I wasn't even aware that there was a Darius Gaiden for the PC, until I saw one and then realized they are selling for a few dollars at various places. Half Price Books may have em for .98 The screens were alot cleaner than the Saturn one by looking at the backcovers but it may be the way the shots were taken. I'd assume the PC version would be superior in some areas but I really don't know?
So how's the PC Darius Gaiden?
Haven't had the chance to try Darius Gaiden, but I do own Layer Section for PC, ported by the same folks, and I assume the quality is similar.
Judging by this, I wouldn't recommend the PC version at all. It doesn't run nearly as well as the Saturn original, and the graphics are really bad. They've been dowgraded to 256 colours, with lots of dithering and general ugliness. The Saturn rev is really cheap, so there's no reason to go with an inferior port.
One nice bonus is that the soundtrack is intact, and sounds very good. If it's cheap enough, it makes a nice audio CD.
A word of warning about the PC version: I haven't had any luck getting it to run under XP. You can play one level, then it crashes.
The Saturn version is fine. I decided to keep the import rather than the domestic since the two are identical, but the US version has horrid cover art and comes in one of those huge cases.
The "unofficial" PC version I have works just fine, if you know what I mean.

They're both totally solid choices. Don't sweat it either way.
PC version looks fine to me, plus there's hardly any slowdown, while the Saturn version has quite a bit.
