If you want to blame someone for starting this bullshit policy, try Dubbya's dad. When I was in the Air Force in '93 it was an utter mess, with rampant racism and bureaucracy everywhere. They were also letting people go for the stupidest fucking reasons. I entered the service January third, almost three weeks before Clinton took office and this shit was already the norm. Clinton just continued it (which pissed me off too).

BTW: How much of their actual pay do servicemen get when they retire? I heard it was about 35%.

Alright...so the Bush administration cut taxes across the board (but more for the wealthy, of course), dramatically increased spending, and thus created huge annual deficits - all this after Clinton balanced the budget? This strikes you as fiscally responsible?

Its not. I know I never said it was. HOWEVER... 2002's economy was far, far, far different from 1997's.

Heheh, Mike, you pay more in taxes because you make more than you did under Clinton, or you pay more in taxes because you moved to CA. You don't pay more in taxes because of Bush.

Nonetheless, we didn't need to get rid of the top tax bracket.

Clinton passed some good tax cuts, also. This year, his Lifetime Learning credit (20% of qualified educational expenses as a tax credit (CREDIT!), up to $2000) is helping me out. Not bad at all.

And, anyways, if/when Bush gets reelected, I fully expect him to declare that MASSIVE SPENDING CUTS are necessary to get our country back into the black, and he'll follow through by slashing a ton of programs (after he's been reelected). Starving the beast, like (DiffX?) mentioned.

I wouldn't say either was a very good President, but I've heard some nasty things about the military under both administrations. From what I've heard the military was horribly underfunded and had tons of maintainance problems because of it under Clinton.

As for your question on retirement pay...I could ask next time I see my Sgt. or talk to one of my relatives.

I don't think so, the world is pretty straight-forward on this kind of stuff. Some might disagree over us invading Iraq but using WMD would piss a lot of people off unless we had a damned good reason (and to the best of my knowledge NATO countries are only allowed to use them in response to similar weapons).
