So is it Dracula or werewolves
Pimp, I'm hoping this is really cool although I am a bit wary thanks to the PG-13 rating. He fights everything.Quote:

But I meant specifically in the movie. I've only read Dracula.Quote:

Set in the late 19th century, Sommers' screenplay finds Bram Stoker's fabled monster hunter, Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman), summoned to a distant Eastern European land on a quest to vanquish evil. Now, for the first time since the 1940s, Universal's greatest classic monsters -- Dracula, the Frankenstein monster and The Wolf Man -- return to the screen as complex, multi-dimensional beings re-imagined by writer-director Sommers. The Van Helsing character first appeared onscreen in the seminal 1931 Universal classic "Dracula" and has since appeared in hundreds of motion picture and theatrical adaptations of Stoker's novel.
The official released production posters didn't tip you off? When has a movie ever featured a poster devoted to a character not in it?Quote:

I haven't seen the posters. Thanks for the info though.
I'm hoping this movie will kick ass:)
I knew I heard werewolves! :DQuote:

Speilberg's the reason (Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom) they created the PG-13 rating.Quote:

Both movies weren't top notch uses of film by any stretches. But they were consistent, except for the shitty Scorpion King CG at the end. What the hell's going on with that?
And I know all about PG-13 Dolemite. Thanks anyway.
Dont forget Deep Rising. Hated by critics, it was one hella fun monster action flick :)
I too wish that VH would have been R, but with it being a big summer release, there are no chance of that. Still, I think Stephen Sommers will do well with PG13, like in Mummy series.
PS1 games look better than that.Quote:

THe windows media version is up at DarkHorizons http://www.darkhorizons.com/trailers.php
I hate streaming media and for some reason ASF Recorder can't maintain the connection to download it. Feh.
The Van Helsing links on that site don't work.Quote:

The trailer in a format that -- just for kicks -- actually works. The special effects look like special effects.
that doesnt sound good
Those effects were pretty special.
I think it looks great. Can't wait to see this.
That looks pretty good, the CG isn't the most realistic I've seen but it isn't bad... the Wolfman looks decent ^..^ :)

Looks great.. some of the classic Universal movie monsters redone in a modern style.. what's not to like?
I'll be in line for this come May...
Kate Beckinsale?
cool.
This movie looks totally kick ass.
The links worked fine when I posted them. The apple version was not up at the time I posted that link I had just been looking for the trailer last night and thats the first version I found.
Looks good. I'll be on it when it hits.
I remember laughing when I saw the poster because I was thinking to myself that all Kate Beckinsale was going to do now is star in bad vampire action flicks.
Hopefully this will be good. I'll check out the trailer.
It looks cheesy... but that may not be a bad thing. Hopefully it'll be a fun ride.
That CG looks pretty damn shitty, I hope they're not done with it. Aside from that, it looks pretty cool.
Oh, Here we go. Trailer just premiered, and we already have people whining about "shitty" cgi and such.
Seen it, and everything looks great, and I am sure it will be a very cool adventure flick.
Plus, the movie's stull being worked on, so I'm sure the special effects will improve. Hell, if you go watch the Blade DVD, the trailer is totally missing CG effects that the finished movie has.
I think Van Helsing will be great. The trailer has me looking forward to it a lot.
"Whining" suggests subjective interpretation. The CG is shitty. This is a factual statement complete with supporting evidence. Namely the shitty CG.
But, yeah. I fully intend to see it. The well scene in that town reminded me more than a little of the Succubus from Symphony of the Night.
Anyone else see the Crucifix boomerang? Awesome.
It looks just ok to me, nothin special, but I'll see it. I like Hugh Jackman.
I don't think the CG is shitty, it may not be the best I've seen but it is far from the worst :p
I'm torn about this movie, it has a werewolf which I like... but he is just going to be hunted by Van Helsing which I don't like :(... I'll still go see it though ;)
Watched the trailer...
...lost all interest. :(
My favorite's the Matrix trailer which has a scene that doesn't have its background yet. The menu video on the DVD is the trailer, watch the scene with the flame shooting through the room and you'll see the lobby is missing. It's just shadow and flame, not unlike a Balrog.Quote:

