It'll never happen, the first FF movie bombed hard, and that's what they're gonna look at, even though this movie is the best thing since sliced bread.Quote:

Just finished watching it, my face was thoroughly owned.
I'm going to rewatch this with my sister in a few minuts.
Just finished up myself. Unless you totally hated it, if you played FF7 at all, watching this movie will bring the fanboy/girl right back out of you. But damn, now I want movies this good for more FF titles, like FFX, and while we're at it, movies this good for video games in general. As well, I'm not really sure that Square is going to be able to get away with not making a FF7 remake after this... people are going to be storming SquareEnix HQ demanding it.
OMG Vincent's first appearance rocked.
OMG Vincent's first appearance rocked.
Truth like a mother fucker, he was bouncing around and whupping that ass all over town
The tunnel scene is hands down some of the coolest shit ever, but nothing beats the sheer carnage of Cloud versus Sephiroth over the ruins of the Shinra building. SE was smart in making his appearance brief, but awesome.
Cloud is also sporting a nice new "Neo Buster Sword" that's like, 5 swords in one.
Shit was fantastic, all of it was.
If you don't orgasim while watching this movie there IS something wrong with you....
Freakin A he did. Was I the only one that didn't know what the red cape was till 10 sec after the fact? I was like wtf for a sec cause he was moving so fast lolQuote:

I don't see it listed on sites yet but if the release is November 15th, then it's still early.
They totally underused materia, you'd think for something that came across as common as it was in FFVII that there would be some spells used here and there aside from the Bahumet summon, of course, but almost nothing. Not really a complaint, just struck me as very wierd.Yes.Quote:

I watched it (with an english sub I downloaded). I have never actually played FF7, so the story is absolute foreign to me, but the action was still great.
Or you could look at it this way....
For the Geostigma, I think it has less to do with the Lifestream going through people as it already flows through the people naturally. When Jenova/Sephiroth's cell infected the Lifestream and its base, it was passed on to others through that means. I believe Vincent says it but the cause of the Geostigma is an after effect of the lifestream trying to purify the body of foreign bodies like the immune system does. In this case, the foriegn body is the Jenova Cells. As a result of this, the body has distortions in the skin like you see on Denzel's head and Cloud's left arm.
As for Kadaj, I think they literally meant that he and the other 2 were like Sephiroth (as in from the same experiment/clone batch) and born from directly from Jenova. Getting that infusion of cells from Jenova just pushed his body to the limit and pushed him to become an incarnation of Sephiroth. So yeah, it kind of pushes the whole idea of Sephiroth being the epitome of corruption through the roof.
The entire fight between Cloud and Sephiroth was a repetition of the end of FF7. Rufus talks about it. The Lifestream works in cycles and that repetition is fated to occur. The same mistakes are bound to occur. In a way, Cloud faced the same thing. He lost that understanding he gained towards the end of FF7 (Tifa explains it towards the beginning of final fight between Kadaj and Cloud), the ability to move on with his life. The events of AC act as way of reminding Cloud of what he learned and that as long as he continues to hold on to the memories of his past, the same things will occur again.
As for the wolf, I wouldn't say it's the reincarnation of Zack but a symbolic creature that represents Cloud. There's that saying that wolves are loners and in the film, it's used to symbolize the emotional distance that Cloud has put himself and Tifa and the others. When he finally realizes at the end that he has a lot to live for and that he wasn't alone in his journey, the wolf disappeared next to him.
of course, that's just me rambling so pay no need unless it really makes sense ;p.
just got done watching it a few minutes ago.
only way to describe it...BAD ASS.
thats it.
a perfect example of a good video game movie done right, but thats easy to say cause its not live action.
yeah, the remixed tracks playing playing throughout the movie were too f'ing sweet.

My computer sucks. I just bought that shit off of eBay for 5.00. Heh.
EMULATION IS PIRACY! YA HURRD?
Got it overnight, and will be watching it either tonight or tomorrow. Right in time for my birthday :p

For reals. Don't try to shift blame onto your computer.
You know who's fault it really is.
this movie was good times.
Would this movie be good if you've never played FFVII?
Good if you haven't played it, fucking radtastic if you have.
The beginning of the movie gives you somewhat of a backstory, mainly about how Sephiroth was a crazy mofo. They glaze over the finer points of the story, but it's enough for you to enjoy it.Quote:

i cant wait to start taking screen grabs of this. gonna make some damn fine wallpapers.
I made av's with the rip, but I'll wait for the real dvd before I make wallpapers.
what are the rips at anyway? (havn't scored my copy yet).
Not sure I follow. We're watching dvd-rips while good, they're not the perfect copy.
i get this, if theyre rips what did they downsample them to is what i'm asking.Quote:

Eh, maybe, if you at least enjoy flashy things. There's really not much story there in the first place, it's mostly just a reunion of FFVII characters for the sake of having a reunion. What characterization they do have is drawn from references to FFVII which are for the most part not explained at all, so you'll probably be really lost every time a deus ex machina happens and you'll have no idea who entire portions of the cast are (then again, they don't really do anything with any of the new characters except Kadaj anyway). See it for the fight scenes.Quote:

We're talking about encoding the subtitles into the file itself, so you can put it in portable media and have it play with the subtitles. Any monkey could put a sub file in the same directory as the movie and double click.Quote:

Granted, I wasn't expecting fine cinema, but I was at least hoping for the plot to either (A) continue the plot of Final Fantasy 7 in a way that related to the game more than "Jenova is bad and Aeris dies" or (B) make sense.
The Aeris' cock-teasing got real old, real fast. I wanted them to go into that so much more, or at least do so in a meaningful way, but instead they just subjected her to a Ghostwriter act. Lame.
Sephiroth showing up just to show up was also lame.
Cloud with the ability to fly is lame.
Little girl with mog doll was beyond cute.
Final Fantasy: Advent Children is like a super model. Beautiful but painfully retarded.

