For modern controllers, this is a pretty big pile of shit--it has buttons on the ends of the handles (near your palms) that are hard as hell to hit without straining fingers. And the triggers have gun-like guards over them, which is just dumb as shit.
As for the Dual Shock, it is easily the best controller in existence. The d-pad would probably be better if it was webbed on top, but it's all connected underneath so it hardly matters. Only fighting game I'd rather play on anything else than a Dual Shock (not including arcade controls) is MvC2, and it's only because I'm used to playing it on Dreamcast after having been forced to when I travel.
Shoulder buttons > shoulder triggers for absolutely everything except racing games. Four shoulder buttons > two with six face buttons. And the analog sticks are pretty damned good. Xbox has the best I've ever used, but Dual Shock sticks are better than absolutely everything else. And of course, the Dual Shock's shape is easily the best.
There's a reason why there are a million Dual Shock-to-other-console converters, and none for the other controllers.
I use to smack that max pad on my knee to get it working because the buttons got kinda wonky on me.