That didn't look too bad. I wonder what would be in store for a sequal, though? Van Helsing vs The Mummy:)?
The scene in the Blade trailer is the part near the end of the movie in the temple when he pulls his sword out of the wall. In the trailer he's just standing there by himself, but in the actual movie there's a vampire on either side of him, both turning into dust.Quote:

I just hope it'll be a slightly better movie than LXG.
Enough with LXG hate already :(
it'll never end despair. your feelings are doomed.
Yep, thats a cruel world for ya. :p
what? the one i saw had the release date and the normal gruff sounding cinema guy....seemed liek atrailer to me.Quote:

I saw the trailer in all of its splendor at the movies today when I saw Along Came Polly (which is an amazing comedy. The basketball thing isn't the funniest thing in the movie by any means) and it seemed to be exactly as negitoro pegged it.
Some parts look great, some parts look silly. I just hope that they dont make it anything like LXG or Underworld... ugh. Isn't Speedman (or whoevers directing this) the person who did Underworld too? Van Helsing always appeared to be more like Sherlock Holmes than an action hero in the books. Half of it was him deducing just what the hell was going on instead of always blasting his way through everything.
I'll still probably see it, but it's not as cool as I thought it was going to be.
Oh and LXG sucks.
Andrew, How about going to IMDB and checking the production team for the film, before doing any wild guessing, about the director? ;)
Yep, And Hulk was a masterpiece. :lol:Quote:

And the hulk was much better than LXG. Better acting, and the direction was great. If you had taken out the aspect of the Hulk (as the cartoon) and put some foul demon or something in the place of The Hulk it would have been 10x better.
Oh well. Atleast I can live with my poor taste in a movie without having my feeling hurt ;)
It still sucks.
LXG
Underworld
Blade films all kicked ass imo and this looks GREAT!!! FANTASTIC even.. and yes it looks to me like Castlevania on film kick ass!
btw, Hulk sucked hairy donkey balls...
People who praise LXG don't have their opinions taken seriously.
BTW LXG sucks.
Hulk's story was convoluted and went long gaps where it was boring as hell, not to mention the cg was garbage...
Spiderman
X-Men
Daredevil
Hell even Batman were way better examples of comics on film...
What the hell's wrong with Batman? The first movie was excellent.
I used Batman as an example because it gets shat apon constantly.Quote:

That's what I don't get... yes the last two were horrible, but why does the first Batman get shat upon? It's a fine film... better then the first X-Men movie by far.
I dont know if id go that far but I guess thats just matter of oppinion... have you watched it lately?
About a year or so ago... and I still enjoy it.
I rewatched it about 2-3 months back and remember thinking how corny it was when just 5 years ago or more it was the shiznit.
I dont understand what you mean by the "convoluted portions" but I already admitted it was one of my more sinful pleasures (umm... I should probably have reworded that) of film.
BTW, Batman and even Batman Returns to an extent are some of the best comic to film adaptations to date. Except for the whole Joker falling in to acid bit, which was bizarre. But I think they just wanted the vandetta to happen quick without risking a huge bump in the rating.
Animated prequel?-

Isn't Stoker's Dracula the prequel?Quote:

I've come to my own conclusion that this movie will probably suck. Van Helsing seems to be portrayed accurately, but it also seems that they're focusing WAY to much on a bunch of small enemies like Dr. Jekel and Hyde, the Mummies, etc. Building up Frankenstein, The Wolfman and Dracula will be hard enough to do in 2 hours, now they waste time with him on these other enemies.
Perhaps i'm exaggerating, and I surely hope I am, but I don't think this movie will have very good pacing and will probably turn out more like LXG... with Despair loving it, of course.
VH looks great IMO.the CG does not look shitty.
Hulk DID suck hairy ass chunks.
LXG was the shite.
I think the most intersting and unlikely thing to happend is a tie in to the Manga/Anime

