Troy

I didn't like it. The "love story" felt too forced with excess time being spent on scenes trying to play it up - just what you need in a three hour movie. Pre-battle pep talks, along with much of the dialogue, were heartless and uninspiring, similar to the musical score (though the solo bongo during the Hector/Achilles mess was well suited). I didn't study much (any) Greek history so all I know I remember from the Iliad in seventh grade, but the story seemed like it was pitched in Hollywood as "Braveheart in ancient Greece with Brad Pitt as a superhero!" They even got some of the old Braveheart guys to reprise their role, accents and all! :p

The only thing I found epic about Troy was the length. I thought it would never end and I was more than relieved when Achilles "got his" and the credits rolled. On the upside, the battles were entertaining and Brad Pitt looks cool in a helmet. :chick:

I thought the Hectar - Achilles fight scene was one of the best fight scenes since Tom Cruise's fight with the 5 Ronin's in The Last Samurai.

(although that wasn't really that long ago.)

Well, that's cool. I liked Troy better than Gladiator anyway. I really don't know what makes a movie technically an epic. Anyway, I thought Troy was a well made movie. I liked the love story, and I thought the fight scenes were excellent.

I saw it last night..I was very impressed. Overall I thought it was an excellent movie.

I think epic refers to an epic battle for supremecy (like war battle). In Gladiator he just wanted revenge for his wife & kid, Caesar and the honour of Rome (maybe not even that much).

I'm not sure what to think about this movie, it just didn't hit me that hard. I liked it and it was definately a decent movie but seem too Hollywood to me. I'll give it a 3.5/5 for now, at least it didn't suck.

I think it would've been a bit better if they didn't speak modern. Subtitles can be annoying but I wouldnt've minded reading them.

nah, the english allows us to get lost in it easier. Subtitles would just act like a barrier to emersion, and I don't think its worth sacrificing that for realism.

Saw it, and i agree it was a mighty fine film, though epic tales like this generally aren't my cup of tea. The cast could not have been better. Easily one of the greatest casts I've ever seen in a film. All of the 1 on 1 fights were emaculately choriographed, thought the large scale scenes could have been more violent. I agree that the love story was forced, but it was expected. The major flaw in the movie was its soundtrack, which was down right awful. They used that whore singing too much, who oversang and overdecorated it with dissonance.

Overall, its a fantastic film based on great source material backed by an awesome cast and beautiful direction.



Finally, Eric Bana has shown the rest of the world that he can act. He stole the show. If you want to see him in another role where his acting is supurb, try and hunt down the movie "chopper".

i agree with this. ill have to check out chopper now. overall i felt the same way i did with van helsing. too long and too forced. i swear to god if i had to see pitt do that jumping lunge one more time i was ready to plop out a steamer and heave it at the screen. and there were a couple REALLY unnecessary slow mo spots that didnt reallt need them.

That barbarian at the start was Nathan Jones. I thought it looked like him from the clips they showed on Leno and also the movie but I wasn't sure.
