Your 10 Favorite Shows Evar!

Okay... at this moment, what are your top favorite shows of all time? List cartoons, anime series, I dont care. Go nuts. BUT IT HAS TO BE A TV SHOW! No miniseries or whatever! So that means no Band of Brothers!

01. The Sopranos - Simply the greatest show out there. I have all four seasons on DVD.
02. Simpsons - small disclaimer, though - ONLY seasons 2-7. The rest make me want to kill myself.
03. Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Undoubtedly one of the greatest shows there ever was, or ever will be.
04. Jackass - My deep dark secret is that I love Jackass. It's always been one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life. I would've given it a fucking Emmy, no doubt about it. Anyone know where I can get some torrents?
05. Seinfeld - somewhat uneven but Seinfeld at its best is great TV. But nowadays Kramer annoys me more than anything else. George makes up for it though.
06. Curb Your Enthusiasm - Ive only watched a bit but I really like what Ive seen, clearly, thats why its here.
07. The Dave Chappelle Show - its just THAT DAMN GOOD folks. Best sketch comedy show ever, Id wager, although Im not quite sure theyve topped the Grace Jones "I WANT ALLI-GATA!" skit from In Living Color... okay, they did. With the Pee on You video.
08. MacGyver - gotta give it props.
09. Jeopardy - Okay, weird choice, but I watched this all the time as a kid, and even to this day I still watch it once or twice a week. It has contributed a lot to my thirst for knowledge and general worldliness. I plan on being on it one of these days.
10. Behind the Music - Okay I havent watched this in a long long time but it was more addictive than crack when I used to watch it. We're talking, 7 or 8 hours in a row.

Honorable mention goes to Double Dare, because they ran through a fucking ear to get a flag. AN EAR!

And I know a lot of you have watched a lot more TV than me, so weigh in or die.

I like watching Jeopardy a lot too, actually. That and Futurama. Nothing else immediatly springs to mind.

Humm, I'm not sure I have 10 to list but I'll try,

Globe Trekker. This is currently the only show I go out of my way to watch.

Frontline. If there's anything else currently that I'll make a mental note to see it will be this.

NFL Broadcasts: not quite a TV show but I likes football. Too many commercials though.

Futurama. Funny.

Mystery Science Theatre 3000. I used to stay up late to catch this on brodcast TV many moons ago. Brilliant stuff.

Monty Pythons Flying Circus. I've never seen it brocasted, only on DVD, but it's a TV show and I like it.

Family Guy. Funny,

The Simpsons. Season 4 was thier best. I stoped watching at or during the 8th season.

Seinfield. I catch this every so often and is usually compelling enough to watch.

I used to watch Nova al the time as well, though for some reason I don't much anymore. It comes on in the daytime for one... I almost never watch daytime TV these days.

1. Dragnet (67-70) - I loved watching it a decade or so ago, and still love it to this day.
2. Get Smart - See Above
3. Dick Van Dyke Show - ditto
4. Mork and Mindy - Robin Williams was brilliant, funny, and made the show a blast to watch.
5. Inspector Gadget - Don Adams' voice was perfect for the role, and it's basically Get Smart in animation form, great stuff.
6. The Simpsons - Although the earlier seasons have more great episodes than most current ones, they all have at least three or four fantastic ones. The show's fantastic casting helps it remain at least watchable, even during the worst shows. Although "Dude, Where's My Ranch" is the one possible execption.
7. Taxi - The entire cast had great chemistry, and pretty much every episode was a hoot. Christopher Lloyd was brilliant, as was Andy Kaufman. Classic show.
8. Dragnet (50s' version) - I'm amazed at what they got away with back then (an episode on child molestation, for example) and the acting, just like it was with the later Jack Webb incarnations, was realistic.
9. Futurama - Great voice cast, insane, funny plots. Dazzling animation, just an all-around fantastic show.
10. Tough call here, I'll go with...the Mary Tyler Moore show - The acting was a bit over-the-top, but the characters were funny, and somewhat believable in spite of the acting. Enjoyable show usually.

24. Well, season 1 and 2 of it.

In no order:

Chappelle Show: I fucking love this show. I think Chappelle is one of the funniest comics today and his show just proves it. Everything he talks about makes me laugh.

