3 shortly and I've got ATHF vol.1 coming as I type.

I've been going nuts with TV series on DVD check the link in my sig to see what I've got.

I want to end up with all of ST TNG & DS9 but that's not happening anytime soon. What's with the prices on those? Do they just know that most trek geeks will shell out double what some of the same quality (& length) shows go for.

heeeeeeeey, we're region 4, but we still get futurama way before you guys :) its the only thing australia has for it release wise though.

Season 3 is a fucking doosy. The Commentaries are the best yet, and it has the best episodes of the entire series (imo, some people prefer the 2nd season).

The first and second seasons are my favorites. But this has some doosies, as you said.

Xeno Gigas: You have a lot of DVDs, but very few that I would personally buy. I only buy movies I know i'll watch again. The only exception being Matrix: Reloaded, which I recieved as a gift.

I only buy what I'll watch again, unless it's something I pick up for less than $5 then I'll just keep it since I won't get jack back for it anywhere (i.e. most of my kung fu flicks).

I don't watch Kung Fu movies seriously. I'm sure there's some sort of appeal there, I just don't have it.

Transformers was a unique show in the way it was made. They'd make like 130 episodes at a time in traditional cel animation and then air them almost consistently each week. I think this included throughout the summer and everything. So "season" 1 of a Transformers DVD would be really hard to pull off.

So I understand why they did it with that one.

I'm considering subscribing to Netflix for this very reason. I figure for the $240 it would cost for a year of Netflix, I could watch a hell of a lot more than just the 2 seasons of TNG or DS9 I could buy for that much. Babylon 5 is what I really want to see though, I never caught it when it originally aired but I've heard nothing but good things about it.

I'm seriously considering buying the Curb Your Enthusiasm set, as I'm hooked on the show thanks to HBO On Demand.

Wow, the Flintstones and Scooby Doo: Where are You? are each getting season sets, with Sccoby and the gang getting two seasons in one set. Cool stuff. $65 apiece is a bargain considering the historical significance of them.

I got Curb Your Enthusiasm, Star Trek: Next Generation Season 6 and Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 3(completing my set, well for now until 6-7 come out) today.
I pricey day, but I had some extra cash from a surprisingly big pay cheque. Gotta love that.

Show's unlikely to hit disc anytime soon, mostly due to music clearance issues include: "Ally McBeal", "The Pretender", "Boston Public", "The Wonder Years", "Batman", "Green Hornet" and "The Lone Gunmen".

I really enjoyed the lone gunman.

Space: Above and Beyond! Awesome, I used to love that show. I just hope it hits at the sub $50 level.

Oz season 3 is due out Feb. 24th. About fucking time.

Anyway, uh...I'm looking forward to the Seinfeld DVDs, whenever they come out. I have a few TV Series DVD's - the first Family Guy set, two Simpsons sets, and one Sopranos set - but I eventually realized I don't watch them enough to justify the sometimes ridiculous prices. The Sopranos set is something like $70-80 for twelve episodes. It's good stuff, but still.

Just curisous here, what the most bizzare price that you've seen on a new TV series DVD set?

When I was in Vegas and checked out the Star Trek experience at the Hilton their gift shop sold all the TNG seasons for $200 each and the DS9 ones for $180. It looked like they hadn't ever sold one, all of them had massive ammounts of dust sitting on 'em.

That's insane, the Next Generation sets can be bought for as little as $100. Assholes.

HBO tends to charge assloads of money for their stuff on DVD. Band of Brothers is around $100, and each Sapranos season is a good $80 or so. How much does Curb Your Enthusiasm go for?

It's a sad world when fucking "Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place" will be on DVD before something, you know, good. Music clearances are really biting a lot of shows in the ass, although they can be gotten around by changing up the music in the shows. "The Wonder Years" would really be butchered without the teme though, so I hope that some deal can be reached for those rights.

My roommate said he got it for $20, and I must say its the best $20 you can spend. Best comedy on TV by far right now, maybe the best comedy ever.

And each Sopranos is worth $80. ~13 one hour episodes of the best show on television gets you a LOT more viewing than a single 2 hour DVD.

$20 is a good price. I'll seek it out tomorrow at Best Buy, maybe I'll use some Reward Zone cash on it.

The thing about HBO is that their stuff is usually so good that they can get away with charging so much. I bought the Band of Brothers set and didn't think twice about it because it's just that good.

For highly priced box sets, think of it like this.
Usually about 6 discs, 4 episodes per disc, thats 24 episodes, that works out to what - 8 dollars an episode?

It's expensive, but it's not a rip off. Yet Buffy is 50 bucks per season and TNG is 150 (Canadian) and they are exactly the same amount of discs and length. I dunno. Wierd.

