It was about due, Volume 2 came out last summer. Usually I say it's about 6 months, correct?
Pretty much adds up.
Tranformers Season 3 Part 2 comes out on the same day.
why do they separate those transformers seasons into parts (and the parts are hella expensive). was it not possible to just simply release them one season at a time?
They get more money.Quote:

Anyway, Futurama Volume 3 coming out next Tuesday or whenever is the great news I'd heard. I can't wait... Oh wait, I mean tomorrow I guess. Go Tuesday! This will be mine on Friday when I get paid.
About 24 eps per DVD. That's a fair price to pay.Quote:

I think BB has Futrama on sale this week. I'm gonna hit that deal up tomorrow.
Am I stupid to think I'll wait for all the Futurama seasons to be released, and then buy a complete box set?
Like, is it likely that they'll only be available by season, and perhaps out of print by the time I'm looking to buy?
It's entirely possible, but I doubt it. I think they sell pretty well.
Season 3 is my favorite. It has most of the classics.
oh, and season 4 is out here, and all of the other season boxsets have dropped to the price of a standard DVD.
OMFGAMERICA=PWNED!
how many volumes will be realeased of futurama? 5?

The only way I'd buy these and the Family Guy sets are if
a) the price on them drops drastically to about 20-25 dollars or
b) for some reason, Cartoon Network stops showing the eps Monday-Friday at both 11 and 2, meaning I'll be able to catch it at least once during the night.
And about the Transformers box set, the first one was all of Season 1 and retailed for around 70 bucks if I remember correctly. But splitting the future seasons into two parts, releasing them at 35 a piece and spacing them out 4-6 months, sales picked up big time, because it kept the releases fresh as well.

There were only four production seasons of Futurama, so there will be four seasons on DVD. They were shown over a span of five years because it was preempted by football half the time, hence the confusion.
Can't wait to get this.
I'd gladly pay that here, regardless of the fact it's shown on tv 4 nights a week.Quote:

There were only, officially, 4 seasons of Futurama. Unofficially there were five, due to Fox pre-empting their show so often. But the actual production of the episodes were made 1 through 4.
A good example is that season 1 got preempted so much that the Slurm Episode, which was supposed to be the final episode of Season 1 didn't air well in to the next year. Fox just gave them a horrible timeslot and effectively killed the show.
When you see good shows get cancelled so easily by Fox, though, you can tell Futurama is one of the lucky ones on the network.
At best buy they want $40 for season 3 (i'm going to wait till I get paid again to pick it up) but if you buy season 3 and 1 or 2, they knock off 10 bucks, and if you buy all three, 20 bucks off.
Errr... I just got back from Best Buy and Season 3 is on sale for $29.99 this week.
oh snap.
why the hell did it say 40 then. damn it. Didn't say it was on sale anywhere, just if you buy it with the other seasons.
It's $47.99 here in Canada.
Now that I know the Canadian price I can...go to canada and pay more? or less? I don't know how the US dollar to maple syrup exchange works.
Yep, got mine on sale for $40 at FYI.
The sticker on the front said $40... and right under it was a sign that said Futurama Season 3 on sale for $29.99. :pQuote:

Damn...only 4 volumes... I'm so into the show that I don't want it to end. =\ Fuck fox.
there's always the comic books.
From what I hear they're terrible.
I plan on getting vol. 3 an 2 from Best Buy this weekend for $60 total.
Oh, man, watch the episode "The Birdbots of Ice-catraz" with the commentary. Billy West spend the whole episode in character as Zoidberg, praising the performance of the on-screen Zoidberg. Absolutely priceless.
Season 3 might be the best season. A lot of my favorite eps are in this set.
I personally enjoy the first four episodes the most. But I haven't seen most of the fourth season because of the time it was on.
So is there any hope of Groening making more Futurama episodes - like if the show was sold to Cartoon network or something like that? Fuck Fox, they ruined one of the greats. I hear they purposfully moved Futurama around to produce low ratings so they could justify canceling it to Groening, b/c they wanted his priority to be the Simpsons, and he was more into Futurama - argh.
*I was never much of a Simpsons fan*
I doubt Groening even cares, he's already made enough money (and is STILL making money) that he dosen't really need to bring back series like that.Quote:

I doubt Groening cares that much, he's already riding the Simpson wave for the rest of his life.
I think the whole deal with producing more episodes was that Fox is unwilling to let go of the rights to CN or whomever. Bastards.
Groening had a strong sentimental attachment to futurama, so given the chance to do it again, I think he would. I don't see it happening though, it was an expensive show to make.
Indeed. I'm watching it right now. Great stuff!Quote:

And if IIRC, Gorening doesn't do much for Simpsons anymore. He certainly doesn't write episodes, and there is an army of show producers and shit watching over it. As far as MG is concerned, that show is on auto pilot.
Seth McFarlane (Family Guy) is in the same position. His show was cancelled and now he's amazingly getting another chance (unlike Groening). It's not so much that he wants the money, but he cares enough for his creation that putting in the effort to get it going again is worth it to him.
Was Groening even directly involved with The Critic? I thought it was from the 2 other producers of The Simpsons (and Mission Hill). Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein. I think that's their name.
Has there been any word if Coen and Groening are developing another show? That would be pretty damn cool.
I liked the commentary before that when a bunch of them started singing "Nobody Cares!" I was laughing my ass off at that.Quote:

Mission Hill (by Oakley and Weinstein, who did the voices for Kevin's friends) was a great show. I'd love to see it out on DVD. Got Volume 3 of Futurama yesterday at Best Buy for $25 thanks to getting some reward zone money in the mail right before leaving to go to BB. Almost done with disc 2 (commentary tracks only.) Fantastic set, and I love the new slim cases, as the discs are easier to take out of them than in Vol. 1. Didn't get Vol. 2 yesterday due to BB being out of it.
Isn't the box set for 1 the same as 3? I havn't opened it in awhile, but the discs were in seperate plastic cases (just like 3).
Jeremy, how much money do you spend at BB? Seems like every other post you say you get $5 off from the rewards program. I've only gotten 1 coupon so far. Is it 1 point = $1 spent?
The cases themselves are the same, barring the little doodad in the center to actually remove the discs. In Vol. 1, it's a single nub thing, and in Vol. 3, it's a series of those little things you can push down to remove the disc. And I forget how the reward zone points work, I just end up taking advantage of the double points deals.
I just checked online and it's 100 points to a dollar (6 to 8 weeks to get the coupon though, christ). I'm pretty sure I just passed my reward amount to get another coupon en route. And I've never seen double point deals.

I don't think Futurama's numbers are quite so high. Futurama was the show Groening wanted to make all of these years, he's still trying to keep it alive in the form of a movie and he also launched a series of comic books. So his interest is still there.
What somebody said above about Fox wanting his attention to be on the Simpsons is probably true. We all know the last 4 - 5 seasons of the Simpsons have been downright awful. Man it sucks, but atleast Family Guy is coming back.
actually, the last few new simpsons eps i've seen have been great, though on the whole, you're right.
This season is easily the best out of the past four or five so far. Lots of touching moments in it, with less emphasis on comedy.
how could that be good? i'm honestly asking - i mean stuff like that is ok when dabbed upon - but the basis of the show should be steeped in comedy.
its gone back to a blend of drama and comedy like the older seasons, like 4 and 5.
New high for the commentary on the Pharoh episode. Billy West does Fry the whole episode and John Dimaggio does Bender the whole time... fucking hilarious.
cool. Billy West doing Zoidberg was still awesome though:
"There I am, in the corner!"
Yeah, but when he does Fry the whole time he complains about how crappy his acting is. :)
Station, I love it when the show does dramatic stuff, and it got really horrid once they made everything into a punchline. These commentaries for Vol. 3 have been great, only two more to go. The one for the second (gaming) part of the second athology of interest was fantastic.
This whole DVD set is fantastic.
I was just coming to let you guys know this! This boxed Set of one of the best yet! It's like getting a 2nd showing for each episode with the humor they pack into the audio commentary. :)Quote:

Ah, another fine season added to my collection. Zoidberg steals the show in every scene he is in.
In case any of you guys missed it, there is a second audio commentary for "Roswell that Ends Well" with just the animators. It's not as fun as the Billy West and Di Maggio, but much more informative if you are interested in the animation process.
The sad thing about the audio commentary is that most of it was recorded before the show was cancelled (recorded summer of 2002), I wonder if the commentary would have changed much if they had recorded it more recently?
Wait, is the Anthology of Interest Vol 2 on here? I can't remember if that was season 3 or 4.
The DVD volumes don't correspond with the aired seasons, they're going by the production order.
So is it on the DVD or not?
Yes it is.
I haven't watched it in a while, but I emember really liking one of the commentaries with Tress Macneille (Hmmm, I think it was the day the earth stood stoopid). I swear that chicks on coke or something.
I can't wait for the 5th Season so I can have the super-hero episode with the theme to Capt. Yesterday. BBUUUUUTTTTT I think this, the Critic, and Transformers Season 3/4 will keep me busy for a while :)
There is no 5th season.
There was a fifth season aired, but only four seasons of episodes produced.
How many damn times is that going to be said? One person asks, then 3 people answer it.
The Day the Earth Stood Stupid is my favorite.
"..and now I will leave Earth for no raison"
Thats probably the best Futurama site I've come across.
Cool, I love the sound of those new animated menus, the Vol. 3 ones are awesome.

Are you sure? When did the ax officially drop? I listened to the commentary for the "awesome express" and "the day the earth stood stupid" today and it sounds like they already knew the show was cancelled (they refer to the date they recorded the commentary).Quote:

it'll probably be in August or September.
There was a 5th season that was aired, but really they only made 4 seasons.
I really enjoyed the commentaries on this DVD.
Zoidberg imposing on the Wongs was hysterical.
Mrs. Wong: "Make yourselves at home."
Dr. Zoidberg: "Don't mind if I already did." (walks down the stairs in a bath robe)
or when they're outside and he's in one of the buggalo shells. He waves to them friendily and shouts: "I broke the television!"
zoidberg is great throughout - there was only one time when i found myself suprisingly annoyed at him, in "Godfellas" where the professor says he can't detect Bender through the smell-o-scope due to local interference and they all look at Zoidberg who exclaims "Yea! People are paying attention to me!"
I wanted to pull a Hermes and yell "Get out of here you filthy crab!"
He always says that.
I bought season 4 today.
HAHAHA LOSER AMERICAN YANKEE DOODLE DORKS OF A PIG!
You should have bought it when it came out 4 months ago.
Just saw the easter eggs on Vol. 3, hilarious stuff. The table read for the X-Mas ep is fascinating, and the unused captions are neat. David Cohen's Christmas message to Fox is hilarious too.
How do I get to these easter eggs?
I would also like to know this.
I found one. The movie poster for that ameba movie on the second disc.
For one of the easter eggs, the one with the alternate captions that were never used for the show, go to the Amazon Women in the Mood, and press either left or right until a yellow border surrounds the screen cap of the episode in the center of the screen.
For another, do the same thing until a candy stripe border comes across the screen cap in the X-Mas show. I think this is the one that brings up the table read.
For the third one, do this, and press up until you see a santa hat in the top-right corner of the screen. This is the one that brings up the David Cohen one.
whoa thanks for those
No problem, www.gotfuturama.com listed them, and I tried them out on the DVD player in my room, which uses a crummy universal remote. I didn't get the exact combo they listed for button presses, but I got a general idea of what to expect to do, and that worked out well.
man, you should hear the audio commentaries on season 4. These were made after fox cancelled it and cartoon network had picked it up. I've only watched 2 commentaries so far (I've only seen a few of the eps), but from what I heard they slam the shit out of fox  .
The show was cancelled before the 3rd seasons commentaries too. They were done in Summer 2002, and the show was cancelled in like May of 2002. The professor says something like: "There's always next year." to Fry or one of the gang, and Groening laughs while saying: "No there won't Professor."
On 30% Chef they mention the cancelation too (one or two of the eps on that disc).
Snoo Snoo?
One of my favorites. "Please, we need rest. The mind is willing, but the body is squishy and tender."Quote:

I think the line is "but the flesh is spongy and bruised." That episode is what of my faves of the season, mainly due to the great lines and animations thoughout it, like "you win again, GRAVITY!", and my favorite bit of animation is the part at the end with Zap and Fry with casts on their pelvises. The smoking nipples in the mountain were a stroke of genius.
"what are you, gay?"
Season 4 isn't as good as season 3, though there are a few fucking awesome ones, like the one where fry's nose gets abducted, and the one where Robot Devil (BEST CHARAVCTER EVER MIND YOU) swaps hands with Fry. Maurice Lamarge (sp? voice of Lurr, Morbo, Tales of Interest narrator, etc) stars in every commentary, even the ones where he doesn't appear in the episode, and is fucking funny. There aren't enough with both John Dimaggio and Billy West though, and I don't think Tress Macneille is on any of them either.
Maurice LaMarche, or La Marche, it's been spelled both ways, was funny on the Vol. 3 ones, can't wait to hear him on the Vol. 4 stuff.
I love the Buggalo Roam episode with Zapp spewing out jokes nine year olds would use.
"I didn't realize you were going to bring your girlfriend, Kiff." (childish teasing giggle)
"Ugh. She's Amy's and won't stop following."
"Did I say girlfriend? Sounds more like a wife!"
*tumble weed rolls by*
That's awesome.
haha, yeah, thats an awesome episode.
Lee Wong: make yourself at home
Zoidburg: Don't mind if I already did!
Speaking of Zoidburg, he is the fucking king in "Spanish Fry". They go camping, and Bender decides to stay outside.
Zoidburg: Well if you get cold or lonely, you could come in my tent with me and Hermes and get in on some "just friends" spooning action.
My love of futurama has been brought back to life. Expect awesome av and sig changes soon.
I'll be changing mine from Shiggy to a different shot of Fry with an Afro, just to avoid confusion...
I don't care now. I have Jesus Zoidberg in mine. It was just annoying when I actually had a Fry avatar. What are we, married? Fuck no.
dude - that sig is awesome, when i first saw that episode, the cat shelter bit had me rolling for a hella long time. :)
Yeah it's awesome. I didn't initially hear what bender said so I rewinded and played it again. It got a laugh out of me. The Cyber House Rules is another great episode. I never have buyers remorse when I buy the sets because you get more then your money's worth.
Same with the Simpsons ones. They're great. A little more stale because they're on TV 24 hours a day... but still great.
