You know, I just read a review about this backyard wrestling documentary and was considering posting a thread about it...sounds really messed up. Check it out.

I want to see this. it looks really fucked up.
God... some kids just shouldn't be allowed to watch WWE.
wait so this is basically some idiots doing backyard shit and they made a dvd out of it? i hope they all got crippled.
I've actually attended a few backyard shows...and once I saw someone get hurt pretty badly. It was a hardcore match...the two idiots fighting were using shit like street signs, forks, lightbulbs, folding chairs, you name it. They both were bleeding from the forehead (I kept waaay back, I didn't want that shit on me) and basically everyone watching stared in stunned silence at how these worthless individuals were brutalizing each other. Anyway, at the end of the match, the ref was bumped, fell down, and one of the wrestlers flung a stop sign at his face like a frisbee. The sign hit the ref (a 16 year old kid) under the nose, and went clean through hil lip and into his gums. Naturally, the kid bled like crazy and had to go to the hospital and get, like, a million stitches.
Since I live in TN, there are a shitload of local promotions that keep these kids from doing this unsupervised, untrained, deadly backyard shit. There's a show somewhere at least every weeknight (several on the weekends) and just about any of them you go to you'll see a booth to sign-up for lessons.
Back in the WCW / nWo days me and a bunch of friends used to do a little backyard shit after watching the PPVs. It was pretty funny, actually. I still have a little scar where someone hit me with a suitcase and the zipper caught me in the right temple.
Anyway, a few years later when we were just about to graduate from high school, one of these friends approached me about a job. He told me he'd been training for one of the local feds and he was going to debut soon. He wanted me to sign on to be the fed's announcer. I agreed.
Now, when I got involved I kinda figured it'd be just young guys and pretty low-budget. But, in reality, I ended up working for a 300 lb. Samoan guy (who was also the heavyweight champ of the fed, go figure) and get paid diddly for doing two shows where actual people attended (it was at the local National Guard Armory).
Yeah, I know that's completely off-topic, but I wanted an excuse to tell me story.
They have a whole series of DVD/tapes for an "official" BYW group. This is a documentary on the world/culture of backyard wrestling.Quote:

the Backyard looks alright though. i'm not big on docs, but the one from a few years back (Beyond the Ring?) was pretty good. seeing Jake the Snake being a total washout was sad, but interesting.
Close. Beyond the Mat.
