NARC

I was largely interested in this because of the name, thought the NES game was, to me, hilarious, but I read more about it in this months EGM and I think it might actually turn out to be pretty good. Yes it's coming off to be a GTA clone, but at least it seems like a good one as opposed to True Crime. Then again, it's being put out by Midway so I have my doubts and rightfully so.

If anyone else has more info on it, I'd like to know. Maybe some of them GameSpy / EGM folk around here can tip me off. Good, bad or just so-so.

No, whole new game. It's 3D and, according to EGM at least, is a GTA3 clone of sorts. Instead of a criminal you're Narcotics Officer. Be as good as bad as you like. I imagine the bulk of things to do will be in the 'bad' category.

Hmm that sounds pretty good.

I was interested in this one until Gamespy did the feature on how you can power-up your character by doing drugs, thus glamorizing the whole thing. It's not like I have some moral opposition against this (Well, I do but not in the way, say a Joe Liberman would. I think it's bad but hey, so is Manhunt), but it's definetly one of those things I would rather see Midway avoid to NOT give a worse name to video games as is.

So at this point, I'm more excited about NARC being on the next Midway Treasures.

Bah! Not only it looked like crap, it was being made by the same no-talent hacks that created State of Emergency.

I am so buying this. It looks really stupid but very fun.

Which would be just like the original. Stupid + Fun.

Though using Drugs as a power-up does kill a lot of it for me. It's not a hardliner stance by me, but the fact that the original game was so 1980's "Say No To Drugs!" like.. it really clashes.

Apparently the drugs have negative side effects, so they aren't completely glamorized.

Even so, it really goes against the spirit of the original game. The first one made all drug dealers and users to be the lowest of the low. It had people throwing syringes at you!