Futurama: possibly my favorite animated show to date. I love all the characters, the animation is stunning and there are a ton of great episodes.

South Park: The writing on this show is unreal. With such a fast turn around on making an episode (around 5 days to animate) they can do a show fast enough where the topic is running on the latest fucked up event in the world. Some foul language mixed with great characters has really changed what we see on tv. Also, the movie ruled.

American Chopper/Monster House/Monster Garage- My guilty pleasure. I'll lump 'em together because I can. I love seeing shit built and cars/houses/motorcycles are cool. Plus it's often funny and you can see people get pissed and yelled at.

Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn- a new favorite. A great idea (politics/current events and comics) that's often really funny and I like Quinn. Good shit, check it out if you haven't seen it.

Family Guy- it has it's ups and down but it's a great show. A mash between futurama and south park.

Malcom in the Middle- I've watched from the beginning and have seen just about all of them. Really well made show that's a fun ride with all the fucked up characters. Classic disfunctional family tv.

Most Extreme Elimination Challenge- it's perfect for when nothing better is on, or you're with friends, partying, whatever. People getting hurt is funny and the dub makes it even better. I want to see more Japanese game shows.

Nip/Tuck- God damn I love this show. Super high production values, great cast, awesome idea, fucked up plots, my "drama" pick. I can't wait for season 2. I'm hooked.

Cowboy Bebop- to round it out I'll include this. Hands down my favorite anime. Again, awesome characters and writing. Quality dub, awesome animation and style, and music and direction that is often inspiring (I'm thinking of the church scene in Ballad of Fallen Angels to be specific). I wish it was a longer series.

Batman: TAS is a good mention. I'd agree with MacGyver too. I was thinking of what a bitch it must have been to write for that show. First you gotta figure out a good (and new) way to get him stuck, and then get him out of using only a snorkle, and water melon and a tuning fork. Got some scientists working on that show. Catchy theme song too.

Futurama - Best show ever. Not a single bad episode.

The Simpsons - While its pretty hit and miss nowadays, it is a part of me. I grew up with it, and continue to watch it.

The Maxx - The characters are complex and colorful, the art is amazing, and the story line is awesome. It is animated perfection.

Seinfeld - One of the only good sitcoms ever.

Astroboy - my god, everything about this show is great.

X-Files (minus the no-mulder parts) - A really great show that I used to love.

Evangelion - It has everything, from fucked up kids to giant robot fighting.

That 70's show - The only sitcom I currently watch. Fucing funny as.

The Late Show (Aussie comedy show) - Funny shit.

The Medical Detectives - The most interesting documentary series on TV. It's like CSI but real.

1. Angel - Easily the best show on TV, the last episode even had Spike Playing MAME on his Xbox :p
2. Firefly - It's a damn shame this was so short lived, I can't wait to see the Movie
3. Family Guy - Best Cartoon ever
4. South Park - Trey & Matt are fantastic at the suttle messages in these shows.
5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer - It would be higher on my list but it kinda went downhill from season 4 on.
6. Simpsons - A classic
7. Futurama - If only it was given a bit more time to grow
8. Jackass - Pure genius, make all kinds of money doing something thousands of kids have been doing off camera for years.
9. Star Trek Deep Space Nine - Best of the Star Trek universe, the war at the end of the series kicked all kinds of ass
10. Dragon Ball - I fucking love this series, it's a shame DBZ was so horible.

Honorable mention definitely goes to Tough Crowd for their incredible openness and lack of discrimination about who they make fun of... I love it. There're even black people jokes made by Irish guys!! Where else do you see shit like that? It's beautiful. If you can make fun of one ethnicity or culture, you should be able to do them all.

Oz- brutal, unpredictable, funny and totally entertaining. Any show about murderers and drug addicts that can still make you feel for the characters is a great show.

Star Trek: The Next Generation- Started out slow in the first season, but it ended up pwning the original series, which was great itself.

Most Extreme Elimination Challenge- Just totally nuts. Watching Japanese people kill themselves in every event never gets old. And while some people hate it, I love the dub.

