Anybody out there need a converter to play Famicom carts in an NES for whatever reason? Go grab some of your old first party first gen NES carts like Gyromite. For whatever reason, the very first NES carts made were famicom boards stuffed into an american casing with a converter. I guess they didn't have time before launch to start producing propper NES boards. Open one up and take a look, if you so desire.
That is one of the coolest things I've heard in a long time. Maybe I'll try it when I get home...

Yeah, I knew about this, back when I worked at funco, I took all the gyromytes and compared their weight, the heavier ones had the converter, plus, you could tell they had them because the conections where differnt.
I don't think SMB was early enough. It would need to be a launch game like Duck Hunt or something. As for getting composite video out of a top loader:

Still, I've been planning on ordering a 3.8mm security bit from MCM Electronics for quite awhile since I think my Donkey Kong 3 cart may be one of those earlier NES carts and the grey-market Famicom-to-NES adapter that I already have is hardly reliable.
BTW, Super Mario Bros. was a launch title in America, so certain copies may have the adapter inside.

I did this a while ago, and it works great.

Nope, as a matter of fact, Super Mario Bros. was the main pack-in game in the NES Control Deck and was pretty much a system seller, since people were still used to old Atari games.Quote:

The very first NES set came with ROB, the light gun, and Gyromite and Duckhunt on separate carts. It wasn't until later that the Control Deck with SMB as the pack in became available. I'm pretty sure that the NES launched in August 1985 and SMB was October 1985. I don't know when they started having SMB as the pack in.