This just shows that it's a lot easier to swallow mounds of stupid bullshit if you're playing a game instead of watching a movie.
It's fun and flashy and all that, but it's also painfully dumb.
Nono, not that. I'm talking more about that motorbike scene with him and the other two white haired guys. They were flying down that tunnel, and again with him against Sephiroth.
Granted, he's not whizzing around like Superman, so maybe FF7 just takes place on the fucking moon.
Maybe it was an illusion and they were just jumping on very tiny buildings. ^_^Quote:

But I'd totally play a FF7 remake.
Gotcha. I think out of everything, that was probably the part I had the most problem with; they did hold them in the air a bit too long.Quote:

There was a lot of flying around in this. It did annoy me minutely until I remembered that this is a movie based on a videogame. In the videogame the characters do a lot of shit that isnt possible either. No flying, but still - why not? They summon huge magical beings, cast spells, have guns with unlimited ammo for arms, etc.Quote:

- Who in the hell was this Denzel kid? I dont remember him in game. Someone mentioned Cloud was his dad right? wtf
- needed to see more Vincent + Vincent shape shifiting into Chaos (even though he didnt really need too).
-I thought it was kind of cool seeing Zack and Aerith at the end.Shows they were always watching his back - especially Zack being that wolf and all.
Oh, yeah - the only other thing that annoyed me in this was the constant phone advertisement going on. Yeah, we get it - cell phones are cool,Cloud uses one,Tifa does too, and fuck, even Vincent is looking for the phone shop.
We get it ,Square, you want us to buy one of those LGVX 8000's through Verizon.
And the phone floating down to the bottom of the water like a dead Aerith / cry - poor cell phone. :yuck:
Is a movie based off of a game called "Final Fantasy". Really now what all did you expect? I mean for one the battle scenes in the game are unreal so why expect them to be in the movie?Quote:

I never beat FFVII, nor did I play all that much of it. I've seen the ending and had a general idea of everything, so most of this made sense to me (minus a few characters that went unnamed).
Last fight was badass, and it was pretty as I expected a Squeenix movie to be.
Oh, I am totally stealing the soundtrack when it's release. It was pretty rad.

I agree with this. I mean it was cool but I wanted more of sword fight. Then again in the game didn't he tranform into the big one winged angel and casted a summon that should have destoyed the planet they where fighting on?Quote:

from a technical perspective the movie LOOKED AMAZING some really nice work done by the square artists there, for the most part the animation was really good, though it was pretty obvious where they were using some motion capture, and I don't know just didn't cut the excess frames right cause there was some herky jerky stuff there that could have been smoothed out
I will say the sephiroth/cloud battle was awesome, maybe that's what I wanted 2 hours of sephiroth and cloud, no Kadja
I just watched it and I don't know not sure how I really feel about it yet, it didn't blow me away like it did everyone else *shrug* I'll have to watch it again tomorrow
That's pretty much how I feel too. I thought I'd be a lot better...I would have liked to have seen more locations. It seemed like there were only like 6 sets. It felt like a really narrow, incomplete story to me.Quote:

Honestly, I think Spirits Within was better. That at least tried to be a movie instead of a really long cutscene.
I think more of the story will be told via Vin'z game as well as the anime movies along with it.
Did you know that the creator said the project was original a 30min skit? Then they saw the potential and made it a movie.Quote:

First, it was a 1 hour 30 minute or so movie. You can't compare that to a 50+ hour game. There's no way you can go to all of these locations and bring in all of these characters, and try to give them all equal time without the movie being an utter mess. Had they done that, then people would be bitching that they tried to do too much, and that they should have concentrated on a few of those characters. If this were a TV series, or something like that, I'd be there for you.
Second, FFVII's story (game wise) was a convoluted mess. I'm glad they didn't try to match that in the movie. Yeah, it would have been nice to see the ending of the game more fleshed out, but could that even really be done? If you make a movie about the final fall of the world, you aren't going to bring in the FFVII cast, and that isn't what people wanted to see. People wanted to see Cloud and Tifa and everybody else.
I think people are expecting too much from this movie. They didn't have the time to either give all of the characters and places on the world worthy screentime, and they also didn't have the time to create a whole new story and get it fleshed out while fitting it into the elements the game had created. Again, you can't expect the same thing from a sub-two hour movie that you do from a 50+ hour game.

I still think people are expecting too much from a CG movie with a guy named Cloud that carries around a sword bigger than him, coming from a company with a known history of not being the best storytellers in the world.
I wanted something that was fun to watch and had cool stuff, and I got exactly what I hoped for. I'm thankful I don't put such high expectations on everything. ;)
Oh, I went in expecting flashy bullshit and a lame plot and got exactly that. Doesn't make it any better, though. :p

Jenova reaching into the world was the Geostigma, and when Kadaj and Co got near them their power amplified, a perfect example is when Kadaj is at Rufus' place and he starts flipping out and you see a glimpse of Seph. By bringing everybody with the geostigma together they were able to have more power, and easily manipulate them(The kids) to their will. Aeris helped in the background, you could tell when Voz or whoever was distracted when he got near the flowers in the church. After Kadaj got Jenova's head which was essentially the Geostigma concentrated, he became Seph, and then the final battle occured again, after Cloud beat him, Kadaj returend to normal, and Seph went back into the lifestream. That's bout all I can think of now, but it's not like it was a shitty story.
