Aw hell. Is Clear Channel reacting to the newly-empowered religious right (thanks to the breast of one Janet Jackson), or just taking advantage of the current political climate to get rid of Stern?

I didn't like him very much. But censoring racial or predjucial comments from the radio isn't a bad thing dude.

his show's always been like this. so what made yesterday's show any worse compared to the one before that? and the one before that one? if they're so worried about having acceptable programing, they should never have put the show on their stations in the first place.

He should switch to shoutcast so he can broadcast all the shit he wants (like ripping the FCC again).

Clear Channel's indecency policy is reacting to the FCC enforcing policies established way before Bush or "the right" took over. The reaction to The Unveiling of Teh Sagging Boobie is not a force of conservatives or liberals, but of typical politically-moderate people who didn't like that sort of content displayed during Family TV Time.

This reaction has prompted the FCC to get serious about its regulations and actually enforce them. They levied fines against CBS for that incident, in addition to considering revoking their broadcast license. More recently, they levied a $1 million fine against Clear Channel for the antics of another shock-jock ("Bubba the Love Sponge" from a station in Tampa Bay), who they immediately fired.

The danger of being hit with bigger fines and a possible license revokation is not something Clear Channel wants to deal with, thus the indecency standards. The FCC has succeeded in getting the message across that this sort of behavior is not welcome on the airwaves, so station owners are acting accordingly.

Stern sucks anyway, good riddance.
