What they don't tell you on the show, however, is that all the singers have to go through a first round of auditioning before they get on camera and visit Simon and co. They let a few bad singers through just for comedy value.
Which is the reason those crappy singers all think they're hot stuff; they've all passed through one round of judging so they figure they must be OK.
