It only sucks when EA does it. When SNK does it, it's awesome.Quote:

Go the CvS2 route, where you can select from one to three characters, and the more you select, the weaker each is. Keep some characters the same, rethink others. Fans of KoF have NINE games to play and enjoy - if they get pissed off by SNK totally reworking the KoF series, screw 'em.
I love and adore KoF, but for God's sake, the only difference anymore is a swap around of characters, new backgrounds, and a new outfit for Athena. For heaven's sake, at least give poor Yuri some decent clothing.
I dont think he was being serious but like Ive said in past threads... compare KOF '94 to Madden '94. Then compare Madden 2003 to KOF 2003. I dont think anyone would've had a problem if SNK did EA-style updating over the past decade.Quote:

First, I hope none of the changes that you hope for are ever installed. I just can't see them going that direction at all with any of the changes you mentioned.Quote:

Yeah, I agree that the game is mostly rehash characters, but you have to take the game for what it is. It's an episodic, anual tournament. It takes place in 3 chapter stories. I hope that the game is completely reworked in terms of appearance, but 2003 really revitalized the gameplay for me and I don't want the system to totally disappear. 13 character in a 3 on 3 game is absolutely ludicrous though.
The reasoning behind what you were saying didn't even seem like something you honestly believe, hopefully it isn't. I'm just responding because I hope that your opinions don't reflect the general tone of response that people are having to KOF2003 and KOF as a series in general.
I absolutely stand behind what I said. KOF, as we currently know it, is finished. Done. There's nothing left to be done. As I said, every year, the only thing that is different is who was brought back, what Athena is now wearing, and minor tweaks. I love KOF, but if you ask me what the difference between KOF '99, '00, '01, '02, and '03 is, know what I would say? Shermie came back in '02. Kyo has a fireball back in '03. Vanessa is gone in '03. Mai still sucks compared to what she was in '98. Strikers came and went.Quote:

People rip on Capcom for making a number of versions of SF2, but if you ask me, that's almost the exact same thing that is going on here. SNK takes the basic KOF game, makes a change here, a change there, tosses in new backgrounds, and calls it a day.
I want to see SNK put in some actual, honest to goodness work on a new KOF. SF3, love it or hate it, was an actual evolution from SF2. I want to see the same with KOF'04, especially as it will mark the 10-year point for the series. Ten years later, still giving us basically the same game is ridiculous.
I ALWAYS play KOF as a single-character game, so that's why I want to see the selectable amount of characters option in there. Graphics absolutely need to be updated. I love those sprites, dearly, but they have to go. I'm dying to see Kyo, Mai, Terry, Yuri, etc. in beautiful Guity Gear-esque glory. And really, some of those characters need updating, or total revamping. I'd like to see what they could do if they re-imagined some of those characters - sort of like what Falcoon did with his "KOF Other" artwork. Iori was great when he first appeared, but he needs an updated look. Same with Mai, same with Yuri, same with at least half the roster.
As well, dumping all of the characters, and then picking a small amount to start up again with, I think, would put more importance on who gets put in and why. Anymore, you've got so many characters that most get lost in the shuffle, and every year you add one or two new ones (most of the new characters in '03, IMHO, are utter ass), and you swap out a few old characters and bring back in a few old characters. I'd like to see the roster go small, so that time, energy, and care can be put into who is in the game. Don't just toss X characters a new move every other year, and then otherwise forget about them. Put care into who is in the game, why, how they play, etc.
I no longer care about KOF, but the prospect of a new Samurai Spirits and Metal Slug on Atomiswave is certainly grabbing my attention.
I doubt SNK would go through the trouble of switching to new hardware simply to recycle the same sprites on all their sequels, though I've been surprised before. They're simply going to have to invest at least SOME money in game development if they want to remain relevant.
Also, of note, it'll be the first time in a long time that SNK's games won't be instantly emulated the second they hit arcades. That'll certainly be a boost for the amount of money their Atomiswave games will generate in arcades. That's probably a contributing factor in their decision to begin to move away from the Neo-Geo lineup.
Um great, too bad arcades are non-existent 'round these parts.

About time, IMO.Quote:
SNK Playmore and Sammy announced today at the Amusement Expo 2004 in Japan that all future SNK arcade titles will be developed on Sammy's Atomiswave hardware. SNK announced three titles for Atomiswave - King of Fighters 2004, Metal Slug 6, and Samurai Shodown AW. The last title that will be released on MVS hardware will be Samurai Spirits Zero Special.
"SNK's Neo Geo titles are loved by game fans around the world," Sammy Marketing Division Manager Yoichi Watanabe said.
Watanabe said that he wants to include all game fans because the Atomiswave will succeed the market that the Neo Geo established. He added that besides Japan, Sammy will supply the games to global markets, such as Asia, Central and South America. SNK Development Director Kazuya Hirata said that he wanted KOF 2004 to be more mature, something that hasn't been realized on the Neo Geo. Hirated added that he wanted Metal Slug 6 to utilize Atomiswaves AW-NET network system. Finally he wanted Samurai Shodown AM to be all new and the character's appearance to be changed drastically.
