Is this game as "hard" or "harder" than Shinobi was percieved to be?
Been wondering that myself. It'll be interesting to compare difficulty and why once it gets here.
I'm guess there will be more falling into pits and restarting the level from scratch in Shinboi, whereas in Ninja Gaiden you have to contend with tougher, smarter enemies. Probably less patterned combat too.
Just guesses for now though...
Korly, what was your problem with the boss on Level 3? Whenever he was about to hit me with lightning I cut him, then it cancelled his lightning, then counter his physical attack that he'll throw at you right afterwards, rinse wash and repeat.
Oh hell yes that sig rules.

omfg spolier that shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i never played thru gaiden 2 or came across any walkthrus during my many years of gaming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMFG!
hehe....needed to get that out.
My first impressions (getting through 3 1/2 chapters):
The camera is far from perfect. Itagaki opened his big mouth and now needs to insert his foot in it. On several occasions a building clipped the viewing field from seeing either me OR the guy I was trying to kill, so there wa nothing in the screen. Why the R thumbstick needs to automatically go into FP mode I'll never know.
Chapter 4 is pretty convoluted. Go through this door to get this thing and then go through the same door to get to the door that now works...
It is a fairly difficult game, but not in the same way Shinobi is. In Shinobi a lot of the difficulty revolved around chaining enemies; in this one, it's about using a certain move to dispatch a certain enemy, and when multiple attack, you have to adjust quite a bit.
I prefer Shinobi. Doesn't look as flashy, but I found it more rewarding. So far. I think this is a good game, but certainly not the end-all of "ninja games" (whatever that means), and not deserving of the praise it's getting. IMO of course.
So far Ninja Gaiden is WAY better than Shinobi. Even though the camera is not perfect, I will gladly take it over Shinobi's "I move too slow to actually follow the character player controls" camera system :p
And thank god for absense of endless pits and stupid "water to the waist deaths".
I got my game on Tuesday and I got to chapter 4. The damn ninjas with the exploding darts really piss me off. Oh yeah, FYI, I hear that on chapter 4 in the Han bar theres suppose to be something cool thats hidden. I dont know what it is cause I havent got there. I just want to open up the original games damn it! :) If anyone knows how let me know.
Mine just arrived! Secluding myself for the rest of the day to enjoy it, happy is me.
Wallscroll is pretty cool little bonus too, didn't think I'd get one ordering a day before it came out.
"Oh yeah, FYI, I hear that on chapter 4 in the Han bar theres suppose to be something cool thats hidden."
Well outside of it is the Xbox development unit and a boomerang shuriken...oh and an arcade unit is in there, which may play one of the NG when you do a certain thing
The more I play it, the more upset at the camera I get.
Well, it can't be worse than the DMC camera, and I loved that game regardless.
I'm still buying this! You can't dissuade me!
Goddamn, it's finally mine. I've been up for like a day and a half though, so my skills are pretty poor at the moment, just made it to the first save point and decided it'd be best left until I can properly maneuver my thumbs and eyes at the same time. That said, the game seemed pretty damned good for what tiny bit I played, though I kept throwing myself into first person on accident, and the graphics aren't exactly mindblowing as of yet. It's also really surprising just how much Ryu's abilities mimic the Prince' in PoP, fighting aside. And is it just me, or are the pause and save menus in this, basically the exact same fucking thing as DMC's pause/save menu? Funny.
I was lucky to get one today. This shit is selling like hotcakes.
- and yes, it's the same. 1st thing I noticed when I paused the demo.
Word, I got like the last one or two for non-preorders, and they must've had like 100 more sitting there. And completely unrelated, but I talked to the guy there a bit and he just gave me an animation cel that I assume was a preorder bonus for Maximo vs Army of Zin. Cool. :) (though I guess that must mean Maximo didn't fare too well in his second outing :p)Quote:

Anyone know if you can back track later in the game?
I got mine today, but no wallscroll. The bastards at EB ran out. I'd gone three times in the last 2 weeks asking for it and they never had any. She just handed me the game like "be thankful you got anything" and ignored my anger.
Dumb fucks. They promise something and don't deliver and don't give a shit. That is why EB is fucking garbage and will never get my money again. The manager at GS will at least give me an old mag or poster if the promo items run out.
Fuck you EB.
As for the game, it rocks hard. The camera, however, is utter ass. 1st person view? WTF? I notice I end up fighting out of view under a building or ledge or something. All you see are the furious swipes of my blade!
I seen that arcade machine and got the boomerang before I read the post. Anyways I finally got the hang of kicking the damn ninjas that throw the bombs ass'. Now I"m stuck again. Stupid safe. I dont get it.
It sounds as if you have a problem with the title of the game, not with the game itself.Quote:

Yeah the camera is odd as well, most of the time I don't mind, but the whole first person perspective is useless. Why would I need to use that so much to have a stick devoted soly to it?
Overall I like it, its not the end all be all, but still fun. And does not feature the creativity the other NGs feature (not yet at least I guess). I can't really say that its "better" than Shinobi. I really liked Shinobi and found it to be quite fun. The two games seem like they should have been swapped almost. Because this NG plays nothing like NG, just like Shinobi plays nothing like Shinobi. Swap the two and it would make more sense, kinda odd when you think about it.
Yeah, tell me about it. My EB didn't even put any copies on the shelves or mentionned it. I guess theyre's too many preorders. I'm happy I was #4 on the list [the friend i went with was like #2]. And it's not entirely the same, little changes in the presentation and the music are in the final version, if that's what you we're talking about.Quote:

I really don't have any problems with the camera, hit R and it's fixed right behind you. Or do you want it to change for you, while your mom holds your hand and walks you across the street?
I shall save my splooging, but for me it lived up to the hype. PS: I didn't play the demo because I couldn't find it anywhere within 3 cities of me. HOORAY!
I'm stuck on Chapter 5. Jesus christ...Im across the draw bridge..and I have no idea where I'm going. This keeps happening :(

I feel let down by all the early talk about the great camera and the near perfect reviews of the game. Getting beat down by regular enemies before finally getting shot by someone off camera and having to play the last 10 minutes over and over isn't all that fun. I've just gotten to the city, so hopefully things will pick up but so far I'm kinda let down.
*btw, I dislike having to run back and forth buying items and health potions and whatnot. Half the time I played DMC was just beating down enemies in rooms to get money to buy stuff, and it looks like the same could happen here. That's one thing I liked more about Shinobi, no backtracking and no item fetching.

The game wasn't originally being designed as a Ninja Gaiden game, but Tecmo stepped in and forced Team Ninja's hand.
I don't see how anyone can compare Shinobi to this when the combat in Shinobi was boring at first and eventually became another element of the horrendous platforming system. The combat in Gaiden takes skill, patience, and tenacity.
The camera is fine, I've had no problems I couldn't handle by just pressing the right trigger.
As an aside, Otogi is NOT an a ninja game. Anyone who told you Raikoh is a ninja is lying.
Well its been called Ninja Gaiden for like 2 years now before it came out, you would think they would have done something to make it even make it remotly like a Ninja Gaiden game.
I thank ye sir. :)Quote:

