Wait, so it's $200 for SB with the controller, and $50 for LoC?
i think its $250 after shipping for SB. didnt bother looking for a LoC price.
yup LoC is $50.
I'm glad they're making more...but it's still too rich for my blood.
Maybe someday someone who has it will let me play it :)
If this was a controller that could work with multiple games it'd be worth it... but considering I still haven't got guns for my XBox because House of the Dead III is the only game that uses it, I think you'll see where I stand on this.
this sucks. i liked having something that was all rare and cool. stuff i sleep on *never* gets re-released.
Damn damn damn, do I wish I had $200 :(
I'd have to play it a lot to justify the price and storage space it requires. And I wouldn't, so ... eh.
Agreed.Quote:

Granted, I could just sell it on eBay. No big loss...
My friend Ted left his copy of Steel Battalion and the controller at my house for over a month.
I never played it though. I was intimidated.
Is tempted...
(nah, I'm really not...I'd buy some import DDR stuff first I think)
My thoughts exactly, I only wish they're was a demo of this somewhere before i could even consider selling it.Quote:

Great potential box art, but...

"Online Play Only!"
That fucking blows.
I can't afford the game and Live now...
Hell yeah I'm preordering this.
Steel Battallion is AWESOME if you like sims. The startup sequence on the controller gives me goosebumps. Anyone that wants to see it can come by =D
i really want this..
..like, really.
..
...DAMN YOU, CAPCOM!
Yeah but now you can play with other people on live!Quote:

In other news, I'd love to just play this goddamn game before I slap down $200 for it. However, all you Neo-Geo fans have no excuse. None whatsoever.
It's a niche/luxury/geek purchase. End of story. Over a year ago, everyone said "if only it worked for more than one game." Well, now it works with yet another game, and now you want even more games for it to justify a purchase? There's NO justification, aside from the fact that the overall package is unique, and the overall experience kicks all kinds of ass.Quote:

One more thing -- I beta tested LOC. ;) Start saving those pennies.
I want to sell mine...but Capcom flooded eBay with refurbs and prices are under $200 now.
Maybe I'm an ass, but I hope this run is limited and that the online release isn't accompanied by more controllers.
See, to me, it's still the same game.... It may be a sequel, it may be tons better, but it's still the same game. I can't see the controller being used for anything else without me considering it the same (Since it's VERY specific), whereas with a Gun, it can go to a variety of games. I just can't justify $200 for it, because I don't have the money to begin with, and I have too many other games to get to. I think it would be awesome to have, but as a poor college student living in a small apartment, it's just not logical.Quote:

a unopened Steel Battalion getting no play. Once I move I
will look forward to playing it.
It wasn't clear to me based on my limited time with the Beta. There was a "Campaign" option, separate from the straight online match-ups, but it could not be selected (at least, not when I was testing it).Quote:

mister planet. i would appreciate it if you stopped talking about the beta, as i am dangerously close to dropping 200 dollars on a controller, for god's sake. a controller that i have no room for.
But just think of the possibilities for our inevitable online team-ups!! GIANT ROBOT CAMPING!!! ROBOT CAMP-FEST!!! SUPER MECHANIZED STEEL CAMPING!!! CAMPITTY-FUCKING-CAMP BATTALION!!!Quote:

This sort of shit is a really really fucking cool thing to me and right now this sort of thing is why I would play videogames. It's for training.Quote:

Where'd you get that?

Get a Live kit, or STFU.

Well, fuck. Now I have to buy it. I was under the impression that it was closer to MechWarrior, for some reason.Quote:

Is GunGriffon Blaze any good, then? I know where I can get one on the cheap.
Any game store will have one "on the cheap".
If they have it. I've only seen it at two stores around here, and the one doesn't cary it anymore. :p
I was in the Beta Test for Line of Contact too, I wish I played a bit more of it but what I did I thought is was pretty good, you can customize you're mech's color and add you're oWn insignia as well which is cool... I made a Jon Talbain one that looked really cool :D
I will definately pick this up when it comes out, though I still suck badly at it :p
I had the "privilege" of working on a guide for the original SB, so I got my fill of single player mayhem. In fact, the only thing I want from an SB sequel is multiplayer. LoC seems to fit the bill nicely. Now all I need is $300 to blow on everything.
Any of you beta guys know if the comm switches on the controller actually let you speak on different channels on Live? That would be pretty sweet.
There should always be an offline mode to accompany the online one.Quote:

There is... in the original game.
Plenty of PC games have come out with singleplayer modes that weren't worth a damn. Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, CounterStrike, etc. It didn't make the games any worse.
Stop complaining.
But we already know that the single player mode WOULD be worth a damn. That's why I'm pissed.Quote:

Well since you need the controller to play this and to get the controller you have to buy the original game with it then it is not all online play... but it would've been nice to see a few extra offline missions included with Line of Contact though, it would be cool if you could download new offline missions but you would still need a XBOX Live account for that... :)
I do want to make it clear that I'm much more excited about the online play than more offline stuff, but I'm just pissed that Capcom neglected the offline modes.
So is LoC a full campaign you play with a set team (go through missions together), or is it more deathmatch style, or what?
I just remembered that my b-day is coming up. Maybe I can get Live and smoke you bitches earlier than I thought...
GunGriffon 1 and 2 are better, but Blaze isn't all that bad.Quote:

I'll sell you mine for $200.Quote:

I got mine in the mail Monday. I was rather surpised it came so soon to say the least. For some reason I really expected shipping to take a tad bit longer. I guess not. Sadly, since Steel Battallion arrived on my door step so early, I haven't yet gotten the special adaptor doo-hicky that will let me hook my Xbox to my pc monitor. So no nice desk for me to play on.
I have been playing with the controller held awkwardly in my lap... I've gotten up to mission 4, but now I'm getting my ass kicked. Drowned on my first walk across the bridge for reasons that anyone who's ever played should know... and now I'm just getting blown up by enemy VTs.
Still, the production values for the game are pretty darn high in my opinion. Sure the cutscenes are iffy... but the game comes with a full sized 36page manual dedicated to teaching you how to operate a Vertical Walking Tank. The manual is well written, and filled with enough jargon to make you feel like it could be a real world military document.
The controller itself is well made. I like the fact that all the buttons light up when you press them, and that the starting up the engines flickers all of the button lights in sequence. It's the little touches that let you know they really cared about the game they were making.
I've heard some people question the need for the start up sequence, and having played the game... I feel it really adds to the immersive factor. There is a gameplay element as well... the manual states that if the VT is overheated by damage or stress it can lock up and shut down. In such a case the start up sequence would take on a whole new meaning.
I would recommend this game to anyone with a love of giant robot movies, mechwarrior, oh... and a load of cash they feel like parting with. Bye bye $200...
Personally, I won't be getting the LOC add-on/sequel because my March game expenditures are already looking to be very freaking high... and because I suck at this game, and don't like playing games online and getting my ass soundly beaten by 12-year-olds.
yeah i think gamestops site finally has it listed.Quote:

My reasons for not picking up LOC is mostly a sucking issue, and and also a time issue. I'm still thinking about it. I'm really looking forward to being able to compfortably play SB at my desk... once I get my VD-Z3 Component -> VGA Transcoder.
it's definately true. you can shut off individual systems during a mission using the switches. also, it's possible to completely power your vt down so that you won't appear on radar. can't camp in an 8 story mech, eh? i'll show you how it's done.Quote:
