Today I can officialy reveal to you another announcement that is to take place at this years E3

This is as follows:-

SEGA is to officialy announce that they are longer going to develope for the Xbox, games in production are going continue and be released, following their release no more games will be scheduled for the machine.

SEGA will then continue to allocate 60% of it's development resources for the PS2 and the remaining %40 for the Gamecube.

The software which is already available on Microsoft's machine will be ported over to either of the two systems.

Exactly which one will get which software is information which is not available at this moment in time but will be announced with the rest of the announcement at this upcoming E3.
This guy has been correct to me 80% of the time, so if he's wrong, I'm sorry for getting the hopes up of non XBox owners/scaring XBox owners.... Wait until E3 until we find out for sure! :)"

Bullshit. If they were to drop XBOX support, they'd surely not allocate nearly half of their support to the Gamecube wich isn't doing much better. Plus it's simply so early in the game.

Well, honestly I can understand porting GV and JSRF based on their poor sales. But to discontinue support period doesn't make sense. Sega's teams had the choice of which consoles to develop for, not to mention Sega and MS seem to have a good relationship. *-neo

If Sega was going to do this I doubt they would publicly announce that they will no longer make Xbox games, they would just stop making them. If they want Multiplatform might as well leave you with all the possibilitys. What if the Xbox has a huge surge or something and Sega already said they will no longer maked Xbox games, they will look like fools if they jump back on the Box. Fatbabies has never been in my opinion a good source what so ever, so I don't really belive it. Just seems stupid for Sega to say, "We will no longer make Xbox games." It would only hurt them I think, saying that that is, not acting on it though. If they stop making Xbox games, well I guess I don't really care, I own the other 2 systems, and will be buying an Xbox. E3 is going to be HUGE!

Its amazing how much everyone is quick to announce the death of a system, which for the most part is doing extremely well. My definition of well being a good line-up of games. Its amazing how many people want this damn thing to fail cause is it has microsoft on the box. Yet how many of you microsoft haters actually use UNIX/Linux/MAC??? Not many I am sure...

Competition is good for the industry. Sony needs a kick in the ass to change some of their game-related practices. I don't want Sony to go away from the industry, just change some of their practices.

I've never heard of a company announcing not making games for a platform. Still, given Sega's not-so-great sales on the Box, I wouldn't be surprised if they started supporting the other consoles more. It seems that every time I get psyched about the Box (re: price drop rumors) something else causes me to second-guess it.

I personally hate Microsoft, but I love videogames.

So, like a good little monkey, I bitched and bitched about MS, but as soon as JSRF came out, I was there buying it and my xbox. I personally don't want it to fail per-say, I just don't want it to do as well as any of the other consoles.

But as long as the xbox keeps getting games I want, I'll keep buying them. Sure I'll moan a bit that it's on a MS system, but my love for gaming will always bring me back if the xbox is getting good stuff.

btw: I'm typing this on a MS system, but a Mac is on my desk about two feet away from me! :D

Every Xbox exclusive they make is guarenteed not to be a million seller in japan (onsidering theyre just hitting 200,000 units in homes there)

to the comment about the GC not doing much better than the Xbox in japan the GC is outselling the Xbox but a few hundred percent every week that iw ould call doing much better

So far the games Sega has released on the GC have all sold really well both here and in Japan

personally though i dont think sega should go exclusive with any game
Sega is in a position where they need to make as much money as they can and reach as large an audience as they can
I personally think theyre games should if not hit all 3 platforms at least 2 of them

How can any of you guys believe that? Someone already mentioned that the SEGA dev. teams are autonomous, so how is it possible for SEGA to "allocate" it's resources at all? All "SEGA" is now is a room full of old men. The real SEGA is Hitmaker, Sonic team, Smilebit, Amusement Vision, et al.

Sega split 'em up, gave them complete control, sent them out into the world and said "Go make me some money!". This in itself makes it impossible for SEGA as a whole to shut out any one system. Individual teams might, but not the whole F'n company.

Sega was paid a large amount of money for five or more exclusive titles from the Japanese teams. Microsoft knew that the games would cause them to get a good image with the hardcore crowd.

Yu Suzuki has been vocal about how much he likes the GameCube better than the Xbox for development. (Interview) Yuji Naka loves the Cube for it's GBA linkup features. It's easy to see why Sega would devote a large amount to a system that is doing much better than the Xbox in terms of sales. (GC = 3/1 in Japan, 1/1 in US, and 2/1 in Europe)

However, I would bet that the news isn't true and is just your typical anti-Xbox jargon from Fatbabies posters. FYI, the man who posted that news also reported Enix and Rare have been bought out by Microsoft, and will be announced at E3.

Actually, Sega's teams are not completely autonomous. Yu Suzuki did not want to make Shenmue 2 for Xbox and was reported to be angry about it.

On the eve of E3, I see a string of unappealing games on the horizon, recycled ports and unconfirmed rumors. And a ergonomic oxymoron of a controller (the JP controller isn't much better).

There's only Sega. A number of sparse Sega offerings is the only reason the Xbox has caught my and many others' eye. I mean I'm dying to play Panzer Dragoon as much as the next Sega fan, but does a few Sega games warrant the purchase of a system that offers little else?

What else is there to look forward to on the Xbox? I'm trying to be as unbiased as possible on this subject, but it appears to me that the excitement in video games revolves around Sony and Nintendo. If there's something earth-shakingly exciting on the Xbox's horizon, please, enlighten me.

Not for a $300 asking price (especially when I have the option of playing the games on some friends' Xbox). Maybe $200 or $100.

Project Ego is worth the $300 alone. So is JSRF.

And that's the intent of the "announcement". I think it's BS. Wouldn't you think that if Sega was even threatening to pull out of the MS camp, MS would line some pocket books for additional support? This news would surely be a damaging blow to an already bad situation regarding the Xbox and I'm sure MS is smarter than to let Sega get away.

If Sega leaves XBox, then only the Sega supporters will be crestfallen. The only true deal in games is to follow whatever you find fun, be that it takes you to PS2, XBox, GC, SNES, Genny, DC - the platform doesn't matter. Likewise, a big name developer dropping ship on a console does not spell the end (tho I doubt it's true).

Interesting point, but it seems kind of irrelevant since the big exclusives are already a done deal. After being on shelves for one year, Xobx will have the received the following:

1. JSRF
2. GUNVALKYRIE
3. HOTD3
4. Crazy Taxi 3
5. Panzer Dragoon Orta
6. Shenmue II

That's a lot of exclusives for the first year. In fact, it's a lot even if no more are ever announced. More importantly, there are plenty of non-Sega exclusives (and good multi-platform) titles on the way.

well ... not the PS2. but Square definitly was instrumental in making Sony the power that it is in games now with the PSX.
I'd go as far as to say that if Square and Nintendo had kissed and made up, Nintendo wouldn't be seen as an underdog to Sony. it could easily be the other way around.
think about it, FF7 sold what ?, 7.1 million copies ? and FF8 sold like 9 million. ... for every finalfantasy there's atleast one PSX.

Lets face it. With SEGA, the xbox has decent(at best) Japanese support. without SEGA, what does it have? Not that I think SEGA will leave the xbox completely, but I just don't think people should be downplaying SEGA's importance to the xbox.

Really, what sence is it for Sega to devote recources to a trialing system. -that's why they stoped marketing their own.
After the contracted "exclusives", why would Sega bother developing games for X-box, after all it's tanking in their home market.
Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the only game likely to produce a near future surge in system sales in Japan one of Sega's own? -Panzer Orta. Jet Future didn't exactly sway the masses from PS2.
Personnally I think it makes perfect sence for Sega to get out and market to just two consoles.

••• About the rumour: Well, it obviously looks very dodgy considering the source and all. I am not going to believe anything without more proof or validation.

However, I would not be surprised if it did turn out to be true. I don't think SEGA would make a "big announcement" about this, but it could be revealed behind closed doors, or they could choose to make the announcement in a positive sense by "announcing their support for PS@ & GCN". It could very feasably happen, but I would not bet on it.


••• My personal feelings: I have not bought any of the new consoles yet.. and this is exactly the reason why! I want to see how things turn out first (and I keep buying tonnes of $5-20 DC games to tide me over).

Where I stand is that I think GCN is coolest console for my tastes... However, so far I think that Xbox has the best games (thanks entirely to SEGA tho!). So, I had been leaning towards getting an Xbox simply to play JSRF, Panzer, Gunvalkyrie, etc... I have no plans to buy one until after a significant price drop. Also, I want to wait a while to see how things shake down this summer. I'll probably buy a console around the holiday season.

If JSRF and PDO are anounced for GCN, say no more. I'm there. That's what I personally want to happen. If this turns out to be bunk, then I guess I am still leaning towards Xbox.

I certainly would not mind if they started packing in the "Controller S" when they drop the price either. :p

I don't think it's true, but oddly, I don't really care if it is true or not. Panzer Dragon Orta is all I want from Sega at the moment, and maybe House of the Dead 3. Only thing else I would want from them is a port of Virtual On Force. Sonic hasn't interested me since he turned 3D and the ressurection of their other franchises has me totally indifferent.

Yes, I bought an Xbox for JSRF, which was worth it if no other games ever came to the system, but Xbox is providing me buy-worthy games at a rate of at least 2 a month, stretching far into the future. Heck, I think the combination of Morrowind and Project Ego will be enough to keep me busy until Xbox 2. I might even take a break long enough to play Star Wars: KOTOR. :)

I love Sega, but they have never been the be all and end all of gaming, and they never will. I take the good games as they come and leave the worrying about developers and publishers to other people.

Saint of killers- As much as I love my Turbo and Saturn, both of those systems were soundly squashed...in the US at least and thus there were only two consoles competing.

