Why don't you guys have any advertising on the site/boards? If you did it like Penny Arcade, where it's not a pop-up, but just a banner, I'm sure most people here would gladly give it a few click throughs just to help out TNL.
Also, I understand why you guys don't have any kind of premium membership thing, but I wish there was more I could do to help the site. Like, buying T-shirts or something.
I'm fairly certain that there are banner ads around. And on the other subject, at one point they were thinking about doing that but the plans fell through.
I don't know what they don't have lots of porn. That makes lots of money on the internet. That would help alot. Tonnes and Tonnes of pornography.

You'd be extremely hard-pressed to find ad providers that do banners only. We tried that at MK5.ORG, but the one banner ad place we found started doing pop-ups as well.Quote:

Well, 2003 was a bad year for management. I rather suddenly took over the site mid-year (like the first runner-up in a beauty pageant?), but I was in the midst of some personal issues, so I was not willing to devote myself to actually running things here. Reno worked his tail off as editor-in-chief, but he felt his hands were tied in some key areas, so he stepped down.
Now that I have taken the reins, I am working to bring to life some ideas I had as far back as GameGO. January 2004 is the first time I can comfortably run with these things. The developer profiles are the first part and from now until E3 you will see the rest unfold. I have been an influence on the site and the forums over the past couple of years, but this is the first time I feel I can actually get things done effectively without being vetoed by a higher-up or heading into some other obstacle. With the extremely talented staff and readership TNL boasts, the things I have been wanting to do will join with things others have wanted to see to make for a more compelling site.
The reason you don't see much advertising around here is simply this: the site is not good enough yet. I am not approaching potential advertisers or putting up a donation button until everything gets ironed out. There are plans for t-shirts, but I am really at the mercy of a designer on that issue, just as I am at the mercy of a designer when it comes to the oft-discussed new layout.
