Man, got 36 yesterday and can't even break 21 today. :(
I plan on playing for about 6 hours at work tomorrow.
I will break 2 minutes.
Holy crap this game is awesome. I'm a Gameboy Advance homebrew programmer. But I'm learning PocketPC game dev. I think I'll do a game like this for my first PocketPC game. Lobo, you might just get what you wish! :)
I'll start work on the PocketPC version when I wake up tommorow.
I was itching to get started on a new game, especially for PocketPC. Thanks for the idea. So much!
I'll keep you posted. My games usually take a week to make. I work very fast.
One of my games is a GBA remake of the QBASIC game Gorillas.
It can be found at:
http://www.fragglegames.com/current.html
The PocketPC has a D-Pad and usually 4 buttons usually very badly arranged.
The screen is thin and tall, called portrait view.
Also, its very simple for me to take a PocketPC (WinCE) game I dev and convert it to Windows 9x/NT (Win32).
Any ideas on what you would like to see done with a PocketPC version of this game? Idealy the game should use no more than two buttons, since the PocketPC's buttons are so horribly placed on average.
If you want to contact me directly, my AIM is: TrHeEv
I'm very serious about this. :)
Shit... just do a straight copy of this game... thats more than enough.
I wish there was some way I could help.
On the PocketPC, theres some free code that lets users upload the games high scores to a website. I was planning on doing a PocketPC game since the market for simple fun, less big company big money games, can get a lot of attention. I basically have three options:
#1 PocketPC: Easier to get word out of the game via PocketGamer.org and such news sites. Large fairly untapped audience, though its usually an older crowd. Can upload high scores to my webiste but its a pain for the user to do. Theres also the option of selling my games but in this case I wouldnt be looking for profit from it. Can port the game to Win32 but would have to spend some time on it and the Win32 version wouldnt be as nice as if I just did it specially for Win32.
#2 Win32: You guys can play it and easily upload high scores. Hard to get people to find out, download, and play it, though. No fun making a game that nobody plays, which is why I left the GBA Homebrew scene.
#3 Flash: I could write this game in Flash. Would have to learn the language but it doesnt seem too hard. I could keep the game on my webpage, and it could keep high scores. I dont really look to become a flash programmer though.
Since I dont plan on making money from the game, and due to the audience, Im thinking PocketPC might not be a good idea. Making it a flash game seems to be ideal for this game though. Then again making it for Win32 would be easier/more fulfilling for me.
So which would you like to see an improved version of this game for:
PocketPC
Win32
or
Flash (embedded in a webpage)
Win32, so I could play it at work.
Go POCKETPC VERSION! I would love ot be able to play this game all the time.
PS: After consistently getting above 30, I now can't break the 30 seconds mark. I'm so go-damn streaky. Also, can anybody translate the messages and the score screen? I'm dying to know what the text says when there is a near miss...
Wow suprised theres some other PocketPC gamers here. Awesome.
Icepick, you cant load a webbrowser at your work? Evil!
Well if it comes to programming it for Windows, it would be a matter of programming it for the PocketPC (WinCE) or Win32 first. The reason I would make a Win32 version/clone of this game is the fact I'd have live High Score stats, which is a feature I really think this game could use.
Flash is attractive for this game since it easily allows uploading of high scores, and can be played without havng to download an exe and such, it'd just be an embedded SWF file in a webpage. Great for a quick pick up game. Programming in Flash compared to C/C++ is like Ringling Brothers compared to Circus So'lei, to me. Its very fruity. Follows some of the same syntax though. Flash 5/MX's IDE and terminology is weird.
I consistently suck at this game.Quote:

Well, I amuse myself anyway. Had a 65 run that went sadly uncaptured. I think I'll just delete the bloody thing now since just one run never actually is.
See, what they need to do is put this and about a hundred other similarly small, simple, stupidly addictive games on a single Xbox disc and make it Live compatible.