Though I don't believe this I'm not going to discount it ethier. Remember Shemnue 2? A guy posted on the old boards that Sega was cancelling Shemnue 2 for DC. Not a single person replying to the thread believed him and many had some interesting comments. Wait til E3 and laugh it off if nothing materializes. *-neo

This would be the same OXM that proclaimed the Star Wars rpg to be the destroyer of Final Fantasy and the greatest rpg ever made, before any significant programming had even been done on it? Sorry, I like their writing, but those guys have been talking out of their asses since ODCM. I like Molyneux, but I don't think it's fair to say a game has been "made" when it's not due for release any time in the next 6 months...

Umm, yes it does. Heck, Morrowind was released 'mostly finished' since it has a myriad of bugs. 'not made' to me implies that it hasn't even gotten past the planning stages yet, which was what I thought he was implying.

And this was stated in an interview and not the opinion of OXM, though his statement that Project Ego will be 'the best RPG ever' is certainly an opinion.

GV and JSRF are some of the weakest sellers on xbox and everyone is implying that the xbox is doomed because a developer we happen to prefer leaves but yet its the developer of the least sold games on the xbox.

I find it hard to believe this rumour due to the fact that with each passing month they announce another game for it...

If anything it looks like Sega wants to stear clear of Sony, probably for obvious reasons, and put their games on either GC or XB.

The X-Box needs Sega Sports; Microsoft's first-party sports games are awful.

And what the hell? This is the first time I've heard about JSRF and GV's poor sales. It's not that surprising, but the X-Box supposedly has a high games sales to console sales ratio. What are people buying? I'd assume everyone has Halo and Dead or Alive 3 by now.

This sums up my feelings exactly. Sega was always quick to abandon their own systems. Why should it surprise anyone if they do the same to anyone else's? Aren't they up to their asses in debt?

Since Sega became the slut of the industry, I haven't really been paying attention to what their strategy is. I have all three systems, so I'll just buy the games I want when they're released. I'd like to see them stay with the 'box, but who can ever tell with Sega anyway?

A) I want everybody to stop being dumb.

B) Sega will make money making games for XBOX if Microsoft deems it in their best interest to sell systems. SO what if JRSF and Gun Valkyrie didn't sell well, all the SEGA heads bought the system and now they own it. Their task is done. Nobody expected them to be million sellers, they were just there to push the hardware. Trust me, M will make it up to them.

ALso there is NO reason for SEGA to jump ship. None. Everybody stop being foolish.

PS: I'll eat dirt and put up a pic for my new avatar of me eating dirt if SEGA makes that announcement at E3...

I seriously doubt Sega would simply cut support. I do however believe they will reduce X-box's exclusive titles and instead opt to put them across all 3 platforms. X-box simply isnt selling well WORLDWIDE. Jus because a system sells well here does not mean it will receives tons of support ex. N64.

Nothing can stop the Xbox, and there's no such thing as bad news. The Xbox is just selling poorly to lull Sony and Nintendo into a false sense of security.

Haha, very funny AFX. Remember people, almost ALL of Sega's games on the X-Box were being developed before the release of the system. The only thing that comes to mind that were recently announced were the sports titles and an online game or something. But I do think that this rumor is bogus; they'll just make less games for the system, not completely ignore it. We'll see when E3 rolls around.

Gah! I can't read all this crap but I gotta chime in. How can anybody want the Xbox to die? It's the most powerful system out there. The system developers can do the most with. Why would you wish power to be taken out of developers' hands? Be nice to the Xbox, m'kay?

Yeah, and Sega Sports is better. Wasn't always this way (sure wasn't back in the 16-bit era), but that's been the recent trend.

Regardless, the permanent absence of Sega's sports titles would make a significant dent in the X-Box's popularity amongst large sections of the mainstream gaming community, at least when compared to titles like Panzer Dragoon Orta.

I would just like to ask: For all of you who say the XBox has nothing good coming besides Sega games, you're all mech-game haters, right? Because the XBox has the most impressive lineup of up-and-coming mech games I've seen on any console in the entire history of gaming, with Tekki heading that lineup.

Even if Sega stopped (which they won't), there's still plenty for at least me to buy and hopefully enjoy on that puppy. But maybe that's just me.

If Tekki doesn't come to the US, complete with the controller of doom, you will see me weep like a wee baby. :(

I'm going to be all over Mecha Assault when it hits, online and off, and I'm chomping at the bit to see what From Software has in store (Is Frame Gride 2 too much to ask?). Throw in Gunmetal and likely to be the best version of Robotech while I'm at it.

Even outside of the mecha offerings, Xbox has plenty in store for the coming months, but they all might not jive with some people. The other systems also have games on the way, but none of them interest me in the least for some reason.

Though I think most people speak only after giving the release list a passing glance and don't consider games from developers they don't know as worthwile.

Heck, I'll buy the Buffy game if it turns out to be worth it, looking good so far, and I hate that damn TV show.
