That was one of my problems with it as well. Jackson couldnt decide on what ending to keep so he stuck them all at the end.
And as with other extended editions of LOTR, its better to wait for the one released later.

I thought the ending was kind of short. Although they may come from reading the scouring of the shire a dozen or so times.
The ending was too short, I think. There was still some things unresolved, like what Legolas and Gimli end up doing. I don't know if it was even brought up in the book, as I haven't read that far into FOTR even.
The only criticism I could give is the way the editing was, each scene looked like it was the last one, only to be followed by another scene. The white-outs, the wide panning shots, etc. If he edited the ending to each of those scenes without those devices we normally associate with the movie ending, no one would be complaining, I think.
I still loved it. He can keep it for all I care.

I can't wait for the EE. Did it take the first two EEs so long because they wanted to coincide with the release of the next movie, or because they were still working on extras? Because it would be great if RotK comes out earlier than usual.
I think it's because they were working on extras. I read an article after TTT came out in theaters about them still filming footage for the TTT:EE, so I'm guessing the EEs add a couple months extra production after the theatrical release.
I think the main problem people have with the ending is the tearful goodbye to Frodo at the Grey Havens. I'd imagine any who doesn't care about the characters would probably be uncomfortable at that point. Then again, you just sat through 3 and a half hours with these people, if you're still around you probably give a shit.

I realise they brought the ring to the mountain, though, didn't cast it in, and they are heroes, but, a little on the rest of the people in the movie would have been cool.
My brother is illiterate and had no idea what the hell happened to most of them at the end of the movie.
The book never says in teh actual story where Legolas and Gimli go and what becomes of them, but if you will look in the appendecies, it tells you in Appendix B under tale of the years in between the Third and Fourth Ages that Legolas builds a boat and is rumored to have taken Gimli with him across the Great Sea. They were the last of the Fellowship to leave Middle Earth (everyone else had died or sailed already.)Quote:

Checked The Digital Bits today. There's a listing at the official LOTR site for the ROTK dvd for summer. Also, a LOTR trilogy box set in 2005, which is rumored to have an extra disc of cut scenes that didn't get put back in the extended cuts.
