Fight sequences were a lot better and far more interesting VH, KB's looked exactly like they were actors performing scripted events (and if they had been doing their job it wouldn't have looked like that). The story in VH is also far superior, tying together multiple seperate legends in an interesting way is better then the same betrayal/revenge plot that's been done countless times in every form of media known to man. The writing is leagues better in KB, yes, but not the story*.

MechDeus, What fight sequences in VH? Aside from final CG battle between WereHelsing and Dracula, there were NO fight sequences we can speak off.

VH is simple CGI blockbuster summer flash and bang, but what is sad, it wasnt even successful as a simple brainless movie :(

Shooting sequences? Yes plenty, as VH unloaded countless arrows at flying Brides, and shot his guns at Werewolf and bady vampires. But actual fighting, Heck no.

And PLEASE dont make me laugh by saying that VH story is put well together. Its a joke, and so is the execution. Huge leaps of logic, plot holes and other nuances.

Both storylines are nothing new, I agree, but the way KB storyline is constructed, is done more coherent, especially if you watched both volumes.

If you count vampire cacoons that needs electricity to hatch, which somehow is magnified by a zombie monster (weak excuse to bring in Frankenstein) which will help an poorly acted Dracula who will die only by a wolfmans bite, a wolfman which they said in the beginning (Anna and her brother vs. the wolfman) Dracula made himself.

More ridiculous would be fine for this movie... but they billed this movie as Indiana Jones with monsters. This wasn't Indiana Jones with monsters.

And in VH almost every single cutscene is too long, except for the ones that matter.

Anna vs. the final bride and Dracula vs. Wolf Helsing are very short. The best fight in the movie is Hyde in the beginning. And seriously, what was with all the tarzan swinging in VH?

Kill Bills scenes look like they are acting because it's a throwback to the Samurai series... they did the same in those ones. It's supposed to look more like teamwork. By the same token, though, Uma Thurman did good work and the fight scenes were action packed. The scenes weren't over the top, they were exactly what they needed to be to make the film consistent.

So when Uma started break dancing with the sword and cutting off everyone's feet that wasn't over the top?

Mech Deus, watch Kill Bill Vol.2 even if you didn't like the first--it sets a different tone and focuses more on dialogue. It is the better half even though I enjoyed both parts immensely. Listen to CV--go watch the second film.

For a film based on paying homage and also transcending the kung fu genre? Not in the slightest.

Transcends? I recently rented Obsessed Invincible Fighter, a movie so old that there were no subtitles and it was horizontally compressed to fit a tv screen. Even OIF had a better story, better choreography, and more humor than KBV1. For a movie with the resources and budget of KB, it didn't transcend squat, and I'll watch an old Kung Fu flick any day over it.

It rips most of its material directly out of the kung fu classics... what's your problem with it? It's a revenge tale done right.

Point being Van Helsings plot is terribly goofy for a movie that bills and advertises itself to be like Indiana Jones.

See, that's where you're wrong. It IS Indiana Jones with monsters. It's not Raiders of the lost ark with monsters though. Seriously, Raiders is the ONLY one in the series that was serious. The rest were action,with comedy,with adventure. Clearly what VH was trying to do. It is debatable whether or not they pulled it off though. IMO they did, but that's my OPINION.