Win Ben Stein's Money- Great concept for a show...you're playing to win 5 grand of the host's actual salary. Ben Stein is an absolutely brillant human being, and it was nice to finally see him break from his "Bueller...Bueller" character. The show was cool when Jimmy Kimmel was his co-host, but I really dug Nancy Pimental, mainly due to her banter with Ben, but also because she was damn cute. The show kinda when downhill when she left and they brought in the Kimmel-wannabe Sal Iacono, who sucked balls.

The Simpsons- I have to agree with Diff, however...only seasons 2-7. They're brilliant. Not the first season because the show was still coming together and nothing after 7...the show needs to die now.

The Man Show- ONLY the Kimmel/Carolla version. The new guys blow.

Wrestling- Watched it since I was a kid. I...I can't stop!

Married... With Children- Whoa, Bundy! Got really stupid right near the end but it was still funny.

The Kids in the Hall- Best sketch comedy show ever.

Jackass- Hilarious. Watching these people destroy themselves is always fun to watch.

Christ, how did I let Conan not get listed? And The State. I loved the State (take that kids in the hall).

there certainly needs to be more ALF love. i know you all watched it.

The Shield - one of the most intense cop shows I've ever seen. The characters are great and the drama just keeps piling on.

Simpsons - While latest seasons have been terrible, it was the greatest show on Television and for those episodes it belongs in a top 10.

South Park - the most intelligent satire on TV today. The show really got on a roll in season 3 and just gets smarter each season.

MST3K - A brilliant idea that will probably never be properly replicated again.

Chappelle Show - I wasn't expecting much when it was first advertised, but it's been the one of the most consistenly funny sketch comedy shows ever.

Red Dwarf - Classic BBC Sci-Fi/Comedy.

Monty Python - Nothing really needs said on this.

Malcolm in the Middle - A show that amazingly has yet to have a single bad episode.

Beavis and Butthead - Excellent satire that is even funnier now that I'm old enough to understand it.

Daily Show - Jon Stewart is a funny, funny man.

I CAN'T believe I forgot Parker Lewis Can't Lose.

What a great show.

Honorable mention goes to Kids in the Hall, Upright Citizens Brigade, Sopranos, Family Guy, Futurama, Star Trek TNG and 24.

I used to love Parker Lewis Can't Lose. I haven't seen that in a long time. Remember when Doogie (sp?) Howzer M.D. was cool? Or how about that show where the kids sister was a robot? That was a weird show.

OH! And most recently, Greg the Bunny was an awesome show and Andy Richter Controls the Universe was THE shit. I loved that show. God damn Fox.

Station, I love Keeping Up Appearances, such a hilarious show. I prefer Are You Being Served to it though, but both are great.

I was a car-nut when I was a little kid. I had hot wheels for miles and more micro machines (IFITDOESNTSAYMICROMACHINESTHENITSNOTTHEREALTHING!!!) than walmart. One day at our local weird video place where all my friends work now. I was with my mom and I was picking out a cartoon to rent. On the cover of one of the boxes I saw the sexy roadster (which i later found out was called the Rockn' Roadster) and based on that alone I got my mom to rent it. Come to find out the show is halarious and the music videos in each episode kick ass. Then I forgot about Jem for a long time. Soooo recently the video store was getting rid of old crap and I found the Jem tapes in the back room. I took the ratty tapes and watched all of them and fell in love with the show once again. Some of the situations that the characters are in is really unusual for a kid's show. Jerrica owns a music company, has a computer that can make her become the rock star Jem and only her band knows that she's Jem. Jerrica's boyfriend never knows that Jem = Jerrica and the whole show revolves around her boyfriend being torn between the two girls. As Jem when she's about to kiss him....she says something like "Jerrica won't mind...." and then they suck face. It was the best (if only) music related cartoon ever. I'll save the rest for the thread I'm gonna make when the dvd comes out :p

I used to rent Jem tapes from Erol's all that time back when I was a youngin', saw some clips from it on an I Love the '80s Strikes Back thing and it brought back some memories. Such a hilarious concept, and it has some decent animation as well if memory serves.

So it's 12, big deal? :)

1. Futurama - Funniest show alive. Some of the best humour found anywhere. Some 2 part jokes carry throughout the episode and you have to watch multiple times to pick up on them sometimes.

