Hard to Find/Rare Dreamcast Games - Domestic and Imports

Let's hear em! What games for this beloved system have you had trouble tracking down be it imports or Domestic? Maybe we can point each other in the right direction!

I've gotten most of the Domestic games DC relased I want. Interesting to note that there are still stores online that sell sealed DC games, but of course key titles are missing.

I did unfortunetly aquire one of the lowest print run DC games, new a year or so back called Urban Chaos - A total waste of $10 IMO.

There's a local store that gets in DC imports they don't price them so you just ask, out of pure luck I found a Twinkle Star Sprites two weeks ago, the clerk didn't know what it was, I pointed he said "the one with the girl on the cover?" I nodded and the rest is history, the other stock seems to be way overpriced. I saw that they had a PS2 game stepping selection sealed for $165.95 or something, but I don't know much about PS2 imports it just seemed high.

Never have a seen the Maraccas for sale even when the DC was still healthy, quite a toughie to locate.

So whatcha been looking for?

I have seen literally mountains of Maraccas at Frys (in San Diego) years ago.... I don't know if they ever sold them all tho.

I passed up on 2 new sets of Maraccas late in the systems life for about $25 each. I'm still kicking myself over that one.

i bought the maraccas new the day they came out. cost me $100 at Game Express. :\ found some DC games cheap as hell though at FYE. Mars Matrix for $5, Sword of the Berserk for $2. both new.

I haven't gotten a legit version of TSS yet... but I haven't actually tried too hard.

DC games are not hard to come by right now... in a few years its gonna be hell.

Segagaga and Lack of Love seem to both be very difficult to get ahold of.




Cosmic Smash is also a rarity.




For the US I believe Mars Matrix, Record of Lodoss War, and Giga Wing 2 are the rarest, each with pressings of 5000. Project Justice and Street Fighter III Third Strike could possibly go in that list as well.


Oh, Twinkle Star Sprites is also fairly rare. As is Cotton Rainbow.

Rainbow cotton is a piece of shit... its rare because everyone that bought it threw it in the trash.

Segagaga got a re-release.

MVC2 is a bit hard to find, even after its release on other consoles. I've been having a tough time locating Zero Gunner 2 (?) and Fighting Vipers 2.

I believe that Bangai-O is also a rarity...

Confidnetial Mission US was like in stores, one week and I
have yet to see a sealed copy come up at a decent price.

And regardless of the re-release, Segagaga is still fairly difficult to find, even though I know of store that has a copy. But still.

CM is one I'm kicking myself for not getting. I've been lucky with DC games though, thanks to Replay having a great selection of stuff when I've gone there, such as Marvel vs. Capcom 2, for $15 or so. Right now, I just need to get MSR, Floigan Brothers, and a few 2D fighters for my DC, otherwise, my 30+ game collection for it is done. Not counting any import stuff though, where there are only a few things I want.

For some reason I never picked up Cannon Spike. Not sure if it sucks or what but I did want to give it a go, due to all of the Capcom cameo goodness.Havent seen it in the cheap bins recently , although I havent really been looking to be honest,but hopefully one day Ill run across it.

CS is one that I thought would be rare, and snatched up at release, plus, it was only something like $20-$30 when it first came out, which added some incentive towards getting it then. Fun game, one of the few shooters where I can see everything going on and enjoy it.

On the JP side of things...Cleopatra Fortune.

Others; Panzer Front, Bomber Hehhe, SGGG D-Direct box set, Gigawing 2, Gundam Federation vs Zeon DX, Twinkle Star Sprites, De La Jet Set Radio (2nd), Last Blade 2 (2nd), Musapey's Choco Marker.

Chu Chu Rocket is totally rare.

What about Rez? Can't find that game new or used, in any store that still carries DC games.

I'm not sure how rare some of these games are, but I've had zero success finding a reasonable price ($10-$20) for any of them.

I thought it was 15,000 units each. I picked up a couple of spare Record of Lodoss War and Bangai-o's from a Walmart store last year. They were selling them for $10 each. I know one place that has GigaWing 2. It's a Toys R Us, and they refuse to drop the price below $50. Looks like I'll give in eventually and buy it.


I'd have to say that the Bleemcast disks are the rarest. Luckily I picked all of them up, but it's more of a personal thing, then any possibility of them being worth anything.

the way most people look at dreamcast games in the store, you'd think it had the AIDS or something. If I weren't so cheap, i would buy that extra copy of Record of Lodoss War too. Now that i think about it, my tax return comes in monday...........

I've been lucky to find most of the rare games I've wanted at a very small local pawn shop. I don't know who is trading them in, but when I can pickup Gigawing 2, Mars Matrix, Project Justice, and Sword of the Berserk for ~ $5 each I'm happy. They look like crap, but they play and they're cheap.

Saw a Third Strike on Ebgames.com for $14.99 a week ago, but by the time I went to check out someone else had snagged it.

The gameplay, story, presentation, and music are all AAA quality. 'nuff said.

That's such horseshit. I got GW2 and Mars Matrix on their respective release dates for $20 each. One was at Software Etc/Babbages, the other at FuncoLand. They were released as budget titles, so TRU is going waaaaaay overboard on the price there.

A lot of the Japanese games being listed as rare here weren't actually that had to find for me while I was over there. Well, in late 2002 most were easy, but by June 2003 when I returned, Dreamcast games were getting slightly harder to find.

For me, the one game that I never, ever found while I was over there was Twinkle Star Sprites. I really, really want that game still, and I was looking for it every time I went out. Space Channel 5 Part 2 I only really saw once... should have grabbed it when I did. Other than those two, I think I ended up finding pretty much everything I was desperate for. Super Puzzle Fighter 2 was off and on - sometimes it wasn't around, then it would be again.

Videogamedeals has Project Jusice and Puzzle Fighter 2 for forty each. PJ seems to have sold out recently, though.

Power Stone 2 used to go for a nice chuck of change.

I just was looking thru my DC games and found a very rare title. Midways Aracde Classics with Paperboy and 720 being the highlights. I swore they were gone in a week and the staff at EB didn't know what they were, rare maybe? As for being worth something I dunno? Keep an eye out for that one too.

I've got that Midway Arcade Collection thing, and while it's been rare since it's release, it's never really been worth much money due to it being a port of a PSX collection, plus, the Midway Arcade Treasures packs kind of negate it. Jetman, Cannon Spike does have some unlockables, like characters and art galleries, and the core game is pretty fun just as long as you keep play sessions short. It's pretty much the definitive $20 game.

Seriously, if there's a decent list of Japanese DC games that you want, the cheaper way to do things would be to just get yourself a plane ticket to Japan and look there. *heh* I picked up my Card Captor Sakura and Sakura Taisen Online Puzzle whatnot LE boxes for $5 each, and I know there were others for that price, such as the Eternal Arcadia ones. DC Twin Sticks were $2.50, but sadly I had to dump the set I picked up because I just had no room left in my luggage. Another good example was the Suzuki Yu book + disc, which could be hard to find, but when I did, it was always $10. Barring brand new games, most games could be picked up for $20 for in-demand games, or far less for non-demand games. (Such as the copy of Virtua Striker 2, I think it was, that I picked up for $.08) There were of course a few exceptions, like Ikaruga, which I think I paid $39 for used.

Of course, by the nature of the game, this is how it works for us outside Japan - Japanese games that are rare or expensive for us typically aren't once you're actually inside the country. So if you've got a long list, do yourself a favor and just fly over there with a nice big (and empty) suitcase. Of course, you can also enjoy a bit of seeing Japan while you're there as well, and maybe stash away yourself a Japanese schoolgirl in your suitcase along with the games. *heh*

Oh, and while Rainbow Cotton is a bit ass, I still got some enjoyment it. It would have been a billion times better had it controlled like Space Harrier, however.

anyone have the Record of the Lodoss wars demo GDRom they gave out at TGS? i have the disc, but not the sleeve it came in. can anyone help?