Did anyone see the preview during the first half? Seems like they showed more scenes and stuff. One with the Wolfman breaking out of a wooden cage and another with Dracula getting ready to take a bite out of someone. Dracula BTW looks ridiculous. His mouth is just way oversized or something. He looks like he's related to Mileena from MK or something.. :|
it's stylized. The other vamps did it in the trailer... so it was assumed that's what they were doing with the vamps...
Finally got the trailer to work. Looks good. Looks reeeaaal good. Man, it better not suck...
That's the silliest looking Dracula ever.
No you are
OMFG PWN3D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...well, not really. :p
What is a cookie monster but a miserable little pile of secrets? But enough talk, have at you!Quote:

lol. I don't know what I meant by that comic, really. Van Helsing was more like Shirlock Holmes than a super hero...Quote:

By decent do you mean generic?
It looks like it'll be a fun movie to go see.
At the worst it'll probably at least be better than Underworld.
By decent I mean not good, not bad. Average. Middle of the road. Fair. Intermediate. Mediocre. Middling. So-so. Common. Ordinary. Garden variety. Business as usual.Quote:

Plus, a new trailer's supposed to debut with Dawn of the Dead tonight.
I KNEW you meant generic.
This movie is going to be one of the hits of the Summer. Everybody I know, from different circles of life, are saying they want to see this thing, and I'm one of them. I have little faith that the movie will turn out to be good, because to me it seems like there's way too much monsters going on in here, but who knows.
Kate Beckinsale and Hugh Jackman look like they fit their rolls well.
I have watched few clips from the film, that available on Yahoo films, and it looks pretty decent.
We definately will be seeing it this Saturday, and I will keep my expectations low, so in case it actually good, I will enjoyed it more :)
I will post the link to clips later tonight.
i just sit here and say "meh" to this film. everyone i know has to tell me 100 times a day that this is "as close to castlevania as were going to get". wow.....like i dont read that all over the internet everyday too. also the weapons look too futuristic to me. like shit outta underworld, not 13th century Transylvania or where/whenever it is.
i mean ill see it when it hits the dollar shack but im not going goo goo over it. (part of that is my unemployed state atm as well).
Sci Fi channel yesterday showed alot of footage from the movie. It looks to be in the same as The Mummy but with more cornball dialogue and some cheezyness.
I had hopes that it would be darker than what was shown but it looks to be all flash and no substance.
I think I'm more interested in Shrek 2.
Ive wanted to see this one for a while too, but a lot of the reviews Ive read of it have been pretty bad. Not that I'm one to give a rats ass about what soemone else thinks of a movie, case in point: Punisher.I'll just have to follow Despairs line of thinking and just go into it with lowered expectations and hope it bedazzles me or something. At the very least the special effects should be pretty pimp, so that shouldnt disappoint,.. and Kate Beckinsale...mmm...thats another '+' :D
I think this movie is going to suck. But I hated The Mummy and The Mummy Returns so...
Ok, Here is Ebert's review. 3 Stars, he seemed to like it ok.
http://www.suntimes.com/output/ebert...elsing07f.html
Most of other reviewers whose reviews I read, hated this movie with a passion :)
"'Van Helsing' is silly and spectacular, and fun."Quote:

Same here... i was expecting it to be over the top fun and that's fine with me.
Castlevania on screen. Seems good enough for me.
I just saw the movie a half hour ago, and Roger Ebert's review is right on the mark. It's not a spectacular movie or anything, but it is quite enjoyable, and the special effects are great; Van Helsing definitely has the best werewolf transformations that I've ever seen. I'd give it 7.5 out of 10.
Actually, the vast majority of the focus is around Dracula himself. Mr. Hyde is only in the beginning and there aren't any mummies. The movie isn't as much of a mish-mash of monsters like the previews seemed to show.Quote:

7.5 is good enough for me. I'm trying to go see it this weekend.