2. Seinfeld - Funniest show alive.

3. Firefly - Greatest sci-fi ever. Blow Star Trek out of the water.

4. The Simpsons - The earlier seasons were golden. The newer ones are just mindless funny with little story. But still kick 10x the ass of most shows.

5. Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Very good drama's and well written. I personally like Angel better (Season 4 was weird) but it's all very lovely. This is technically 2 shows but they go together so I listed them together.

6. Curb Your Enthusiasm: Funny yet unique show. People compare it to Seinfeld, and it's a fair association, but it is definitely NOT Seinfeld. Some people don't get that. Some people are idiots.

7. The Sheild: Never liked a police drama but this one changed it for me. The cops were doing things that weren't straight and it is all done up in a compelling showcase.

8. The King of Queens - Kevin James (the comedian)'s show is really great. Jerry Stiller plays Arthur on the show, so you KNOW this show is going to be on the positive end of awesome. James (Doug) has a unique brand of comedy that lends itself well to funny situations and characters. I really enjoy it, it's truly one of the best sitcoms around.

9. Samurai Jack: One of the best cartoons ever. People on this board said "It was too designed or stylized or conscious of its style" and that's the dumbest set of words to ever be typed out. You can't be conscious, and it certainly isn't bad that a cartoonist took the time to stylize his work and render it further than others would.

10. Conan O'Brien - Funniest talk show. No explanation needed.

Get Smart, Malcolm in the Middle, and Keeping Up Appearances should be on my list too. I'll call them runners. EDIT: Took MXC off the list to replace it with the King of Queens.

The Drew Carey show was great at first, but then the Mimi-Drew back-and-forth got really lame and the entire show focused on how much beer they brewed in his basement and how stupid Oswald was. Then it got shitty.

Some of the shows on these lists are, ahem...suspect. Chappelle's Show? Come on, guys.

My list (somewhat comedy-heavy):

1. The Simpsons: Best sitcom of all time. Seasons 1-7 are genius, 8-9 are spotty, the rest are utter shit. Not enough people appreciate the first season; it's got a lot of humanity and depth that later seasons abandoned in favor of elaborate satire and reference-heavy humor. Not better or worse necessarily, just different.

2. The Office: Along with Curb Your Enthusiasm, one of the most creative, funny, and envelope-pushing sitcoms in recent years.

3. Curb Your Enthusiasm: Haven't seen many episodes of this, but it's damned good.

4. SNL: Not as good as it once was, but it continues to have a huge effect on popular culture and serves as the proving ground for tomorrow's comic geniuses.

5. SCTV: Often times more funny than SNL, it never lasted long enough to top it.

6. Kids in the Hall: Best "absurd" comedy show ever. Pity its stars haven't really amounted to much.

7. The Sopranos: Best dramatic series ever made.

8. Star Trek: TNG: I liked DSN but never enjoyed it quite as much as TNG. The cast and writing really came together to make this the best ST series of them all.

9. Cheers: From the same producing team responsible for Taxi, the Simpsons, and countless other shows, for years this was the archetypal sitcom. The Simpsons and others have since surpassed it, and it has aged a little bit (not as badly as the Cosby Show!), but it's still classic TV.

10. L.A. Law: I have a lot of personal affection for this show. The writing was really clever, it laid the foundation for half the successful comedies AND dramas on TV today, and there were some great surprise plot twists (Rosalind Shays falling down the elevator shaft!).

i honestly dont watch regular tv very much anymore, but this is off the top of my head

1.) Twin Peaks - the best thing that has ever been on television, even if it got kind of lousy for awhile in the second season

2.)The Office - The funniest "mockumentary" i have seen, and with great acting/characters

3.)Ren and Stimpy - If not THE best, this is definitely one of the top american cartoons in decades. Unfortunately, a lot of crappy shows seem to continue to try to follow in its foot steps to this day. And the new episodes arent really included

4.) Kids in the Hall - I admit this show can be very hit or miss, but at least one sketch a show is funnier than anything else on TV. Even when it isnt funny its still usually creative enough to be interesting.

5.) The Simpsons - I don't watch it anymore, but even the more recent episodes ive seen, which are terrible compared to the show in its prime, are pretty well written, if silly. I have to give credit where it is due.

