New Title: Global warming to cause second Ice age within decades

Tracer, like I said Im not gonna sit here and get mad and shitty about stuff I cant really change. Even if I knew for a fact that all this is true and England is gonna be a puddle by 2060, what can I do?

Not buy an SUV? Im not buying one already.
Not take hour long showers? I dont.
Take the bus? I already do that.
Not eat at McDonalds because they get their beef from rainforest farmers? I dont eat at McDonalds.
Give my money to Greenpeace? LOL.

Anyway, there's not a whole lot we can do about it. I think Im pretty eco-friendly in my beliefs and actions, and plenty of people push plenty hard to warn others of the dangers of driving an SUV or whatever. But, people know its fucked up but they dont care. They need that bling-bling, rolling on 22's type shit. There's not a whole lot I can do about, and pissing myself over something that may or may not happen in 50 years won't do a whole lot of good for anybody.

I have no formal education to speak of. Much of what I have learned what I have taught myself and it is fallible though I tend to be methodical about it. I am, I like to think, empirical in my thoughts. There's not much want in me to see any measure of catastrophy as possible or likely. Despite my lacklustre background, clearly seen through my sometimes poor spelling, the misuse of some terms I occasion, and an other times poor overall use of the english language, I belive I am learned and indeed informed. Particularly in the field of science. I also neglect, without intent to do so, some other things so I can always be sure that I cannot always be sure (I like that. It's funny to me). In saying this, I am saying that; I know I can be wrong here. There is always that chance. But leaveing the environment to chance is exactly what all people should NOT do - especially in the face of more findings like the one this thread was started over.

Speaking of that -
The findings that this thread was started over are compelling enough though not 100% conclusive. However, I just want people (since while you or I can't do much to stop the forces of nature many people with science and technology can) to acknolegde that mankind and our technology and our industry has the power to change worlds. We do not know every consequence of what we do. CFC's were a pretty cool invention. A compound that was so inert it was considered 100% harmless. Little did we know that it was too inert. Those CFCs last for thousands of years in the atmospehere. When ionized it nutralizes O3 molecules in the upper atmosphere. Hence the hole in the ozone layer (interesting to note that ozone in the lower atmosphere is a poisonous gas). Just one example of a good idea with actually benign intent goes wrong. It also serves as a pretty good indicator that we do indeed have an effect, and often it is negitive and always inadvertant, on our planet. The hole is there. We caused it. It's proven. Now: whatelse are we doing?

That's all I want. For this to be acknowledged: we have harmed and are continueing to harm the planet. That's, pretty much, step number one. If people en masse don't belive that there's any problem no steps will be made by indivisuals and no steps made by governments will be seen as nessisary or productive. In the 70's, during the oil scare, people were economically forced to drive more fuel effecient vehicles for instance. A measure such as this taken today would be seen as a right inconvience with no reason behind it UNLESS people are aware of the threat our current (in general) lifestyle posses.

The first step is acknoledgeing the problem, the next is understanding it and from there we take measures accordingly to mitigate it and further steps for long-term prevention. Northern Europe iceing over, or not, is not the entire issue. There are many other potentially hazzardous results and we need to be aware of them. This science carrys on even though people (like the majority of people here it would seem) write them off as worryworts and depressing crazies who think the world is nigh and so on and so on.

Just a few additional facts I want to bring into this thread.

1. The hole in the ozone layer is decreasing.

2. The finding that are presented in the article say that the ice age will come sooner as more of an indirect result of global warming rather than a direct result.

If you care about it, then you should vote for people who want to do something about it. I don't care enough about global warming to make it something I would base my vote on. If voting isn't enough, you could try to become a politician yourself and change things.

Just please, don't protest. Protests are so lame.

Not conclusively. The idea is to find out more and perhaps find out whatever else there might be that is more directly related to our advanced greenhouse effect.

Agreed, but rather than worry bout it, shouldn't they be looking to find solutions for the problems the ICE age will bring? I mean, we can pretty much rule out all red meat as cows and possibly lambs won't be able to live in that climate. While I know that there is a substitue for red meat that is from the root of certain mushrooms, I want proper red meat dammit. >_<

I thought the Greenhouse Effect hinged on the hole getting bigger and providing less and less cover for the planet from the sun's rays?

It is not so much the ice age coming because of the greenhouse effect but it was rather sped up and it was going to happen anyway.

Instead of happening 100 years from now, it will happen in a couple of decades.

As for red meat, what I said is purely speculation. Because we don't know how Europe cold weather will affect the rest of the world but it is a possibility.
