I'll stick with my thread-inspiring choice: Questron, released by SSI (remember them?) back in 1982 or so.
This RPG had a great medieval setting, some of the first "3D" dungeons (that took a long time to get through), and monsters straight out of D & D (from what I recall, anyway). The graphics were comparable to Ultima III (but not quite as good).
The ending had to go on for 20 or 30 minutes. You, the hero, get paraded through the King's Court, with nice, 8- bit up-tempo marching music playing through your TV. The people are cheering (in their own way), then you're granted a public audience with the king who basically goes on and on about what a stud you are, thanking you profusely for saving everyone's ass. As I recall it, the game actually showed the King doling out gifts to you. But, it's still not over. He then makes you a Duke, or some such title, and the parading and public adulation begins again. Then (of course), his daughter (the Princess) professes her secret love for you and (YOU GUESSED IT), you get the girl!!
Basically, the ending of the game made you feel like a hero. I love that.