6.) The Larry Sanders Show - Er, I just think Gary Shandling and the rest of the cast are really funny in this. It's just a great show. Much, much better than curb your enthusiasm if you ask me

7.) Star Trek - It's hard to pick just one. I'm not a huge Star Trek fan, but this and the next generation, and even deep space nine are all great. I still prefer the original cast and i think the campiness has aged quite well, so im just putting on the original series.

8.) Six Feet Under - Kind of a guilty pleasure. I kind of lost track of it after the second season, but at least up until that point it was really addicting.

9.) Roseanne - I used to watch this a lot when I was younger for some reason, and it's definitely one of the better sitcoms in my opinion.

10.) Lupin the Third - This show has so much energy. It's just really, really entertaining most of the time.

I always wanted to get into this show, but I never did. Do they play reruns? is there a DVD set? Did anyone rip it and put it on Bittorrent? Etc.

The show is in syndication, my local Fox affiliate airs it quite often.

Hmm yeah, I'm not sure about now, but Bravo used to show reruns, but I just checked their website and it doesn't seem like they're showing it at all at the moment. I watched reruns on HBO Signature for awhile too.

Jerrica's boyfriend never knows that Jem = Jerrica and the whole show revolves around her boyfriend being torn between the two girls. As Jem when she's about to kiss him....she says something like "Jerrica won't mind...." and then they suck face. It was the best (if only) music related cartoon ever. I'll save the rest for the thread I'm gonna make when the dvd comes out :p

I forgot that I used to really, really like the Wonder Years.

This isn't really a definitive list, since this is just the first things that come to mind:

10. Adventures of Batman and Robin - Pretty much every 1990's - Present Batman cartoon ruled, but this was the start of it all.

9. Red Dwarf - One of the best things to come out of Europe.

8. Farscape - Great show, high production values and excellent plotlines make for a winner.

7. Stargate SG1 - I used to think this show was crap, but like a lot of tv shows, once I started to watch it on my own time once it hit syndication I was able to appreciate how good it really was.

6. Star Trek TNG - The king of the Treks. Let me say this right now, all the other Treks are shit, fucking horseshit. The original is old and shitty, everything about it is crap. DS9 is awful, not a single person on that show can act (Avery Brooks or whatever Sisko's name is, is the worst actor on the planet, his delivories are so wooden and stilted you might as well toss a chair into a room and pin a captain's badge on it), which wouldn't matter anyway because all the characters are bland and crappy (except for O'brien, Colm Meany owns), not to mention all the lame ass religious episodes (who fucking cares about this shit?), and they wasted so much time on the fucking Ferengis it makes me sick. Quark sucks, and so does his brother, his mother, the grand magus, and that asshole ferengi that kept fucking around with Quark - What a waste of time. Then we get to Voyager, which I know sucks balls, but I still like it better than anything thats in DS9. And finally there's enterprise, which is so uncompelling, it isn't worth watching at all.

5. Scrubs - A new comer, but this show really speaks to me. Its hilarious and has a heart.

4. Sienfeld - No explination needed.

3. News Radio - Best sitcom ever, funniest ensamble cast of all time.

2. X-Files - PreDogget years.

1. The Simpsons - In it's prime of course.

Runners up are a ton of cartoons and shit.


P.S: Alf is one of the worst shows in the history of television. That shit does not stand the test of time at all. The fact that they brought him back to do phone ads is an affront to good taste.

I agree with the ST:TNG assessment.

I also agree about News Radio, so long as we're talking about the episodes before Phil Hartman's death. As much as I like Jon Lovitz, he couldn't carry that weight.

i would agree with this, Mike meyers and chris farley were some good recent ones, but it also tends to send a lot of crap ones out too, but it definitly is a good launching pad. The best part for me was the news, Which news do you think was the best? outside of the first guys(whose names escape me) i thought kevin nealon was inconsistent, but he had some great moments, colin quinn had brilliant delivery and i think he was my favorite, but i have to say, while i dont like jimmy fallon in sketches, him and tina fey have a good chemistry, and i love the joke off segments with the bell. Dennis miller and norm never really resonated with me.

i also forgot to mention on my list one of my favorite shows of the current generation
buffy the vampire slayer-tremendous sense of humor, well choreographed martial arts segments, some good story arcs, i was a little annoyed that they turned willow gay(had a major crush on the character), and made her too assertive, since part of her charm was the one liners she had when she said things in that unsure voice mand had soem brilliant spoonerisms. they just too her charm out and made her another tough butt kicker, also tara was the jar-jar binks of the show. It did jump the shark when dawn came in, but before that the show was brilliant.

how can you people hate ALF? the later episodes went down hill, but the show is still a classic. I rewatchced a bunch on Nick at night a few years ago and thought it was just as funny as it used to be.