Yes they are! I once owned GigaWing 2, until someone broke into my apartment about 2 years ago. It's the one title I never replaced. I believe I picked up my first copy for under $30. I did score another Mars Matrix though. :D

The JP version was rereleased a few months ago, that's the one I picked up. Goes for thirty most places. It's a killer game, my friends and I play it alot.

Hmm the hardest domestic DC game for me to find was Tokyo Extreme Racer 2. I only saw it once in a store and I snagged it. I picked up another copy recently on gtz.com... It's kind of getting hard top find a decent DC game used thats in good condition.

Power Stone 2 isn't really worth it even if it's rare. It's fun when it's 3 players or more but I personally think the first one is way better.

I've gotten all the rare games that I wanted so far maybe minus Mars Matrix and Sword of the Beserk.

It got a DriKore release so it's not rare anymore.

Puzzle Fighter is pretty rare and worth hunting down too. By far the best version of the game anyway.

I'm pretty sure based on numerous sources, the rarest (i.e. lowest print run + hardest to find, NOT most in demand) US DC games are, in order of rarest to less rare:

Kao the Kangeroo
I-Spy
ECW Anarchy Rulz
Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2

then there's a bunch that are lass rare, or more indemand and just harder to find, etc.

I'm pretty sure The Lost Golem is pretty rare for a JP DC game, at least I heard it got a TINY print run, and it's actually a great puzzle game, and you know how often there are great puzzle games with small print runs around later ;)

It's a fucking Psikyo game, of course it's going to be short. Cannon Spikes replay value is the same as shooters, it's just a different format.

Kao's not that bad :D - it's a decent platformer, controlles are just a little slippery.....Aerowings is great though, and Rush is pretty good too......

Rush 2049 is fucking awesome. One of the best arcade racers, ever, and the DC version happens to be a nice arcade port (some framerate issues, but other than that, it's golden).

I can't believe I have all of the domestic stuff mentioned here other than SF3: Double Impact.

On the US front, I think Sports Jam is rare too, not that it's a worthwhile title to seek out or anything. *-neo

I picked up Aerowings 2 for $5 at the now dead [edit:]Music Warehouse. They had a bunch of those. I doubt anyone would care to blow a lot of dough on those titles.

project justice is good at any sub-40 price i thinks. Wonderful game mind you if you love simple fighters.

Zero Gunner 2 was never released to USA.

I don't think I've ever had any trouble finding a Dreamcast game. Oh, some might be a little spendy and all, but it's not like I had to hire Hercule Poirot to find them for me or anything. Any and all domestic releases come through ebay with frightening regularity and anyone that's been to Aki can find just about any JP release in one visit. There is no shortage of people who will go to Aki and sell you a JP release at a profit. I suppose it all boils down to how bad you really want it. If you're not willing to put in much effort, I suppose most Dreamcast games are hard to find since they're not very well represented in shopping malls.

The only game I had a hell of a time tracking down was Pop N Music 2. Took me quite a while to find and a friend of mine even had trouble spotting it in Japan a couple years ago. Who knows if it is still a pain to find. However, while it is hard to find, it's generally not that expensive. Likely due to the fact that its also available on Playstation.

Giga Wing 2 (JP) is the only one that comes to mind, I haven't seen one on ebay for a while now.

Haha, I have just about everyone of those, except for Rush, I'm happy that there was a clearance sale in February in China Town. SF3: Third Strike was 12$ and it had a small scratch on the case but on the side, so it's nothing big. Finding rare shit = victoly.

Really? I have four or five brand new ones. Want one? Plenty of mint condition Cool Cool Toon too. Every time I stop in at an American game shop I see piles of Typing of the Dead. I probably have a few of those here too. Send an email if you're in need.

typing of the dead is certainly not rare... sega made way too many copies of that.

I have had trouble finding the original japanese version of Berserk until a couple of months ago, when i found it on ebay along with an awesome art book (with original artwork for the game)..

Do you know if that was a pre-order thing or did the seller just throw it in for kicks? There's usually one copy up on ebay but I need my spinecard.
