It hasn't aged that bad IMHO from screens I have seen, not much worse than Mario 64. Plus the lead doesn't look like Meg Ryan yet. :p j/k Sorry.

Seriously though, I have a high tolerance for old 3D graphics. What kind of minigames does it have that are fun? Some sort of Chochobo racing?

Believe me, I won't be buying the movie till I have finished the game. But with starting Chrono again, playing through Shenmue and all my shooters I have my work cut out for me. :sweat:

I already unfortunately am spoiled for at least one major thing which is Cloud's love being slain.

There's actually a fuckton of side events and quests in FFVII, most of which you can still do in the last disc. Chocobo racing, battle arena, hidden materia, mini-games like the Phoenix Tower and Snowboarding..it's all good.

I managed to go my whole life without finding out this spoiler. Everytime some buddies would talk about the game and start to mention the "big surprise", I'd cover my ears or walk away. Then, just one day before I got to that part in the game, I accidentally found out at PSP-Vault. Shit.

But yeah, the story is really complex, so cover all the bases first.

Would you guys say this is pretty much the best story of all the next gen FF games? Are 9 or 10 worth my time? Not interested in 8 at all. Besides its rep, the characters look terrible. Squall is like the ugly lovechild of Michael Jackson and KD Lang. Yowza.

FF7 definitely has the most character intrigue. It goes out of its way to sort things out with them primarily. They all have issues, deal with them in semi-realistic ways, and come out of their ordeals with a stronger personality. The actual plot is fairly predictable, but the way it all plays out is highly entertaining. It's not shakespeare, but it could have you ponder for a while, and that's cool.

FFIX is definitely worth your time. The battles are a tad slower for some unexplicable reason, but it's worth it because the story and characters are so great. FFIX has the best cast of all the PS/PS2 installments of the series.

FFX is pretty popular, but if you're like me you'll probably never want to play it again after beating it once. I don't know if you're like me, tho, so I guess you could maybe give it a rental or something.

I'd say at least FFIX and maybe FFX are worth your time. FFIX is more of a throwback style, it's a traditional FF in visual design like the NES-SNES games though obviously with more detail. It's also the only FF with characters I really enjoyed (tongue creature aside) and while the story is very typical I also found it to be incredibly charming. I loved it. I cried at the end.

FFX, from what I've read of the latter portions (I never wanted to finish it), has an interesting if not silly premise overall and is nothing if not different. Personally I couldn't stand the characters and the I think the art design is fucking dreck and is some of the worst I've ever seen in my life in any form of visual media, but a lot of people enjoyed the game so I suppose there's a draw there somewhere.

Mind you, I think FFVII is almost total throwaway aside from the great art direction.

Just wanted to say thanks to Shadow, Trial and Mech for their detailed FF 9 and 7 impressions. I still have the FF9 cover issue of Gamefan, I should dig it out and read the feature article (it was also the final issue :( )

Looks like Shenmue, FF, Chrono and my shooters will have effectively ended my life this fall. :p

Whoah, now. Keep in mind that FFX had Auron, who just so happens to be the coolest video game character in any game, not just the FF series.

I enjoyed FFX, and I don't know why everyone hates the characters so much. Yeah, Tidus was a bit cocky. But he's sort of meant to be disliked from the beginning, while he slowly builds his character as the game progresses. I thought the love connection between him and Yuna was done wonderfully, and the additional characters, like Lulu and Wakka, just make it that much better. Whatever, though. I suppose I can see why some people didn't like it as much as the others, but it's worth a look if anything.
