Well I was linked to this by Pitch. I'm sure he was hoping that I'd have something nice to say so I'll start with that. TNL is truly a great place. I miss all of you guys that I used to crack jokes and discuss Phantasm with. There is certainly no other message board with such a huge number of members and regulars that is more friendly or knowledgable.
GameGo!? Anyone else find it odd that PaCrappa can find this thread after not showing his face for seven months but none of the staffers could? After six days even? If anyone got paid let's hope it was Shou or Kenshin.
TNL forever! TFP forever! Shmups forever! To me, no matter the alleged intentions or actual relevance of the magazine, it is only worth honoring for bringing so many gamers together. Therefore it is more important in my eyes to honor the live and kicking meeting places that we (ex GG! loyalists) frequent regardless of any of the light friction that is generated between two of the above mentioned three.
Although I was absolutely compelled to call it like I see it, I hope that noone from TNL will be pissed with me. I do respect this place and all of the people here.
Pa
A whole year already?!
Wow. GG was the first message board I ever joined. Although I probably did more lurking than actual posting, I was still there, enjoying myself. :)
Good ol' GameGO... Even if I did hate most of you, you're all good in my book. Heh heh... TFP forever. If there's one thing I'll remember when I'm a crazy old man, it's you lunatics.
Where the hell is Riisuke?
Hijikata is gearing up for his E3 trip, but he can be found posting over at SZ on occasion.
He also did a Chop-socky article and reviews for Spiderman...and something else recently on the TNL front page.
Happy anniversary, darlings.
It is so strange to look at something as transient and common as a message board with any degree of serious emotion. A lot of that sort of thing can be chalked up to nostalgia - the passage of time can make a merely pleasant experience seem momentous, but there is much more here.
I am not just staring misty-eyed into the past. GameGO was a wonderful, significant place, and I knew it while I was there. It was the first interactive Internet experience I truly got sucked into. Everyday, at all hours of the day, I knew I was one dial-up connection away from a vibrant, supportive, super-knowledgeable community. I treasured that board as a resource and as a circle of friendship.
As we head into possibly the best E3 yet, I find my passion for games undiminished, and I look forward to sharing my thoughts and observations with all of you. But I am also looking into the past, and I hope that my increased presence at TNL can pay adequate tribute to the spirit of "enthusiast" gaming we found in Gamefan and celebrated in more than 100,000 posts on the old Games-a-GO-GO forum.
So here's to that wonderful place that I will never forget. Here's to the lines in the sand we drew over subscription fees and cel-shaded Zelda; here's to the GameGO Online abortion; here's to ECM, Kodomo, Shidoshi, Eggo, Fury, the Mr. Goos, and the rest of the Gamefan crew we got to meet and yell at; here's to Pitch, whom I used to dislike for his "Hmmm" posts and his "lalala (:" (USED TO); here's to the SquareGamer drama, ROX saying he would put hentai animators to death, AudieMurphy pissing all over the forums, and Hero pining for recognition. Here's to classic lines like "If I liked peanut butter and you said you were apathetic to peanut butter, I would want to fight you" (something like that) and "I'm trying not to laugh." Most of all, hats off to ECM, burgundy, MechDeus, QuinnFox, AtlusSeven, and all the others who impressed me and stand as a testament to the world that it is possible to be both a seriously dedicated gamer and a very intelligent human being.
On a less serious note, I miss the old light blue color scheme...
Damn...
Good lord, things were so great back then... NOTHING could top the quality of those boards... NOTHING will ever come close, I fear...
I still have it bookmarked, too...
If only...
I remember GameGo. . . . somewhat?
I joined up around the time school ended, posted
for a week, was there randomly for a few months and started
posting again around August. . .
as for the actual board, I don't remember much.
I remember ranting about Kunio and Technos and some other
interests at other boards, and no one knowing what the hell
I was talking about. And on my first day at GameGo, there
was someone registered with the name Kunio-kun, and Johnny
and Nick had the RCR avatars, Ruhztee had the avatar from
the NEO GEO super dodgeball game, and that all combined to put
a smile on my face.
Kunio kun ended up being a devout republican, which had me conflicted
a bit.
hmm. . . fun discussion topics that would get over 100
posts in a few hours, though I suppose everybody that
would join up got tired of that practice eventually.
got tired in general, I suppose, for the people that used to post
often at that board are now the passive members of this one.
Like most of my experience on the internet, and life, and all that, it seems like one big sociology experiment which leaves me with a bad opinion of what should be the best people. but that's just the
way I am I suppose. Most people here come off as pretty cool.
its been fun though. I don't plan on leaving any time soon.
that is all.
Wow... the time flies...
*shoots time down*
...and stay down!
...bad jokes aside, I remember all that as if it were yesterday. 'Specially the Square Gamer thing. Wheee was that fun. I also remember being the third Sausage King. Then I remember barely posting here because I got so damn busy all the time. Bah! Bah to it, I say!
Still, good times were had by all. I hope.
...and I'm sure most of what I want to say has already been said.
So the spirit lives on!
...or something.
*doesn't scurry back to his hole. stays right here and posts, 'cause summer's here early!*
Geezis Goodness! Pappa PaCrapps! Finally...
You gotta get that avatar that looked like a ship back again...
Chaoof! I remember you posting a lot more on GG! than you do now...
Crazy good stuff...