And SNL, while it has it's ups and downs, is still one one of the top comedy shows. Think of all the awesome quotable skits they've done - celebrity Jeopordy, mr. peepers, Matt Foley, anything with Will Ferrel, etc... I do wish Jimmy Fallon would get kicked off the show already, he's not funny and he can't keep a straight face. Best news was definatly either Kevin Nealon or Norm McDonald.

Another forgotten show - Mr.Belvedere kicked so much ass. (this could just be nostalgia though).

i liked DS9, it got a lot better, but by then everyone had stopped watching it. :(

Hm, tough to say. Fallon and Fey are really great, probably the best since Dennis Miller. Kevin Nealon is highly underrated, Chevy Chase massively overrated, Dennis Miller probably best overall, and the rest falling in the undistinguished middle (although Colin had some good moments). Anyone else remember the real oddball ones, like Charlie Rocket and Brian Doyle Murray?

the odd thing about Norm is that most people just don't get his jokes. I don't think he got through a single News segment without at least one awkward pause where no one laughed (even if the joke was gold). But that's part of what made it so funny. Norm is just Norm, and he's hilarious no matter what he does.

Fair enough. But hey, calling Chappelle's Show the best sketch comedy show ever is not idle praise. It's like calling Nickleback the greatest band in the history of rock; people who know anything about music are going to look at you funny.

Besides, I'm less interested in looking at lists of people's favorite TV shows than I am at putting together a list of the great comedy shows of all time.

Don't get me wrong, I like Dave Chappelle. He's a good comedian. But he's got a long way to go before he can even come close to matching the greats.

I hear you. Some of skits, though, have been some of the funniest things Ive ever seen on TV: The R Kelly Pee on You video, the Roc-a-Pads, and the Redman toilet bowl cleaner come to mind immediately. Plus, there's classic lines.... "I'm rich, bee-yotch!".

The show is probably too early in its run to put it at, say, ILC, but its oozing potential.

Chappelle is on my list because I look foward to seeing it every week, and if I miss it, I'm pissed. A show that does that definitely deserves a spot on my list. Besides this isn't a "greatest comedy list" anyway.

Okay, I downloaded some Jackass episodes, and I loaded up the first one, and the opening sequence isnt even over, and Im already in tears (22 seconds in). I may have to move this show up a few notches.

true, i was just getting at some of my favorite recent ones, the overall list would obviously be more robust, as you can kind of tell by the bang up proof reading job i did, there was time issues involved with the post.

And as for colin, i liked his delivery, i particlualry like how he often saved a bad joke just by his reaction to the audiences non-reaction, norm and kevin would often just let it sit in awkward silence,and dennis seemed too concieted to understand that the joke bombed, so i thought norm's recoveries were great. but colin had a kind of quick "everyman" delivery that caught you more off guard when he went for high concept jokes in a way dennis never seemed to be able to.

Hmm i'm only going to list a few:
1) The Shield - The show is just incredible IMO. Great story, intense plot twists with a rowdy bunch of characters = entertainment. I like the subject matter a lot and to some degree it's very true to life.

2) Seinfeld- Nuff said, classic show.

3) Simpsons- Agree with others, seasons 2-7 were excellent, everything else was shit....the show need to just stop NOW.

4) Sopranos - Excellent depiction of mob lifestyle.

can't really decide which others to add.

strangely enough, i nearly put that down. i always thought it was funny that their magic items were kind of weak when you thought about it, outside of the ranger's bow and the barbarian's club,and maybe the mage's hat, none of them were that impressive. but for its time it was cool, i actually have a "choose your own adventure" book that i got long ago where you played the cavelier's younger brother and rescue a golden dragon.
