San Diego police are investigating a prostitution ring in which girls as young as 12 are working for teenage pimps who often recruit them at neighborhood schools.
While teenage prostitution among runaways is not new, San Diego police say the problem here has never been so severe. The ring may be contributing significantly to that, police say.
Police are not releasing details of their investigation, and they concede there is much they don't know. Investigative documents state the prostitution ring is headed by a loose confederation of 17-to-24-year-old males who operate primarily in the South Bay.
After drawing the girls into prostitution and persuading them to leave home, the pimps force them to hand over their earnings for food, clothing and a place to stay, police say.
Police believe that up to 100 girls and 30 pimps may be involved. The ring first became known to law enforcement last year but may have been around for as long as two years.
Holy shit!!! Check this out!!

In El Cajon, police say prostitutes are getting younger and are increasingly working for pimps who are predominantly gang members. During one recent sweep in El Cajon, police picked up a 13-year-old prostitute from San Diego
Gang members, eh? Was that last quote politically correct?