Speaking of HBO shows, Bet Buy's site has the third season of Oz listed at $54.99, though when it's released it'll probably be on sale for $45.

It has that biting, super-sarcastic type humor that I could see putting some people off. Considering how I grew up in New Jersey, the bitter capital of the world, I revel in it. There have been many times here when I tell a joke or something to people here and they get offended, whereas in NJ it just would've been a good joke for all.

Eh, I think sometimes humor here gets misunderstood mainly because it's harder to tell scrcasm or good natured-ribbing if you can't hear the person's tone of voice. I've had arguements on IM with people because my (at times) dry sense of humor gets misconstrued as something else.

Always a good choice, though the series didn't start getting really good until the second season (I assume you got season 1).

It has the reunion special in the set, which ruled. I liked the first season quite a bit, thankfully, Married... was a show where every season was at least solid, with some being downright great.

Mistake.

I dont see what the big deal is with Married... With Children. It was a one-note show that got old after like 5 or 6 episodes. When I started watching it it was good but after a while it was just like... every episode's the same.

Married With Children was an awesome show. I've yet to see CYE, but all I hear is good.

Just got the Tick live action series on DVD, and it's a far better show than I thought it would be. Sucks that nobody knows who to sell it to or how to advertise it.

Completely correct. Growing up, one of my friends was obsessed with the show, and I never understood why.

Married with children has its moments. ANd when its funny you laugh and laugh your ass off. But CYE is consistently funny.

I picked up one of the most bad ass shows to ever be broadcast on television yesterday: Crime Story. From Producer Michael Mann, the guy that brought us Miami Vice, this is like Miami Vice, only instead of Miami, it's Chicago, and instead of drug dealers, it's the mob, and instead of 1984, it's 1964, and instead of cool 80's music, it's cool 60s music.

The season 1 boxset contains the two hour pilot episode plus the 20 episodes of the first season. The pilot looks great, but the series has it's moments of graininess because a lot of the series is shot at night or in dark bars and for budgetary reasons the film stock they used was the same as that for the bright, day scenes. But it's fine, really, as the show is film noir anyways and the grain isn't a big detractor. Another downside is not having the rights to all of the original songs used during broadcast. But the vast majority of the songs *are* on this set, so slightly disappointing but not a huge deal, especially since the theme song is Del Shannon's "Runaway" and it's there in its full glory. The sound in in mono, which kind of sucks since this was originally broadcast in stereo. And there's no chapter breaks within the 45 minute long episodes, which can be a bit inconvenient, but I don't find to be a big deal.

The greatest thing about this set, other than the show truly being a classic a lot of people don't remember, is that the boxset is $39 at Best Buy. I find it to be very much worth it. If you're a fan of gritty mob/cop movies/shows, look into it. I'm a huge Miami Vice fan and I think the first season of Crime Story is classier but on par with the best of what Miami Vice had to offer, but less cheesy, especially if you don't care for the whole 80s vibe MV obviously has.

I am overjoyed that Millennium is coming to DVD. It is by far the best television show I have ever seen. I was starting to worry that my VHS tapes were going to wear out.

Go here for the latest updates. Looks like Lance Henriksen is working on interviews/commentary. Hopefully it'll have a good collection of extras. I'll buy this the day it's released.

I have been trying to get the 3-disk Ren and Stimpy set. It has like 42 episodes on it. They are all sold out at Time Life so I have been trying to get one off of ebay for under 40 dollars. No such luck though...

I was thinking about Ren and Stimpy, but it's one of those things where I'll watch half of them straight and get bored with the comedy...

Chappelle's Show - Season 1 Uncensored is hitting on Feb 24. I'll be all over that, amazon has it listed at about $19.00

The Firefly DVD is awesome... this show shouldn't have been cancelled so prematurely. In its second season I bet it'd hit big ratings.

Series 3 and 4 of Red Dwarf are supposed to hit next week. :)

I don't think Smallville will be out on DVD anytime soon either. (maybe it will I don't know). They have a lot of music on those shows that would cause copyright problems, I would imagine.

Damn right, and I'm feverishly awaiting Season 2

I have to repeat the fact that Firefly is an awesome show.

The Critic and Dilbert complete series both bowed yesterday.

Dilbert was actually a pretty cool cartoon. And it goes without saying that anyone with taste must buy the Critic.

Indeed, I only got to see about 5 episodes when it aired but I just got done watching all 14 in order from the DVD. I can see why it failed, Fox aired the episodes in a very odd way, hell, the 2 hour pilot was the last thing to be aired. This was one of the best TV series I've ever seen if you're a fan of Sci-Fi & Westerns go buy the box set now!

I can't wait for the movie.