First Master Ninja ranking. That felt good.
This game definitely gets better as you play it more. I've restarted numerous times now and I can artistically clean up most of the enemies through stage four. Very fucking cool.
So far I've gotten a few Head Ninjas, a couple of Greater Ninjas, two Master Ninjas, and two Lesser Ninjas. I'm hoping after you beat the game you can go back to any chapter and redo it for a better rating (or to pick up missed scarabs).
Korly curses an awful lot while playing this game... He also almost threw a controller, I laugh at his shortcomings. :)
Well I've been playing the game awhile and I like it quite a bit. Despite what the superfans say, the camera does suck but it's not something that kills the game. The option to rotate the thing would have made things much nicer(Especially in the cramped blimp). The combat is actually a ton of fun once you get the hang of it but the enemies still have ai flaws that one can exploit which hard not to fall into.Could care less about the story or characters, the game itself is fun and thats good enough for me. I did like the blue ninja suit from levels 1 and 2 considerably better than the leather one though...
Chapter 8.
Helicopter
What in the Hell do I do?
Korly is a sissy, and doesn't know what to do on Ch. 7, anybody wanna help him?
EXPLAIN the problem.
I'm up to stage 6 & I can tell that this will be in my top 5 games of 2004. great stuff.
JM
I agree, it's gonna take a bit to knock this one down.
I got out of being stuck in C.7
Wanna know what sucks? There is this stupid little jumping puzzle right before you fight the ch.6 boss. It only takes like, 2 minutes if you do it right, but I'm prone to fucking it up. So, after about 30 tries, I get up there, and then get my ass kicked by the boss. Next, I get up there on my very first try, and fucking OWN the boss. Of course, about 10 seconds into ch.7, I fall into a hole and die. Was I able to save it first? Of course not. So, after about 40 more tries, I finially make it back to the boss and kill him again. After a little AIM chat with Slip, I find out the proper direction to go in, and then I'm off to a save point.
I think they should let you save between chapters. I'd appreciate that.
I got Master Ninja on my first run through level one . . . followed by a Ninja Dog on level two. :/
The game's decent. Drakengard has me in it's grasp at the moment, but Ninja Gaiden will get some play time every now and then. I stopped at the airship level because of really freaking cheap death. Never in my entire video gaming career have I ever been so frustrated. I was crossing to the aft section of the ship, you know, hand-over-handing the connecting cable, when two jerks decided to pop out from behind the scenery they were hiding behind and snipe me off the cord, laughing as I fell to my doom. Had I seen the guys before I hopped onto the cable, that wouldn't have happened, but the bastards were hiding behind something.
Piss me off.
Overall, the game seems to be artificially difficult. Not that I don't like the challenge, just that I could do without all of the rediculous frustration.

Actually, they DO appear before you hop on it. What I did was I would run to where I was going to hop on and then pull out the bow and arrow before going across.Quote:

G0zen, it worked. It made absolutely no sense (I didn't look like I was throwing them anywhere near the helicopter) but it worked. Whoo~
And yeah, my hands are sore from holding the XBOX controller for that long. I'm on level 9 so I should have this thing done by tomorrow night :) Then it's time for hard mode!
Is the camera THAT bad? The second lowest review after GA's had only one bad point about it and it was the camera.
I stopped playing DMC because of how the screen change system worked.
Most of the time the camera is good. It's just occasionally you'll be hit by enemies you didn't see coming despite them being right next to you. Some kind of 'ninja radar' would help since I'm sure Ryu could hear a horse running full out behind him.Quote:

What is the deal with people & the difficulty of this game? Yes it is difficult, & can be frustrating at times, but on some other fourms, people are absolutely freaking out about how hard it is. No one posting here has seemed to have a tenth of the trouble that a lot of people seem to be having. Wierd.

Because it was enough to tick him off there and people are complaining about the exact same thing in NG. I can't think of a single other game (well, the REs are pretty terrible but also slower paced) that's obscured enemy locations half as bad as DMC, so it's logically the best example for How Not To Make A Camera.Quote:

While I agree it was annoying, it wasnt enough to break the flaw of the game. Once you get used to the way camera worked in DMC and get the feel of the surroundings, it wasnt a problem to navigate between the screens.
I never said that DMC camera setup was the perfection, but if cared to spent enough time adjusting the the setup and environments, it was manageable. Hell, but the time I was done with it, I could play it with my eyes closed
To me it did.Quote:

I had to force myself to get used to quickly tapping the R trigger to re-center the view (or simply launching myself toward the nearest enemy with an A+X combo), much like I forced myself to adapt to Gunvalkyrie's control scheme. It's not perfect, but the whole point of the game (madly stylish acrobatic ninja combat) would be lost if you had to take your thumb off of the buttons to dick around with a separate camera control.Quote:

With this I will agree. The camera is only a problem before you have a solid handle on your surroundings. After that, though, it's all butter.Quote:

I can't comment on NG directly since I currently don't have the cash to pick it up, but once I do I'll be sure to drop by and place my comments on what Itagaki claimed to be God's gift to videogame cameras.
Compare this to Rise of Honor, which had a camera that never got in the way in the slightest ever, because the main focus was close-combat melee and the shooting sections were specifically set up to travel almost 2D-like so that you wouldn't recieve cheap hits. Hell, RtH has one of the best cameras for a 3D game that I've ever seen and that one doesn't give direct control, so it can be done. Hopefully some developers took notes.I find this comment funny because the game changes your control though a method you have no influence over, yet you have trouble telling how to move forward in games that give you total camera control.Quote:

I understand. We've all played enough games to be stronger then the majority of casual gamers. Still, it's pretty hard. I'm stuck with Alma on Chapter 7.Quote:

Games still going pretty good, but levels 4 and 5 sucked, they really sucked. Luckily it got better once you made it to the Monastary.
One question though, does this game ever go back to the one big level making up a stage formula(Like the first 3 levels) or is it going to be gigantic area with different sections to make up stages from now on?
Do we need to make a new devil may cry camera thread? Seriously guys, lets try talking about Ninja Gaiden.
JM
Your like that kid that would say stop picking on me in the school yard, and id just throw more rocks at.
/edit/ the camera's fine if you have any skill. nuff said. ;)
Also noticed the camera will pull back and reorient if there's an enemy coming from off screen in one direction. It's kind of subtle, but now that I'm clued into it, I notice it every time. I still wish the camera was locked behind Ryu (or had some option for it) but I'm having almost no problems with it now.Quote:

You have to collect the technique scroll before you can do certain moves, like the Izuna Drop for instance.
I saw this on Gamefaqs:
I spent 50 bucks on this game and now i find that it is physically impossible to beat. Hell, I won the Florida state Halo championships and made it to the quarter finals, and I still can't beat it. Therefore, on behalf of the Ninja impaired, I demand that Temco release an "Easy Mode" patch, either over Xbox Live, or through OXM. Or both. This game is FLAWED. You can't put out a game that is flawed. A game that is so hard it has half the nation entering the Controller Throwing Championship does not need to be released. An easy mode couldn't be hard to include. So if I get five hundred people to sign, maybe they will realize that not everyone can defeat a gazillion enemies while pulling a paperclip out of their ear and juggling 23 half hot dogs. That's what normal is like for me, and many others. So please tell me your thoughts and sign my petition before someone goes berserk over this game. Hopefully Temco will realize that the game is so hard as to be flawed, and give us some remedy. Keep this bumped.
lol.
What a pussy. Go back to playing HALO with your fuckbuddies, n00b. Leave Ninja Gaiden to the real men.Quote:

Sometime in chapter 5 I hit a groove and Ninja Gaiden has become cake for the time being (5th boss was a joke), but I'm sure it'll pick up.
Finished it. Totally badass. Going to play again.
I hate this game... I hate it so fucking much!!!
And yet I keep playing it.
Disturbing. :(
HAAAAY...After you beat it can you go back through the levels and picked up stuff you missed?
I started a game on Hard mode for when I get sick of getting stuck on my normal game (Chapter 13? I forgot). I didn't notice many differences, but breakables and chests that used to carry items don't do that anymore =X
No but, outside the third stage, you can access everything in the game once you get near the end. There might be a few things I'm forgetting, but I'm pretty sure you'd be able to go find stuff you missed.
However, there are certain challenges that I'm pretty sure are chapter specific. If you revisit certain areas/rooms/sections, they tend to be populated with enemies that give a reward when defeated. I don't know when this starts occuring, but I found several areas that did this.
Stayed up all night since I slept alot today... got to Alma, bout to go to sleep.
Yeah, I'm STILL at Alma, but that's because I found Conan alot more interesting then she was last night. Apparently McDonalds will stop supersizing their food. :wtf: [trying not to derive a good thread]

Yes. AI is top-notch.....enemies hit hard and fast. It becomes easier as you begin to upgrade your sword....for a while.....then the enemies get harder.Quote:
