Kinda like the best DM Kill thread share the coolest, funniest stories you have from MMORPGs. I can only talk alot about Shadowbane since it was the only one I played a good amount of. I'll probably jump into DAoC untill Darkfall comes out (also looking at Lineage II and WoW of course). In anycase, share you stories. I'll tell some of mine in a few when I figure out how to not make them super long novels.
everquest steals peoples lives..........thats the only story i got.
We used to have guild meetings in SWG and there was a couple of real immature and younger players in the group. They would do real dumb stuff, on time these two guys in the middle of the meeting started talking about how they havn't seen each other in a long time (and nobody is supposed to talk) and then started dueling like the meetings wasn't even happening! I told them to get out (I was sort of a leader figure) but the meeting had already gone to hell much like the others before it because of more dumb stuff like this.
That's all I got for the time being, I'll think of some more later.

PC Accelerator was the greatest magazine ever.
My only story is a simple but touching one. It comes from the first couple weeks the Everquest servers were open to the public (somewhere in '99 i guess). It was my first experience in an MMORPG and I was running around gaining experience as best I could. Well, I didn't really know what the hell I was doing and was still extremely weak so it's not long before a bat(!) has me on the ropes. I'm desperately running away from it with a sliver of health when out of the trees sweeps in a hero to dispatch the flying rat and save my life.
"Thank you", I say.
"I didn't want him to kill you", says my gallant rescuer and then disappears back into the forest.
I never saw him/her again.
I stopped playing Everquest after only about 20 hours just because of how much time it demands, not because I didn't like it.
[edit]: Wow, I actually remembered my rescuer's name: Absinthe. And it was on the Solusek Ro server. Maybe we'll meet again... someday.

In Shadowbane, I made a name for myself by not doing what everyone else was doing. Healer/Casters, Mage Assassins, Rogue Buff Bards and Throwing/Shield Barbarians were basically 90% of the server. When people are free to do as they want they'll usually copy each other - so the saying goes. If you weren't one of those you were considered, by and large, to be a "gimp." I never, EVER played this type of character.
There were 3 main characters I had.
Arrold the Banker: Human Bard (Mage) - Bards are well liked because thier worth in large battles is great. They primarily buff whole groups with thier songs and often thier buffs cannot be duplicated by any other class.
Samoth / Malorne: Human Templar (Fighter) - Called a hybrid, Templars had neither the large amounts of HP that all other fighters had, nor the ranged magic that most healers and all mages had. Thier key powers, while ideally devastating, are complicated and they have so many skills that require training and so few points to attribute to those skills. Wolfpack/Ubi Soft saw fit to hamper some of thier powers to boot, making life for any Templar difficult - for many - impossible to play. There was a "You Know You're Gimped When.." thread at the SB boards. I think every other post in that thread was in ridicule of Templars (and occasionally Huntresses and Fighter Warlocks who shared the Templar plight). I had the most fun with these two characters.
Orta: An Elvish Fury (Mage) - Furies are considered a support class. They simply help better classes perform better it is said. They had many of the skills integral to other 'better' classes but lacked the means to use them adequately. So it was thought. Thier main use was as "fly-bots" as they are the only class that can grant flight to OTHER players. My first story is about the best Fury I made.
Furies can do a few cool things, like make whole groups fly over enemy walls, they can cast from a range and have a large series of debuffs and Damage Over Time spells (DOTs). The main problem with them is the "be quick, or be dead" complex. Furies are definitly not fast. They are slow moving and slow casting. 5 second cast time where most other have 4 - 2 second cast times. Also they have to cast debuffs first in order for them to be effective and lastly - they cast from 3 diffrent schools of magic whereas other casters (besides Wizards who also cast from 3 disciplines) have only one or 2 at the most to worry about. This equates to wasted training points, long cast times (up to 16 seconds before any serious damage can be done) not to mention it takes a long time for a Fury to even get into range to cast when others can engage and disengage at will. Where other copy-cat classes need only hit thier "nuke" button over and over again to kill someone a Fury needs to (in plain sight because they cannot stealth) stun, snare, debuff THREE times and then cast nukes (which are far less powerfull than most). You can't be sneaky, you're slow, you can't sence stealthers near you and you're a lightweight easy to kill mage who can't wear armor, use shields and can't melee to save your life. You're the games premier gank bait.
I made them nearly invinceable and was known for it.
If something is too difficult to do, most won't do it. This is good for me because it's the only element of suprise I can get. NO ONE EXPECTS THE FURY! Hah. I did have problems with stealthers, I did have problems going anything alone because try as I might, Furies just aren't a solo PK class. They rely on people who can detect stealthers at the very least and others who can give her a run buff (all Furies/Huntreses must be Female as all Warlocks, Dwarves, Half Giants and Minotars must be Male). Without getting into the grizzly details of stats and number likely to bore everyone I managed to make a fury with a natural respectable defence, high debuff powers and lots of MP to be able to continuously dish out weak hits. It takes a long time to kill meaty targets like Barbarians (so I usually found softer targtes) but no one, when fighting me, could hit me. One DOT I have also snares, and debuffs a targets attack rating (what determines your chances of hitting) by 50%. Follow that with a stun (9 second duration), then a Blind debuff (-50% defence + -50 attack rating) and a elemental debuff (-50% to Lightning, Fire and Ice). Then I'm free to wail away with very weak Lightning shots ad nauseum. The debuffs will last long enough for me to kill someone. All told, the opponet would be left with only 25% of his ATR, 50% of his defence, and little resistance to my elemental attacks while my crushing damage over time ticks off additional damage and snares them so they can't easily run away from me. -75% to ANY ATR possible within the game is still less than the 11oo DEF rating that my fury had - additionally, -50% to any DEF rating possible in the game is less than the 1400 ATR my Fury had (some considered my method for this an exploit). In a 1 on 1 situation I was pretty hard to stop. In large battles I did my backup role of flying allies quickly over enemy walls and putting snare/debuff/dot's on people and moving on to another combatant.
In one instance, my guild (The Blazing Inferno) was the 'last oppoisition' standing in the face of a weasely alliance of guilds bent on ruleing the server. Outnumbered greatly we resorted to guerilla tactics. We would focus ourselves to one city at a time. Busting shit up and burning shit down was our business and the guild "Marmot Marauders" were the main target of our destructive nature. One night (nighttime opperations) we attacked MM's capitol. There were about 10 of us and the city, manned by 50 or so guards as well as about 12 - 15 players at that time (reason why we fought late, to keep the numbers advantage down). We run up to the city and I fly all of our guys quickly over the walls and immediatle the guards are on us. Guards are easy to kill, but 50 of them can hurt. We fight our way through it, with me just dealing the 'disadvantage combo' to every enemy I saw. Debuff, Snare/DOT and move on to stun + snare/dot someone else. Eventually, haveing spent myself across many targets an assassin gets me and I respawn leauges away at my home city. We did well though, they killed everyone and were summoning fighters back to the city to hold it. I get back and find out that there's still some enemy summoners in the city - locked in the bank. They were busy summoning allies to thier aide. All you can do is wait. Eventually we see that they have summoned more than 100 allies to chase off the few of us. I'm not much capable of much myself at this point so I look around for some advantage. We know that they're coming out of the doors so I go to one of the empty guard barracks they have and find my way to the room with windows looking out to the bank. As kind of an exploit, I can still double click on the doors of the bank (still locked at this point) while being safely located in the guards barracks (they'll have to come in to get me). My guys were summoning as many as they could out in front of the bank. My purpose was greater though (no one knew where I was).
Time came and we reatched the breaking point - there was, appearantly, no more players that could be summoned to fight. Close to 150 enemies in the bank, and about 30 TBI and stragglers outside it - and me in the Barracks. I keep clicking on the doors waiting for them to unlock. My plan - to close them as soon as a few trail out thus keeping thier fighting numbers manageable. The plan - it worked. Not one of our 30 were lost and nearly all of those 150 were killed. Amidst the "WTFs" of the enemies and the "LOLs" of my friends the terrible alliance came out swinging... 2 guys at a time. They continued trying to muster a defence, this time from ouside the city but me and the other healer casters (and a Warlock) cruised out to bust up any summon chains they might be starting.
By sun-up - the city ("The Burrow") was burned save for it's tree. A bane circle was placed on the Tree of Life there and we all logged off. Job well done.

I've never subscribed to an MMORPG, though I do have Everquest lying around. Sharing an account with a friend and all that. Only level 3, and nothing interesting so far.
