Locking Your Keys in Your Car

So, I'm running late for class as it is and I pull into the Raritan Valley Community College parking lot when a young lady asks me if I had jumper cables and if so, if I could jump her car. Now, My car needs a jump all the time, I'm constantly having battery and alternator issues so I decided I'd help her out, even if I was then going to be super late for class. The cables were in my back seat of my car and I put the keys down on the passanger seat to get the cables. Then , for some reason (force of habbet I guess) I locked the car before closing the door to go talk to the young lady. Keys locked in the car.

Now, an embressing confession to the young lady and a few calls from a pay phone later (cell phone is also in my bag which is in the car) my friend is coming to pick me up and drive me home to my spare key. Bottom line? I feel like an idiot. Anyone else ever lock their keys in their car or something similar?

I don't lock myself out my car as much as I do out of my house. I've had to stop locking my bedroom window just in case.

Thats why I have a spare key in my wallet. That simple.

if you have one of the plastic topped keys, get one made that doesnt have any and is just flat metal, thats what I did for my Dodge.

If I ever lock myself out of my car I'll know I should just call it a day because I'm an idiot. For my next trick I'd probably get lost in my own house.

Yep, they may not start your car, since alot of keys now have an embeded RF ID tag the computer checks for before it lets the car start, but more than enough to open the doors..

My girlfriend has a spare set of my car keys just incase this happens... So far I've only done it once, and I just happened to be within a 15 minute walk of where she works. Yay.

Of course, if all else fails, my car is (unfortunately) ridiculously easy to break into.

I've got a really good “keys locked in car” story.

If you haven't picked up on it sense I've started posting here, my dad enjoys buying army surplus. During one summer he got about a forth of a military library along with some trailers from a military auction.

This was during one of hottest days during one of those really hot summers we had a few years ago. In Alabama no less.

We woke up early and drove all the way their from our home in Mississippi. Traffic had been bad so we didn't get there with the amount of time we thought we would have.

We knew we had to work fast because these particular government employees have a habit of telling you to go fuck yourself and leave for home when the clock hits five.

So we rushed and hurried as fast as we could get all of it loaded up in the van. It was almost unbearable, running back and forth on that asphalt, radiating the heat up at you, while caring a huge box of hardback books. It was like being in a huge oven.

If that wasn't bad enough my dad wanted to try and get those trailers to. We hooked them up with unsafe speed and drove with even more unsafe speeds to get them moved in time.

But after all our hard, hot, and fast work, we got done. The question was then what do we do with all the stuff? We had a Van full of books, a trailer we brought and two military trailers. You can only bring back so much of that.

The only thing we could think of was mini storage. We spent the rest of the day unloading those books into storage. Then we spent the evening manhandling those military trailers. All of this out in the hot Alabama sun, in the middle of one of the hottest summers ever. We had finally got done backing the last trailer into its spot and can you guess what my dad did when he went to unhitch the trailer? Yep, he locked his keys in the Van. We were dirty, nasty, tired, and other wise worn out, and we couldn't even enjoy being done because the keys were locked in the van.

There was no way to get a spare, as we were a LONG way from home.

We tinkered and we meddled and we did what we could to unlock the door the old fashion way, but to no avail. We finally broke down and called a lock smith.

:curse: The jack ass came and opened the door in 10 seconds.

We then went and got new clothes, as the ones we had on were about ruined from sweat, dirt, and a little blood.

We decided to not drive home that night as we were so tired. The drink I had that night, along with the sleep I got, was some of the best I had ever had in my entire life.

As horrid as that day was, I'm glad it happened. A lot of people live and die now with out knowing what serious hard work is. I'm glad I could have that experience and had it with my dad. I also got a hardback copy of the Power of Myth from that defunct library he got. That was pretty sweet in itself.

A friend of mine locked his keys in his car once. Kind of the opposite of IronPlant, though since it was winter time in Buffalo and he'd gotten in to start up the car and let it warm up while he scraped the ice and snow off of the windows.

He gets out of the car, and locked the door behind him. So his car is RUNNING while we sit around and wait for AAA to show up and jimmy his car open. Moron.
